To drink or not to drink?

I can't see why you'd ever want to take the risk? For what benefit? Just drink some fruity drink in a cocktail glass instead! It's only 9 months! Enjoy it!

Alcohol can hardly be compared to tuna fish or breathing in pollution? pollution to a degree is unaviodable, alcohol is not :)

I look at it this way I would not give my child a drink there for would not give my unborn child one either.

edited to say I did not want that to sound mean its just my point of view. What one decides to do is for no one else to judge.

Yes, you are entitled to make your own choices. But it's really not about you, it's about your unborn child. Someone who drinks while prego is ASKING for something bad to happen to their child, and that is terrible. Knowing their ARE RISKS, you continue to have your "wine" or a beer here or there. That's a load of bull ! Your Child does not deserve to be treated that way. Everytime you have a drink, give one to your children of any age perferablt between the ages of 1-12, give them the same amount you are drinking....IS THAT OKAY?!!?! OF COURSE NOT! SO why is it okay to drink while pregnant?

My First..I wasn't judging, but I was stating my PROFESSIONAL opinion. Not only do I raise a child with special needs, but I WORK with kids with special needs. Down Syndrome CANNOT be prevented so how dare you even try to compare Down Syndrome to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Yes, it is a personal choice, but what personal choice is your unborn baby making when you willingly and selfishly make the decision to risk passing Fetal Alcohol Syndrome to your child. How is that fair?

I hope for yours and your child's sake that your child is NOT born with FAS, because for the innocence of that child, it would kill me to know that there is yet another child born that has preventable disabilities. That goes for EVERY MOTHER who selfishly chooses to drink during their pregnancy.

40 weeks of abstaining from alcohol is not long, but try to imagine the lifetime of struggle your children are about to go through because of your selfish decision. A lifetime is a LONG time.

I was quoting the 'totally, pure etc' comment, not whether its avoidable or not. Its a choice, and I have made a choice. So flame me for making my own choice with the information that has been presented to me, both medical and otherwise, and advice from Dr, Midwife etc...

So I assume the mothers that drink while pregnant, still eat dangerous foods? Smoke? smh

The point of NOT consuming anything bad during pregnancy is to have a healthy fresh pure baby, who wouldnt want that?

How does that pay any relevance to the conversation? Eating say "soft cheese" one time is hardly comparable to getting blind drunk

My point was, the docter tells you a lists of things that are dangerous for the baby, like sushi, i love sushi...but i cant have it. The Dr tells us this for a reason, to protect our unborn. Such as drinking. So yes, TO ME, it is relevant.:flower:

This is what it really boils down to doesnt it. Everything else aside, we should and can put our babies first.

Yes your choices are...

protect your unborn or not protect your unborn.
drink water or have wine.

^ well im afraid they are basing that on old research, how can they say its okay? Do they personally know for sure? Recent studies have proven that no amount is safe 100%

You might have one a week and your baby may be fine, but how do you really know? Evry recent study i have seen recommends NO alcohol, for the fact that they cant say for sure how much exactly may or may not be safe.

Why risk it? I just dont understand. You dont need alcohol, it does nothing good for your baby? Whats the big deal in abstaining for such a short amount of time?

Sorry misunderstanding I wasn't, at that stage, saying you were judging. Plus you mis understand the context of the Downs. I meant, if a monther decides not to carry on a pregnancy, which is against a lot of peoples opinion it is her persoanl choice to make. Just as I have the ifnormation on the alcohol is a mothers personal choice to make. I wasnt comparing, just saying both moral dilemmas which prople have different opinions. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

You have no control tho over your baby ending up with downs syndrome? x

Its a choice, I enjoy alcohol, plus I have not been told to abstain totally. Do I take the advice from my Dr's and Midwives, or do I take advice from a Forum? As I keep saying, its a personal choice...

The advice to abstain is not from this forum. Nor should it be taken from an individual doctor or midwife either, but from country and world health organisations......there are plenty that back up the no safe amount message.

Agreed. There is no control over that. And to not carry on, would be messed up but thats for a different thread.

Question for the drinkers: If you found out that your unborn had a disodor because of your drinking, what would you do?

So I ignore all my Dr/Midwife Literature, that I have been handed out? Plus the advice from them?

Yes! And to drink means, you are putting your unborn in harms way because you enjoy a drink.....
