I currently work full time and will be 20 wks pregnant on Wednesday. Since fallen pregnant Iv had so much time off sick with ms, uti, vertigo, sickness bug and ear infection. (My immune system seems to have left the building).. I work in a call centre And work 7.15 hours a day 5 days a week when Im there lol.. I work with targets and have been unable to hit them since December!! Iv always hit my targets and beyond but since Iv lots of time off haven't really been able to take the bull by the horns n get stuck in plus current climates n people not been able to afford extras on top of their home insurance etc etc..
Any how Im currently trying to decide wether or not to request cutting my hours by 7 to 10 hours a week in order for my targets to be lowered and to hopefully lessen the amount of time off in sick.. I honestly do feel crap having been off work so much in the last 4 months, at the end of the day mine and Darcys healths more important..
Thanks for taking time to read sorry its long winded and boring :)

I personally wouldn't, here are my reasons;

Your illness is pregnancy related meaning the company can't do anything like discipline you etc for not meeting targets (I'm assuming you have a drs note or similar) and its obvious you won't meet targets whilst your off sick.

It's harder to get back full time hours whilst part time if you decide to go back full time after maternity.

Your SMP will drop if you lower your hours before mat leave.

Could you talk to your boss instead about your worries with the targets? Maybe they'll get lowered?

A tricky decision! Something to consider is would reducing your hours effect your maternity pay?

I was goi g to say what Vespa said. It certainly will for the 90% section of the pay, but SMP may also reduce depending on your current salary.

I might ask to be put on post n prompts where I wouldn't have a target to stress over n wouldn't have to take calls from sometimes horrendous customers.. Im going to call my team leader n discuss it with her.. Thanks ladies xx

Good idea.

I had a problem with my ears, which stopped me being able to take calls and while technically I could have lost me job as I was a temp I spoke to my team leader who found me a post in an admin team off the phones while I got it sorted.

Have you sorted when you'll start maternity etc yet? Maybe you could give them some time-frames etc so they can see you're serious and have thought things through.
