US/UK Food: You call it whaaaaaaaat?

Sounds like english muffins!

I love them with nutella, and banana's :haha:

crumpets are different from muffins.

"A muffin (or, in North America, English muffin) is a small, round, flat type of yeast-leavened bread almost always dusted with cornmeal, which is commonly served split horizontally, toasted, and buttered"

"A crumpet /ˈkrʌmpɨt/ ( listen) is a sweet and savoury bread snack made from flour and yeast."

an english muffin is what they cut in half an use in mcdonalds for mcmuffins. crumpets you just toast or grill, they are not cut in half or anything.

but they sell them right next to each other at the supermarket... doesn't that , like, make them the same? :haha:

Yum, the crumpet looks yummier than an english muffin..

I want funnel cake :haha:

Hmm.. They look a lot alike. I'd like to try a crumpet!

Oh god Im desperate for crumpets and butter now..... :munch:

Droooool

Oh man I NEED crumpets now!! Drool!
Sorry to get off the food topic but I was just watching an episode of Murder She Wrote (having a duvet day!) and they were talking about 'sodder' - it wasn't until they actually showed what they were talking about that I realised they meant solder - as in a soldering iron - in the UK we say the L so its soul-der-ing. I was very confused! Soddering sounds kinda rude to me!

Well, even if they were talking about a "sodder" (though I know what you mean)... it would probably be in reference to someone who lays sod for a living. This is sod:

In the US, we don't use sod the way you do. I do now... but no one knows what I'm talking about! LOL

lol, I call it soddering! :)
If I pronounced the L it would get too close to the word soldier

but they sell them right next to each other at the supermarket... doesn't that , like, make them the same? :haha:

they sell cakes and cookies right next to bread in the supermarket though but that doesnt make them the same!! crumpets are really hard to explain haha, but trust me an english muffin and a crumpet really dont taste anything like each other, the texture is completly different! im trying to think of how to describe them but i cant find the words lol xx

lol.... well I always used that logic to justify having cookies for breakfast... you know, they're just 2 feet away from the bread which is toast etc...:haha:
Ok, totally kidding, but yeah

Girls you need to buy both muffins and crumpets and do a taste test :) its the only way to know the difference

Mmmmmm - pass the butter!

I'm gonna look for crumpets when I go to the grocer tomorrow!

This thread has made me giggle :D :D

Why are US egg shells white????

Ours are brown!

The lion is a stamp to say it's a British egg :)

I proper love crumpets!! I love mopping up the melted butter that's oozed through the bottom of them mmmmmmmmmmm!

Dunno what a jaffa cake is. LOL

We have both white and brown eggs. There's no difference!

According to the Egg Nutrition Board, "White shelled eggs are produced by hens with white feathers and ear lobes. Brown shelled eggs are produced by hens with red feathers and red ear lobes. There is no difference in taste or nutrition between white and brown eggs."

Weird!! I think the only white eggs I've seen are duck eggs x

This is a jaffa cake, most gorgeous thing known to man!

I'd say a crumpet is more spongey.... but not at the same time :haha:
