Wednesday night in my bed I was in agony, my boobs were so sore and I had fever like symptoms with my body feeling achy. I thought I had a bug. Was up from 3.30 am Thursday morning in tears, Dale was trying his best to keep me warm but I was like a corpse.

Anyhow, feeding was pain beyond belief, so I thought I would go and see the Dr as I felt I must need antibiotics.

He examined me and advised that I needed to see the breast specialist in Edinburgh as he thinks I have an abcess aswell as the mastitis.

I was sent to the Western General in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon and what really put the shiters in me was i was put in a ward where they treat breast cancer (my mum had her lumpectomy done there) it was so depressing, but they see all breast probs in there now. not nice.

Anyway the specialist came and done an ultrasound on both breasts, the left one has 3 abcesses in it and the right has 1 but they are all small thankfully and did not need drained! phew! The right breast also has an infection in the ducts.

I have been put on 2000mg a day of antibiotics-flucloxacillin, and told I must keep breastfeeding as if I stop it would put to much pressure on the abcesses and they could burst.

Ive to go back to the breast clinic on Tuesday for a check up.

I have to say things are never plain sailing for me and I am in absolute agony!

Lucy thanks for your PM hun, I will reply later when the kids are in bed! Rebecca is running riot as I type!

xxx

Oh no! You don't get it easy with pregnancies do you hun :hugs:

I hope the anti bs kicked in quickly & they go away soon

:hugs:

hope you start to feel better soon hun, sounds very painful :(

x

You're doing so well to get through this, after all this crap at the start it'll be so much easier.

I admire you for being able to go to appointments so soon after birth - you must be supermum!

Bloody hell, Wonderwoman!!!

That sounds so painful Karrina. I hope things get less painful once the anti-b's kick in, and things will be plainsailing from there.

Well done to you. I totally admire you x

Christ hon, your poor boobies! When I had anti-bs when I was breastfeeding my supply seemed to drop a bit so don't be alarmed if that happens just keep feeding, drinking and eating. Probably explains why you've been feeling so bloody shite, you poor poor thing!!

OMG KX! I hope you feel better soon and the antibiotics kick in quickly!! (HUGZ)

Ladies I am nothing to admire, I haven't had the energy to look after Rebecca like I should, I still do things for her, but I honestly get really ratty with her when she has one of her hissy fits its not fair on her. I have no energy at all, and I dread when Lucy needs feeding cause I think of the excruciating pain I am going to endure.

I was also put on amoxycillin yesterday for a urine infection (750mg per day) can someone please assure me that these will not be doing Lucy any harm?

I mean in total 2750mg of antibiotics a day and the MW is telling me to still take paracetemol and Im on iron tablets-surely this will have some affect on Lucy?

I want to do the best by her by feeding her myself but in the long run I could be doing her more damage than good?

Sorry for moaning but I just feel a bit low just now xxx

I have been on amoxycillan whilst breastfeeding so please don't worry about that hun x

I think that the only thing that may happen is that she could get a slightly upset tum - as your MW knows you're breastfeeding they wouldn't put you on ones that would harm her ((hugs)). How are you feeling?

just wanna send you some cyber hugs KX xx

Hi ladies,

Lucy and I ended up at St Johns Hosp on Sat night-I became really ill, seriously went down hill and Lucy developed the same rash I had, which sounds pesimistic but looked like the one I had when I had viral meningitis.

Anyway, Lucy is fine, she was still feeding etc and temp was fine, so they put hers down to a reaction to the antibiotics I am taking.

Me well thats a different story, I apparently have mild blood poisoning (scepticemia) caused by the infection travelling through my body. This is supposed to be common with absesses???lol. it is only a mild form so I am lucky. They wanted to admitt me there and then but would not take Lucy in-I mean wtf, I am a bf mother, I was going to have to extract-which would be impossible.

Anyway I got home, Im now on dihydracodeine, and am feeling so much better! I still look rather spotty, and feel a wee bit crap but nothing like I was.

I am back at the breast clinic tomorrow afternoon to make sure the abcesses havent got any bigger.

Will keep you all posted. what a journey this has been-an amazing pregnancy but shit afterwards....

Kina how the hell do you cope feeding Alex with Ella running about? Everytime Im feeding Lucy, Rebecca is climbing on the couch etc...Ahh its a nightmare!

xxxx
