To wipe or not to wipe?

I read something a while back, which said that baby wee has the same PH level as their skin, and so constantly wiping after they wee actually causes an imbalance as the wipes have a different PH level. Ever since i havent wiped him after wet nappies. He has a bath every night, and he has never had nappy rash. I just wondered, do you wipe, or do you not?

It never once occurred to me to use a wipe if his diaper was only wet. I've only ever used them to wipe up poop.

I've never heard that. I do wipe him whatever but obviously only a couple of times if hes wet and more if hes pooed. Hes never had nappy rash so far xx

I dont think nappy rash has anything (or at least much) to do with the wee, its caused by the bacteria when wee meets poo.
I just automaticaly wipe even when its just wee, it jsut seemed a natualy thing to do although I do wipe with a cotton pad after as I dont like the idea of leaving him wet from wipes.

depends how much hes wee'd, if its a small amount then i use a wet tissue if its a lot i use a wipe, because i do believe that urine can cause irriation of the skin if left too long.

I also put baby powder better his legs where moisture gets trapped in the folds of skin.

hes never had severe diaper rash and only a small amount the first few days of life on his bum

Yep I wipe...just out of habit really. Madeline did have nappy rash early on, but that was because she had the runs from some antibiotics she was on and has never had it since x

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, I would say every other change I give him a good wipe down. If its the middle of the night and he has a full nappy I just quickly swap nappies over without wiping because if I do he wakes up (unless he's poo'd of course) x

I always wiped Sean..just quickly with pee and more thoroughly w/ a poop. Hes 2 now and has had some rashes...but I dont think they were related to being wiped.

i have been known to not wipe, but only if im changing her in the car or someplace awkward iykwim

at home she gets wiped everytime, in fact it has never crossed my mind not to wipe, and when she poos i clean her with wipes and baby lotion, just to make sure its all away and she smells lovely lmao

I dont wipe pee diapers just because the diaper will absorb any extra pee off the skin.. never had an issue.

I will usually always wipe and I go all out with powder etc if she poops lol

She never had nappy rash until last week and that was due to a couple of days of bad teething but cleared up quickly.....I actually swapped from huggies pure wipes to Johnsons aloe vera ones for those few days and I think that really helped plus they don't seem to leave the skin so damp which is good xx

Same here... and I always felt bad that I never wiped in the middle of the night, but now reading this thread, I don't

I do only a light wipe because I have to get one out of the packet anyway to cover his bits so he won't soak me. I feel I may as well use that wipe.

I wipe every other wet nappy... to be honest it's only because LO doesn't like it and I don't like to upset him lol I used to wipe my other boy at every change it never occured to me not to.. I always wipe after a wee so I never thought not to wipe him LOL but it makes sense I guess

Thats how I always saw it, I wouldnt leave the loo without wiping so why should he

Plus I have to re wipe as well because 9/10 he tinkles just as I turn away to pick the cream put up

hahaha... my boy is terrible for that - I always open up the next nappy ready for him, but he still manages it!!
