Is anybody making their own? They are all so bloody expensive to hire and I don't want big massive things really as at previous weddings it makes it difficult to see the people opposite.

I would use candles but my venue won't allow candles or lillies. My theme is black and white so want to keep it to them colours.

Any ideas girls? Need some inspiration and I am the least artisitic person ever so need something simple.

You can get electric candles that look nice, especially in mercury glass tea light holders as you can't tell the difference.

Do you use Pinterest? I have got almost all of my ideas from there.

Also why doesn't your venue allow lilies?!

Few random ideas...

Have retro games in the centre for people to play. Anything from a gorgeous antique chess board to something like Scrabble to Operation! You could put a couple of jars of retro sweets on them too, for the winners.

Have your favourite childhood books (old editions) stacked, perhaps with one or two open at a lovely illustration (Winnie the Pooh, Beatrix Potter & Roald Dahl books would work well). You you put baby's breath on top/next to it to decorate. Old editions of books you like as an adult work well too.

Old family photos in antique frames in clusters, maybe with some fake tea lights in holders like this too https://www.nkuku.com/Item/House_-A..._Candle_Holders/TT28/Tiwi_T-Light_Holder.html

This sounds weird, but a crate of retro drinks, like 50s style glass coke bottles. You could have them empty filled with flowers, or full, in which case they could double as favours.

Have your favours in the centre, stacked up, with a couple of flowers to decorate. Another idea is to make flower wreaths as favours, and bundle them up in the middle, maybe on a large silver platter.

Flowers don't have to take over the tables, you can get bud vases and put tiny flowers in them and they look just as nice. Another thing you can do is to just lay single stems out flat. That can look lovely and relaxed. Or cut the heads off of flowers and place them on a vintage plate/silver platter.

Have food! Cupcakes on a pretty plate, biscuits, sweets. Anything can look amazing if you present it right!

You could also have games for guests, like the one where you stick a name on your forehead without seeing it and have to guess what it is, or games about the bride and groom like quizzes on their pasts. Sounds a bit random but present it in a gorgeous box tied with ribbon and with some baby's breath next to it and it could look amazing!

I hope something there is helpful!

Also you could have a cluster of string lights in the centre. Here are some gorgeous ones:

Or birdcages filled with flowers, or something like this (with a fake candle) that spells you and your OH's initials:https://www.notonthehighstreet.com/theletteroom/product/paper-bag-alphabet-lanterns

I'm really sorry I keep spamming your thread but I have another idea! Get vintage postcards from places of importance to you and your OH (childhood home, favourite holidays, places you were born, where you met etc etc) and write notes on the back and put them in place card holders in clusters in the middle of the tables. Also works with funny childhood photos (you could write facts about the time it was taken on the back).

Haha thanks for all the ideas, I have got over 11 months to decide and think of something, I really love the big tall vases with the ostrich feathers but the cheapest I have seen in £40 each just to hire!!!

Emma, not sure about the reason with the lillies

Emy you are amazing lol! I now want to use some of those ideas haha! xxx

I should point out that I'm making my own lol and I can sell them afterwards :) think teacups, teapots, books, flowers, sweets. a proper mish mash! I've just gotten a big box of teapots in the post lol xxx
