I searched for my boss ages ago to see if he had it, which he did, I then made sure I told him randomly 'I never really use facebook' so he'd get the hint..

Yes it loses a lot of appeal when family or (some) colleagues find you

You can always setup user groups and have different privacy setings for your statuses, so you can friend but still keep a measure of privacy?
