The Open University and Distance Learning thread

:hugs: I hope her transition to school goes well :hugs:

I'm starting an open degree, I start AA100 - The arts past and present in October :flower: what course are you going to do?

Oh, me too. Only for an English Language and Literature degree

Aw, I hope starting school goes gently :flow:

I'm hoping to complete Bsc (Hons) Open after October's exams. Done mostly environmental science with some other sciences, plus some random counselling/psychology thrown in. It's been very rewarding if frustrating at times lol.

It's obvs ace being able to work when u can, but motivation can sometimes be hard no matter how engaging the coursework is...
Xxx

Hey everyone :waves: I'm starting in October too, doing a Psychology degree. I can't wait. It'll be the first time in four years that I actually have time to have a pee  since Tegan is starting school fulltime in September (well 10-2.30)

Hi everyone,

I'm starting in October too, studying childhood and youth studies. Doing a 60 credit module in health and social care in my first year, didn't want to over commit.

Does anyone have any idea about funding through OU? I know I have to apply for a part time student loan but wondering if there is any other help available too?

Hiya Tegans mama and Laura :)

Sorry I don't know how the new funding works but some others on here might know. Also if you ring or email the ou themselves (number/email is on their site, sorry can't link as on my phone :flower:) they have always been good when I've needed to get in touch x

I want to know this also, I might email them in a minute. They used to do a computer grant, but there's no info about it on the website anymore

Hi everyone. Im in Canada but I am doing the same thing but in college i think its the same as your university. But I am study for Medical front office assistant and medical transcriber. Its all online and right now I am in 5 classes. I take medical billing, medical transcribing 1, excel specialist (just learning the program), business communications and medical termanolgy. Its a lot of work but I think I am doing pretty good so far. And as long as i dont fail anything ill be done both courses may next yr :happydance:

They got rid of the computer grant last year, just before i started :/ i was not impressed lol, i got the course grant though, which i think was 250 so i just put that towards a computer.

I emailed them & they replied - there are no equipment grants available to residents of England.

Hey ladies, mind if I join? I start in October doing a criminology and psychological studies :) Need to pick my modules and get my funding sorted but will do that over the weekend.

Does the motivation to do it come easily? I'm so looking forward to my brain being used again and I LOVE studying (weirdo) but I'm just worried incase I lack motivation because there's ALWAYS something else I could be doing, suppose like anything nowadays!

Really cannot wait to start though! My brains begging for information that doesn't come off reading nappy packs and baby books!

Hi
Of course you can join :)

Motivation is hard, but it you are interested in the subject then it's fine hun :)

xx

Got 72 in my last two assignments, yay! Really need to motivate myself for the next one, I am doing the bare minimum work at the moment and writing my essays in a mad rush just before the hand in date, I could probably be getting firsts if I actually put in effort. I am so excited for my actual psychology module to start, I find this social sciences module quite dull and tedious.

That's ace hun, just think, if you're getting 70+% on the stuff you're not even enjoying, you'll ace the psychology!

xx

Thats ace :) is it level one ? i felt like this with the module i just did, i was just writing them at the last minute :/ i didn't even read the last two course books, i literally skimmed thro them for quotes :/ it was soooooo boring, interdisciplinary modules are the worst, hopefully when i start solid history in october/september it will be much more interesting :)
