Me and OH have decided to TTC in Feb 2011.

I have a few questions to ask a child and when I’ll conceive.

I’m 21 on the 14th Feb and more than likely my family and friends will want to plan a meal or small party so alcohol will be on the menu, me and my fiancé want to start trying at the beginning of February so I don’t really want to drink at all from now on till the near future, I’m just wondering if we start trying (every day!) at the being of February and wait the two weeks before testing that will fall on my birthday weekend could I be pregnant or not also do you think me and my fiancé should wait till after my birthday weekend before actually start trying, just don’t want to not drink and people will know straight away that we’re pregnant or we’re start trying!

Also we are moving into a two bedroom house at the end of the month, I’m super excited :happydance::happydance: and when we went to view the house the 2nd bedroom was painted yellow and perfect size for a baby so that made me even more excited. I just want to know what are the actual necessities and what are luxuries for a nursery and a baby in general?

Thank you :)

it depend when you ovulate hunni. Most people ovulate around 14 days from the 1st day of their period. You are fertile 2-3 days either side of that date so there is only a 6 day window AT THE MOST you can fall pregnant.

Necessities for nursery IMO

Crib/moses basket
cotbed
wardrobe and chest of drawers
monitor if they are in own room

luxuries:
changing table (but i couldn't live without mine!!)
nursing chair
mobile

necessities for baby:

steriliser
bottles x6
playmat
towels
blankets
pram
carseat
bibs
vests x10 newborn and 0-3
sleepsuits x7 newborn and 0-3

luxuries

swing:thumbup: (gracie will only nap in hers)
bouncer
toys (don't really need them for the first 2 months or so as they aren't really interested in them)
baby bath (but i love mine)

blimey cant think what i use! :wacko:lol

if i remember anything else will let you know!!!:dohh:

Have you thought about waiting till after your birthday to ttc? That way you can still enjoy one glass of something without worrying about it! It's only a matter of days really and then your family won't get suspicious either.

Baby necessities - cotbed (rather than a small cot because you can take the sides down and use it as a junior sized bed, so will last you longer)
Chest of drawers
Pram/pushchair
Carseat
Muslin cloths
Sleepsuits
sleeveless vests
a couple of cotton hats
steriliser and some bottles even if you bf so that you can express
breast pump if you are bf (oh, and pre-sterilised milk bags for the freezer)
a sponge seat that baby lies on in the bath (easier than a baby bath)
a really good quality cotton blanket - DD has a Mamas and Papas one and it has been her comforter since she was born. We brought her home from the hospital wrapped in it and she cuddles it at bedtime and naptime now and she's 1! She loves it and I would definitely get another one when we have baby number 2

Nice things to have that are still really useful but not essential:
Baby sling
Changing mat - don't get a material one, get a plastic one and use a towel because new babies poo and wee every time you take their nappy off. I was forever putting the change mat cover in the wash and gave up in the end and just used hand towels
Cot mobile
Bouncy chair
Moses basket (you can use the carrycot from the pram)

The things we had but never used:
Travel cot/playpen - hate it and have never used it
Personally, we didn't use the bouncy chair hardly at all
Bumbo seat - someone gave it to us but DD hated it
Scratch mittens - pointless. Keep baby's nails trimmed every few days and they don't scratch their face, plus it's important for baby to find out about the world with their hands and not have them covered up in gloves all the time
Booties - they just come off and you end up losing them

Can't think of anything else just yet - there's so many things!

Thank you guys :),

I’m just getting so confused with what I need for the house/nursery and what I don’t need, also trying to save on money with bundle deals.

I’ve been having this debate with myself and researching about carseats… I don’t like the idea that the child is going to be at a curved angle whilst they are in the carseat when the pram is fit from birth I was thinking of getting a Ultima 9-in-1 from Mamas and Papas. I know it has the carseat showing for the highchair bit but I don’t think I’ll be using it much and it’s worth the money I know I’ll be using it till the child is about 3 year old. Plus it has the carrycot of the pram, so that’s useful for the first 6 months of being in our room.

Also on the carseat issue again (feels like I’m being so negative about them! Sorry!) Me and OH don’t have a car at the moment and when we finally do I’m thinking of getting a forward facing 0-4 years carseat which would come in handy when grandparents have the baby and it’s saving money instead of two or three carseats.

I’m thinking of getting a bouncer and a playgym ring for the child be a little more relaxed and have room to move around but doesn’t have the angled back at the same time. I’m just worried that the first few months before it can sit up and be more stronger I feel like I don’t want to put the child down.

I work as a Nursery Practitioner in the Baby Suite and we have a the moment a very young baby in who is only 3 months old and I don’t like seeing him in anything really, I like carrying him round and showing him displays or the hanging artwork etc so I feel like I’ll be like that when I have a child (I’ll probably just want them to be placed down somewhere because I’m so tired!) but I don’t know I cant think what I’d do while we’re at home and they are away… cant really explain what I’d want really!

Me and OH have already decided that we’re not having a baby bath and we’ll just have a bath together for bonding time and saving on space. The bathroom we have is big enough to place the baby in the gym ring or bouncer while we wash or on our own.
Was thinking about having two changing mats, one downstairs and one in the nursery just so it’s at hand and can get one for a few pound they don’t have to be posh.

People I’ve spoken to have been saying that everything that they have in their Nursery is matching, I think only thing that would match would be the bedding that’s it and be very plain colour wise keeping it minimalist. But say that I’m saying all this and when I do eventually get pregnant I’ll be wanting everything I can see it now! Hope I can stick to my saving plans though!

Oh….I think we’ll be leaving it to the end of February beginning of March :). Hopefully. Just see what happens. My cycle really confuses me at the moment!

Thanks again. Sorry about the mini essay. I just get so excited about baby things and pregnancies!

Happy Bumpos

P.S. Where can you get good deals etc... EBay maybe? x
