True Blood!

Don't worry, PB... you can read through the thread if you want! Anything that might be a spoiler has been hidden under the spoiler tags, so unless you cave and click, you won't be spoiled on anything.

It was a bit... rauncy!!! To say the least, haha. Not quite what I expected and Bill isn't how I imagined him, although Sam is and Jason.
Can't wait til next week!

I haven't read the whole thread as it's quite long but I adored Buffy and Angel when I was younger and watched them from day one and was a huge fan, conventions the lot. HATED the rip off of Buffy that the UK did called Hex, and thought I'd hate another rip off of it, Blonde girl in love with a vamp but love, love, love it. A more grown up version of Buffy, and Vinnie from home and away is in it lol

Holy crap I am addicted to his program!! Just watched S1 Ep1 and have never watched the show before.

I like the fact it's set in Louisiana too, as I spent a fair bit of my life there :)

Love it love it love it! :happydance:

We watched True Blood on FX and me and the OH loved it. We have seen the whole of season 1 can't wait till season 2 is out.

At the minute I'm watching series 1 on channel four. When and what channel is series 2 on? :)

Not sure about over there, but if you get ansy you can download them too. That's what P and I did.

:thumbup::thumbup: Thats what we did too .. I saw a couple of episodes and was like "I want the series"!!

Just downloaded ep2. I am SO addicted! Ahhhh what happens next!!

:happydance:

I'm dying. Season 2 ends in a massive cliffhanger, although have you noticed that most of the episodes end in a mini-cliffhanger of sorts? Season 3 won't air until next summer. Seems so far away! :hissy:

Not read whole thread, watched first one... i think its really good! Bit like twilight.. but oh so good! cant wait to see more!

My box set of the novels arrived today!
I decided to splurge and buy them on sale as I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. Like I said earlier, they are light, witty and fun, and I really don't think you'll spoil the TV series for yourself if you read them. For those of you jonesing for more Sookie, I would definitely check them out. There seems to be a very good online sale for the first eight novels as a set.

Mine came the other day Sarah! :happydance:

I'm almost finished the first one. From reading it I think Anna Paquin did really well with getting into the "Sookie" character. :)

I'm loving this! OH has read the books and is really glad that so far it seems to be sticking quite well to the books. Personally I'm trying to figure out whether I think Sam or Bill is hotter- currently I'm going with the idea that Bill would be good for a bit of a fling but Sam's a 'for keeps' guy!

So glad when it came out on normal TV, and even happier that it's on on a Wednesday night as we're not busy then!! We're also glad that Channel 4 doesn't seem to have edited it- well, we're assuming it hasn't been edited as they left in sex scenes and bad language.

Just a question for the people who've read the books and seen the TV show- would I be right in saying that one season of the TV show roughly corresponds to one book?

As an aside, for fans of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series, apparently Laurell K Hamilton is currently in talks to make an Anita Blake TV series/film/both- can't quite remember but it's in her blog from a while back!

Beca

Ok, just finished watching the 1st series and here's my thoughts!

I managed to figure out the dog was a shape shifter very early on. Didn't figure out who it was until Sam was caught running naked through the woods!

Didn't figure out who the killer was at all until the end!

I *love* Bill! Not a Sam or Erik girl, I love Bill :cloud9: I really think Sookie should ask to be turned and they could live happily ever after. Well, as happily as vampires can!

Now where can I get the second season?!

I don't agree that the show has followed the books closely.
I would say that Season 1 was slightly more based on the book than Season 2, but that both have new characters and plotlines that don't even exist in the novels, or that are a huge spin-off from what the novel originally wrote. I do agree that they seem to be basing one season per book, however loosely.
I don't think it's a problem though. I think the show is capturing the world that Charlaine Harris created quite well. There are even things from the show that I think are improvements on the books. Tara and Lafayette, for instance. Those are two of the coolest, best-written characters I have seen on TV in a long time. And those two actors are going to town with those roles. I think the show is very well-cast, in general.

I'd love to hear more opinions on this - for those who have read the books and watched the show, what do you think? :) Could be a fun debate!
Oh! could someone explain how to do spoilers in case we do decide to have such a discussion and want to use examples? Please and thank you! :)

Sarah - To do a spoiler: use [spoiler*] and [/spoiler*] (without the *) and that will put anything you don't want seen under a spoiler tag.

I've only just started Book 2 - Living Dead In Dallas. Because I loved Lafayette's character so much I was disappointed that they killed him off so quickly. But then I remembered he had a very minor part in the first book, which is pretty different than the series.

Also, I just got to the part where they mention that Lafayette has a 'cousin', but nothing more than that. I was bummed that Tara didn't make an appearance in the first novel. I'm wanting to know how the whole Maryanne thing happens, but then I keep remembering Sarah mentioning that the series is 'loosely' based off the novels.

:)

I absolutely LOVE True Blood!! It's amazing and Bill is so fit.. Sookie is one lucky girl haha

I agree that the TV is very 'loosely' based on the books, the 'world' and the main characters are the same, and the story lines are similar, but some things are missed out and some are added in.
But I think that inevitable with TV, a direct translation of the books might be a little dry and 1 dimensional.
The added charactors and enhanced plot lines, especially in S2 -
the maenad/maryanne or Godric storylines
for example make the TV show appealing, fast paced and racy ... and explain a little about certain characters what would other wise take a long (and possibly dull) time to infer.

I've read all 9 books and I'm def an Eric girl ... love him, and the relasionships he has with those around him. Really hoping they don't mess with this 'too' much in the TV series as its really quite captivating.
His Sookie on/off thing, the ideas around protection, happiness and who he has become verses who he was, and the is it the blood bond or something else thing really make it interesting

Are the books any good? See I like the idea of Twilight but when it came down to it she was an appallingly crap writer and they were mostly waffle and as if written by a 14 year old. I'd like to read something that was written well though.
