uhh... breastfeeding an 8 year old??

I remember saying I wouldnt do it after 6 months when I started.

so did I! still going strong at 7 months + :happydance:

Hopefully we will be as lucky as you and william and still be going when Adam is nearing 2 :)

must be tricky though feeding a toddler with a bump though? I commend you!

Oh my god its so hard with the bump, sliding off the knee cant get comfy at all in a chair! easy in bed though. And one boob works now not both. Milk changing.

Not very nice use of the word 'weird' in here. Guess I'm 'weird' cos Amelie will def still be BF when she's 2.

OK, never read all the threads...sorry, but I have a 7 year old son. Is it right for a BOY to breastfeed at that age still? Sorry...I am for BFing too. BF my son until he was 20mths, my daughter until she was 19mths, but after 2 (3 even, but IMO that is pushing it). There is no health benefits. These kids may be homeschooled, I don't know...but, I would imagine if they went to public school and their friends caught wind of this (nice for mom to put it on national television) that these girls would be made fun of. I found it interesting, for sure...but almost like a human experiment...what would a child say if she still BF type thing. I can see in a third world country where there is no food, but to me...it just seems wrong. Like I said, I wouldn't want my 7 year old son pulling up my shirt and sucking on my boobs.

there is benefits at the age of 3! Lots of them.

Guess thats another lack of educating thing.

I dont know why poeple have it in their head after 6 months the milk is no good, honestly ffs! sounds like a formula marketing rumour to make me use formula. proof is in the pudding and if my milk was no good after 6 months or a year my son wouldnt be the way he is surely? he should be starved and malnourished as he still loves boob more than anything.

Dont take it personally,
It wasnt used as an attack against anyone i used the weird in regards to BF an 8 year old, not a 2 year old. I said i personally couldnt see myself feeding my baby after the age of 2, but 8 years old yes imo is weird.

Wayy over sensitive

Hardly. It's not nice for people to slander your parenting techniques.

In my opinion, it's our society that is "weird" for not breastfeeding older toddlers and children. In cultures where breastfeeding is completely natural and normal, children often don't wean until 7 or 8. Losing their milk teeth is seen as a sign that they are ready to wean. The sexualization of breasts in our culture has a lot to answer for! I also find it really strange that parents are quite happy to feed their children milk from the udders of a completely different mammal!

I've been reading this thread but haven't posted anything yet. I feel in between on the issue and not strongly enough way or another to comment really whilst being very interested in reading what others have to say. But I do feel compelled to ask why people feel it's abnormal to drink cow's milk just because other animals don't do it? Other animals also don't wear skin on their feet or dress in garments made of their hair, they don't burn each others' fat to light their dens or use it to wash their faces, they don't cook the meat they eat either. Cats and dogs love milk, I'm sure many wild mammals would relish it given the chance to not have to get nutrition in a more difficult way. Humans have been able to develop techniques that have allowed us to do all these things, we're lucky rather than abnormal! I just find it a very odd argument against drinking cow's milk and hence formula.

Im sorry>? Did i miss something? No one slandered YOUR parenting techniques.

Im not allowed to have a personal opinion? This is ridiculous.

I have absolutely no problem with humans drinking cow's milk, I just think it is odd that cow's milk is considered more "normal" for humans than human milk!

Breastmilk adapts and changes with your growing child. The milk she is getting is as good for her now as it was when she was a newborn.

My opinion on her feeding from the breast is torn. I can see and understand that the little girl gets comfort from it, but perhaps at the age of 8 she should be drinking it from a cup? But on the other hand it's like the mother said. 'she won't be doing it when she goes off to college or gets married. It's just a few years'. Good on her xx

Not directly but they have.

+ you can have an opinion of course, you just should err on the side of caution in the language you use and the words you choose. Weird isn't a nice adjective.

Im sorry you take such offence at my opinion of the video. Breastfeeding an 8 year to me is weird? Whats wrong with that?

Im sure there are many who would agree. I never said it was 'wrong' but to me its something i have never seen before and i think its way too old.

Its not just you who said it hun.

I realise that, but i just dont think there is anything harsh about that opinion, its not exactly the norm is it?
Hence why people would find it very unusual.

Im all for BF btw, but at that age, she should be feeding from a cup at least.

I mean what if the 8 year old was still drinking from a bottle, or sucking on a dummy, or even wearing a nappy? what would peoples opinion be then?

She is not a baby.

Thats not the same AT ALL :\ Whats the benefit of any of those things over toddlerhood? None. Breastmilk has loads of benefits.

I think its the same. Give her breast milk by all means , im not saying it doesnt have its benefits, but straight off the breast? She is treating the little girl like a baby?

She may as well put her in a nappy and give her a dummy as well imo

Well 'imo' your opinion sucks.

Lets just agree to disagree.
