Underhand tactics - formula companies

agreed. its not the word, but the connotation. we dont go around talking about 'artificial nappies' and we wouldnt dream of talking about csection ladies & their 'artificial births' so why is it necessary to continue to use this 'artifical feeding' thing!
To be fair, I do feel like a fraud when it comes to birth. I have a baby but have no idea what it feels like to have a contraction or be in labour. :dohh:

I don't like the word "artificial" when it comes to formula. It doesn't sound right.

When Abby was in NNICU they gave her a fluid called TPN which basically gave her everything she was getting through the umbillical cord. It wasn't "artificial" as far as I'm concerned, I prefer the word "synthetic"

I think I just prefere the word food :)

With reference to the bottles.. you never see them advertised either?! Do they have the same regulations?

Do you mean the little glass sma bottles and such?
They come under the same law

I never heard the term "artificial" used for CS or ffing before reading this thread :)

It's soo funny. I gave birth "artificially". feed my LO "artificial" milk frm "artificial" breast, my baby is happy & thriving :haha:

Sounds like a good signature :haha:

Listen!!!!! Iv had a few glasses of wine right now (lol) bit drunk but this thread is doing my tits in! ( babys fast asleep) just thought I'd change the subject to wine!!!!!!!! :p

Never seen an advert for sterilisers either, but I have seen for sterilising fluid. They sell it as a general cleany thing though - for worktops or washing salad etc.

Iv seen magazine adverts for them but not tv ones, but then I cant remember the last time I saw a tv advert for purred baby food either.

Formula is a lot better in the 21st century, its full of everything a baby needs (all except mummys antibodies), but baby will produce their own antibodies...

It is a lot better, and since formula is here to stay, and no matter how popular or not it is or becomes, I hope that it keeps on getting better.

While formula does meet a baby's nutritional needs, there's so much more in human milk other than antibodies that isn't found in formula, though. Aside from it's obvious purpose as a nutritional source, human milk is fascinatingly complex in what it contains and to what end. Even now scientists are discovering things about it that they didn't know before, like this here: https://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/03/science/03milk.html?_r=2&emc=eta1

How interesting and cool is that?

Weird how bottles and sterilisers arent advertised either really. Its not as if I never used my steriliser cos I used it for spoons and weaning bowls  didnt really use my bottles i got with it though. She turned her nose up at expressed milk in a bottle LOL
