Tattoos, for losers?

I have 6,all meaningfull tattoos that actually represent something...and im no criminal/chav/disadvantaged etc :/

I dont think it was a good idea posting this thread tbh  you were obviously wanting a rise out of people or why else would you disrespect others like you have?

Im sorry but your mums view is disgusting.. I have 8 tattoos and I want more. Im not a criminal and im certainly no chav.....
What a view to have! Your mum sounds lovely..

I have a friend who has a few on her, she says she can't get enough lol.

I have a star on my foot which was supposed to be 3 stars brightly coloured. I managed one star and not even coloured in. It was painful but I am determind to have it finished.. Lol.
I dont care what people say about my tattoos. 3 out of 8 of my tattoos mean absolutely nothing  the other 5 are my girls names, me and my best friend had a friendship tattoo, me and oh had a heart and forever, and one on my bottom back is a heart and scroll with my doggys name in it. I loved her very much!

Wow, some people are taking this really seriously. I didn't mean this thread to cause any offence.

Read what you wrote and then tell me you didnt mean any offence.. :dohh: Your mum has a rather distasteful view to people who have tattoos..

I am a mother of two children, I work, I come from parents who own houses in other countries and have worked hard all their lives to have what they have both have good jobs..

My dad has four tattoos, my sister has 9, my brother has 3 and I have 8.. We are all just a bunch of low life criminals.... :dohh::dohh::dohh: My mum clearly is the only one out of all 5 of us that isnt a crim!

If you didnt want to cause 'offence' maybe your common sense should have kicked in before you hit post...

Wow, this is a massive prejudice, really uneducated and close-minded view! I haven't read though all the posts, but I have to say, I find that point of view quite offensive. "Not liking tattoos" is one thing (and totally fair enough, not everyone is the same), but making judgements about someone's personality/social background and likelihood to commit crime is totally out of order!

I have a half sleeve on my left arm, I have two tattoos around my right wrist and two around my left, after I've had this baby I will be having my sleeve on my right arm done. I'm a mostly trained body piercer and worked part-time in a tattoo studio for a fair amount of time, so I saw people from all walks of life coming for tattoos.

Myself, with my above-average coverage (for a girl) and facial piercings...well, I have a good degree in English, Drama and Education from a very well-respected red brick university, I'll be finishing off my qualifications to teach English and Drama to teenagers next year, I plan to continue my education, get my doctorate and eventually lecture in a university...and I have no criminal record.

To the OP; there really doesn't seem to have been much point in posting this to be honest, it was always going to cause offence to lump a group of people together and accuse them of being chavs and criminals based on their physical appearance.

Moved to news and debates, I think this is the best place for the discussion.

My mum had a rant the other day that tattoos are for losers, criminals, bogans, chavs etc....

she kept raving, bringing up examples of tatttood people and their crime.

She also says that tattooed people tend to be lower class/working class.

OK, I have to gree with her slightly, it does tend to be the way, most guys I know with tattoos are indeed from a low socio-economic/disadvantaged background.

What is you personal experience?

My personal experience is..

I am a qualified specialist scientist in histopathology and immunohistochemistry, I have both a BSc degree and an MSc degree. I was accepted on a PhD place last year but decided against it due to the high costs of it.

I also have 8 tattoos, and about 5 piercings.

I have never been to jail but was arrested when I was 15 for breaking a window (by accident). 27 years ago btw!

I am not lower in a socio-economic class either, in fact holding a professional qualification and registration sticks me up near the top of the table somewhere.

Now I'm off to read the rest of the thread..

I think it's a generational thing. I think my mum would be afraid of guys with tattoos or piercings. But then she passed a group of my friends when i was a teenager and told me to steer clear as they looked dangerous.

All aboard the loser train, choooooochooooo!

I love my tattoos, they mean a lot to me and I am definitely NOT a chav. My dad's family are working class, my mum's are middle class. I'm proud of my background and am more worried about the insinuation that working class and tradespeople are scum (all of the men in my family are plumbers and i'm thinking of retraining as one!)

Im on

Look at David Beckham, is he trash?

DB isn't a great example to use, he may not be trash but he hasn't exactly been hit with the brainy stick!

Anyway, I don't think tattoos have any direct relation to any aspect of someones personality, intelligence or social background. However, contrary to most people I always look at a tattoo and think  To me, they are disgusting, regardless of whether they are well done or not.

I might have this as a tattoo!

Wow what an opinion to have!

I have only 1 tattoo at the moment but am planning 2 more. My mum who is 66 got her 1st tattoo this year & has since had another 1 done, Now we are far from being chavs.

To live a life judging people on the way they look is a very poor existance! Some of the nicest and cleverest people i have met have been covered in tattoo's & piercings.

Seriously? I think your mum is very narrowminded and is talking complete bullshit. And if you agree with her, i'd have to class you the same seeing as you seem to think everyone with tats are low lifes.
How wrong could you be  I have a tattoo, one on each hip. And I plan a hell of a lot more in the near future. I live on a private estate and my OH is a consultant... NEVER judge a book by its cover.

Before I met my OH's rather posh and well to do family he told them I was full of tattoos and piercings...they were probably locking away the silver before I came round to the house. I turned up in a pink blouse and trousers, and they couldnt tell I had anything inky or metal on me.

And he told them I was a single mum with a 10 yr old son, and they were mortified of wtf their posh son had picked up! Then she had my boy one evening and couldn't bloody praise him enough the next day at how delightful and polite he is.

Amazing how people can change their opinion when they get their noses out of the Daily Fail and take a look at the real world now and again! ;) x

Honestly this is ridiculous. Having a tattoo does not make you a bad person. It is a personal choice thing. How many other people does your Mum have a problem with? Does she feel the same way about those who are overweight? Have unusual hairstyles? Where does this type of stereotyping end?

And also, as someone else said, what is the issue with people being working class or tradespeople? People are people. Judge them by how they are to you, not how they look.

Just want to add that I am not a tattoo fan and don't have any (neither does DH) but don't see the issue with other people doing what they want with their body.

Most of the people I know that around the same age as me (including myself and OH) are tattooed. That includes a solicitor, policeman, hairdresser, business owner, shop worker, engineer, joiner, driver, teacher, gravedigger, secretary, labourer, beautician and a dole bladger - so no pattern to social or economic status at all.

Of course all people who have tattoos are criminals from lower class backgrounds... just as all blondes are thick, all muslims are terrorists and all women are bad drivers.

It's called stereotyping, and it's ridiculous!

I think it's a ridiculous thing to say! My dad is covered in tattoos on his arms but he's worked every day since I've been born I think. Silly view to have xx
