To wipe or not to wipe?

I used wipes when he poos but blot him with cotton wool when he is wet - even though it leaves fluff on his bits :haha:

I always wipe, but then my LO poos very frequently so there's almost always something else there too!

I don't wipe if I need to do a night time change [since he stopped pooing overnight] just to avoid disturbing him too much.

Another question: does anyone dry after wiping? I used to for the first couple of months with a bit of cotton wool, not quite sure why but I don't bother anymore!

Yup! H is always covered in bits of fluff from cotton wool :haha: looks like father christmas' beard down there at times

Hi

I ALWAYS give him a wipe even if the nappy is only slightly moist.

Regardless of how many hours a nappy lasts, I change Isaac every 3 hours.

I also leave him without a nappy for 2 mins to allow his bum to dry before putting on the clean nappy.

So far we've had no sore bums or any redness.

Nicola xx

I wipe after every nappy weather its wee or poop. It never occurred to me not to I just thought it was the done thing lol. DD has never had nappy rash touch wood but after she's pooped I always put sudocream on her.

Yep, I always wipe and then blot dry with a towel.

i always wipe, its never occurred to me not to.. like others, i wipe after a wee so i wipe her too.. x

I use reuseable nappies and wipes. I use a dry fleece wipe to pat/gently wipe down if he's just pee'd. For poops I use my wipe solution (A small spray bottle squirted onto his skin &/or the wipe) and I use fleece wipe or a terry wipe if its particularly sticky!

i will be wiping him after every change. Pee has uric acid in which actually burns skin when left too long. I wouldn't want pee stuck to my legs and skin so why should it be any different? x

I wipe after both. I wipe myself afer having a wee so it never occured to me not to wipe him.

I wipe if she has pooed or has a full nappy. If she has only done one wee I don't wipe as I was told the same thing about the ph levels in their skin. It isn't just wee that makes them have a nappy rash, it's when they have wee'd and pooed together I think

I always wipe, even after a wee. If nothing else just to freshen him up

I always wipe when she's wee'd, i don't like the thought of her bum having dried wee on it i wouldn't like it if i just pulled up my knickers without wiping, i wasn't aware that some wipes could irritate skin although i do use the aloe vera ones to help soothe, and also just to freshen her up. Ruby has never had nappy rash so far..... touch wood! xx

Urine pH is used to classify urine as either a dilute acid or base solution. Seven is the point of neutrality on the pH scale. The lower the pH, the greater the acidity of a solution; the higher the pH, the greater the alkalinity. The glomerular filtrate of blood is usually acidified by the kidneys from a pH of approximately 7.4 to a pH of about 6 in the urine. Depending on the person's acid-base status, the pH of urine may range from 4.5 to 8. The kidneys maintain normal acid-base balance primarily through the reabsorption of sodium and the tubular secretion of hydrogen and ammonium ions. Urine becomes increasingly acidic as the amount of sodium and excess acid retained by the body increases. Alkaline urine, usually containing bicarbonate-carbonic acid buffer, is normally excreted when there is an excess of base or alkali in the body. Secretion of an acid or alkaline urine by the kidneys is one of the most important mechanisms the body uses to maintain a constant body pH.

Average skin ph is 5.5, although this can vary a little depending on a number of factors.

I wipe with every nappy change.

iv commented on here before but iv just thought, i have a boy so i dont wipe if he has only had a wee unless the nappys full, however if i had a girl i would wipe at every nappy change because i assume it would otherwise just sit in the creases. Xxx

It's never occurred to me not to wipe after a wee change.
