I dont think there is a group like this and was wondering how many teachers are members of BNB, thought we could exchange ideas, problems in the classroom etc.
Ill start....
I am an English as a foreign language teacher. I actually have a BA in early childhood education and informal education. After getting a uni degree where I live ( Israel) you are required to get a teaching certificate in your field. I chose not to carry on in my field and rather get a teaching certificate in English, because its my first language, and I thought it would be a better job for me. So I have been doing that the last two years. I only have 3 courses to go ( having LO I spread it out a bit) and next school year ie : september I need to do 4 hours of prac teaching a week. I have already taught in schools as a student so they are allowing me to just take a job and my prac teaching can be included in that. great coz I get paid for it!!
so anyway my dilemma was I got two job offers one: teaching 7th, 10, 11th grade, 38 kids in a class. I like the sound of the job because I have not taught high school before but its a lot of pressure as in 11th grade you are preparing them for final examinations. 3 different grades so 3 different lessons to prepare a week. Plus all the grading (marking) for 38 kids a class!
so I turned it down. I just felt for my first year.. too much.
The second job I am interviewing for this week. Its to teach 5 8th grade classes that are non-readers. Ie: these kids fell through the cracks. They have been learning English since 3rd or 4th grade and have got to 8th and can barely read. They are taken out of the regular classroom. Seems like a challenge. I know its gonna be hard because they are probablly pretty fed up these kids and I cant imagine they like English very much.
Well I'll stop here incase I end up in this group alone there is no point in talking to myself
hope people join
