Right just wondering for those who are willing to share info? PM if you'd rather...?:flower:

Joint Claimants only (as this is our situation)

What is your joint income?
What WTC credit do you get?
What CTC do you get?

Do you pay childcare, how much, and what childcare element amount do you get?

Reason asking I'm now back to work, but don't get the WTC, don't get childcare element help and £20 a week CTC. Joint income is 49k. BUT...a past parent of nursery told me her and partner earn practically what we do but get 80% paid? Before I ring up and question I just want to get an idea.

Don't mind if I'm not entitled as my letter says, but if someone earning same jointly gets 80% paid, how come??
:coffee:

our annual inco (well hubbys as im a sahm) is 24000-25000 approx give or take here or there.
we dont get wtc but do get ctc which is £38 every 4 weeks.
we also get £80 every 4weeks cb. I know that might not be much help as I don't workbut you could go online to entitled to i think its called and that will give you a rough estimate If u are or not entitled. :) I can't see y this woman is entitled if u are not either uv been told wrong or maybe she's made a mistake with how much she earning when telling you or something. Xx

We have a joint income of 48k at the moment, we dont recieve any WTC, childcare element or CTC....

When I go back to work after maternity leave and will have 2 children to pay childcare for, they told us we still wont be entitled to anything....

I dont understand the system

yea rach you seem to be same as us, but we get 20quid child tax credit atm. makes me wonder what this woman was on though, to get her 80%...she stated hubby 30ish and her like 18 im sure....

li, income is before tax afaik. we certainly dont get 49k after tax

it's all done on pre tax ie gross income
xxx

Sorry but 48k is a reallllly good wage so I'm quite glad people in that situation don't get anything cept CB. Theres only a certain amount of £ available and if people who earn 50k a year get money it means that people who are only on 10k a year get less

Anyway, me and OH have about a 22k joint income for last year and get £417 WTC every 4 weeks. Amelies nursery is £467 so I guess we get the full 80% paid for.

That was a bit offish. I didn't say I WANTED MORE MONEY NOW. i realise we have good wage. but im questioning other people's amounts as the lady i spoke to on same, had her 80% paid.

To be fair if they're earning 49k and getting 80% paid they're probably fiddling the system somewhere along the line.

Oops, sorry :flower:

She's lying to someone anyway. Either the benefit people, or you.

omg on paper we have less then that for last year and i get £2.55 a week in wtc!!!!! can i ask do you also get ctc? im shocked at the differences in peoples wtc & ctc for earning similar amounts :(

they don't take into account cost of living though. Someone who earns 22k and still lives at home gtetting their bills paid would get the same as someone who pays all their bills. Ive never once been asked about my living situation

Plus nursery is ridiculous. We pay £860 a month for Seth and we earn £2k per month between us. Then theres 650 rent (which is standard in this area for rented house), we arent entitled to a council house because we earn too much. They don't take into account if you OWN a house, but they do ask about your savings. We don't own a house but I have some money in savings for a deposit.

I personally think they should take each persons circumstances into account and work it out based like that. It does my head in that we're working so hard, missing out on our sons life and getting pennies, and then barely being able to survive (now is ok, in april I dont know what we're going to do quite frankly, our income wont cover our basic outgoings).

Do you have child care to pay for? Thats the only reason I get so much. I don't get any Child tax credit. The only benefit I get is that 417 WTC.

I know, it's hard, especially with child care costs :( I don't know why owning a house is relevant though?

I hate how you can get money for towards rent but not to pay your mortgage

Because surely the amount of equity you have in your house is equivalent to savings... we have some savings but no assets... generally you have to be in a better position to buy a house. We looked at £150k house (5 x mortgaes) and you need £20k deposit!! x

ah right so thats the childcare bit then? no i dont pay childcare atm as i am off but not planning to go back full time as we never got childcare paid before, in fact i have only started getting the wtc since Lana was born

while i was on maternity allowance and oh was working full time earning £13,500 we recieved £93 per week ctc&wtc.. (luisa was under1)

now i have gone back to work and oh is part time they have adjusted our income to refelct tht jointly we will earn approx £17,500 we are now recieving £145 per week but this includes childcare costs of £600pcm.. (think we get the 80%) we should be getting more about £180 per week but as we were paid highly at the beggining of the tax yr its pro rated back if tht makes sense!

from april it says we will get about £160 per week as although luisa will be over 1 we wont be paying some back if tht makes sense!

so basically ours covers our child care!

That seems to be the norm  We get most of our childcare paid for so we can go out to work but none of the money goes in our pockets. We still need to pay something towards the nursery from our wage too.

Linzi im with you on that one. our mortgage takes over half wage. 49k looks awesome, but mortgage price isnt lol!

Thanks for replies girlies.

The problem for me is that although OH and I jointly earn about 45k If i was to go back to work all the nuserys around here will take up nearly all my wages. So it works out better for me to work part time, surely the systems there to help people go back to work, better for the economy and all that! x
