VBAC info/support

I haven't wrote on here for a while but I didn't get my VBAC. :nope: my uterus scar ruptured, teared down my vagina and bladder too so DS2 was very lucky to make it. I'm disappointed but mostly just happy that we are both okay.

Ouch how are you feeling hope your healing ok and so glad baby and you are ok :flower:

Omi hope you're healing OK and glad your lo made it. Big hugs!!

wow Omi...how scary...Hope you heal up fine after all that. Glad your little boy is doing fine. Take care xo

Thank you everyone. So happy I stood my ground and insisted on induction before c section. My oh, mum, consultants etc were all against it, but they couldn't refuse. We had some help with forceps, but little Jessica made a very quick and dramatic arrival! I almost didn't get my vbac though. They were prepping me for surgery, and the anaesthetist was on his way, when they decided to do a quick internal check. I'd gone from 'almost' 1cm to 10cm in under 2 hours, her head was there and I was starting to push! Too late for an emergency c section!! I still feel I made the right choice, even with how scary things got. Jessica was born at 7.06am last Monday, we were kept in until 8.30pm Friday. Originally for my blood pressure, then Jessica developed jaundice and needed phototherapy treatment. We're now all home and love being a family. She's beautiful and I spend most my day just watching her!!

Omi, that sounds terrible, glad to hear you're both safe though xx

;) I love her name! Im so happy for you!!!! :D

Sooo - the office that I have my consult with in July called today to get some info from me- the nurse kind of went over my birthing HX- and sounds pretty optimistic that I will be able to VBA3C!!! :) She says because I have had my first 3 births vaginally it shows that I have a reliable pelvis. however - The Dr will only do it based on an ok from an MSN ( I believe thats what she said lol- hope so anyway) but she actaully stated that they have done it and in fact the have a mom who is laboring right now with 3 vaginal first births and 3 c sections after. So she wants me to remain positive on it :D so far so good- but still need approval from a specialist after they review my c section reports Fx'd!!!! :)

awesome news about little Jessica! My sister's oldest has Jessica as her middle name. It is a very pretty name. Not long to go now ladies!

Love your birth story Lexi. :flower:

Healing is worse than a regular c-section but not too bad. It was the bladder damage that is tough really. I will always regret not having a planned c-section but that is retrospect for you. If I had gone for a repeat section I would have regretted not trying a VBAC too. Obviously though what happened to me was rare and in most cases a VBAC is the safer option. It was just over 3 years since my last C-section and maybe the induction and having a larger baby had something to do with it. :shrug:

Hi

I'm 34+4, and due to have my second consultant appointment on Wednesday 19th of June. The first appointment was very brief. I stated I wanted a VBAC. What points shall I discuss with the consultant? What requests can I make at this stage? I would appreciate any advice.

Info about me and my previous labour;

* I'm 29 years old
* I'm 5 foot 2 inches (shoe size 5 - I might as well give you as much info as possible, hehe).
* I have PCOS (always had irregular periods - last period was on 14/10/12). EDD from scan is 27/07/13.
* DD was born Aug 2010 at 42+1 weighing 8.01.
* I was induced at 41+6 at 8am using first pessary. Second pessary was given in the afternoon. This gave back aches but no regular contractions. I had x2 Co Codymol at night.
* Following afternoonat 42+1 midwife broke my waters. I went for a walk. I had a sweep.
* I was told not to drink or eat due to being high risk.
* I was given the drip and they began monitoring.
* I was informed baby is back to back.
* I stood besides the bed and swayed hips. Bouncing on ball and crawling was not an option as it affected the monitors.
* labour was progressing well.
* midwife informed me that baby may be distressed and I had to lay on back while being monitored.
* I was told the consultant had an emergency and was unable to check the baby's heartbeat. This went on for a few hours (I laid in bed awaiting an update).
* labour slowed down.
* I developed fever (high temperature)
* I reached 7cm.
* The consultant arrived the following morning (42+1).
* I was advised to have an epidural or I'm "heading towards a C-Section".
* A couple of minutes after they inserted the Epidural, I was told I need a C Section.
* Reasons I recall we're risk of infection, labouring for 24 hours.

Forthcoming labour;

* I still want a VBAC.
* I would like to avoid an induction.
* I would like 2-3 sweeps before induction is discussed.
* I don't want constant monitoring, and would prefer intermittent monitoring.
* I would like the freedom to eat and drink.
* I would like to remain upright and mobile during both labour and delivery.
* I only want gas and air as pain relief.

Please let me know what I need to discuss with the consultant.

Also, any advice to avoid inductions? And, is there anything I can do differently when I'm in labour this time round.

Thank you in advance xxxxxxxxx

Choco...I felt a bit jipped at first at my hospital appointment when I mentioned a Vbac the registra looked at me like I was a crazy person. Since then all I have seen are midwifes who seem to totally support me and my decision. I understand there are "risks" to both vbac and csection and have been informed that usually they "let you try" the vbac way for baby #2 and if that ends up being a csection then with baby number 3 they are not as keen to let you try. I really had to be monitored on my back with my first and HATED it. Pretty sure that is what eventually lead to csection in the first place. All going well I hope to get my vbac and am trying everything to keep blood pressure normal and baby in a good position. All the best at your appointment and I hope you have a good support...oh I also signed in for a student midwife. She is 3rd year student and all for pushing my wishes during the birth process. It doesn't cost anything but she is wonderfully supportive and has been with me to most of my appoinments. I'd get one if they have them where you are located.

Hey all, I am happy to announce the arrival of Ethan Matthias-July 1st sharing his birthday with his Dad... I got my VBAC! The first contraction was around 2.30pm and I got to hospital about 5pm and was already 5cm dialated. I had the gas and an episiotomy and he came out at 10.12pm.
My only big problem came after the birth when I came to deliver the placenta. It would not budge! So I had to have surgery! I was so devastated but it wasn't long before I was back with my son. I lost a lot of blood and had to have 2 transfusions then a dose of antibiotics (48 hrs) for me and Ethan as I had developed a temperature. I am still on antibiotics and some pain killers but enjoying having Ethan in our lives. My student midwife was so happy as she got to catch the baby and put him on my belly :) It was her first ever baby catch so exciting for her.
DH got to cut the cord and witness a real birth experience instead of half my body being behind a giant curtain...he was thrilled that it didn't take as long as with our DD and is smitten with his new son.:happydance:

Thank you ladies! It was a huge effort to push him out the birth canal but I am grateful to have had the opportunity.
My student midwife was there the whole time telling me I can do it...she was a wonderful support.
I can't believe Ethan will be two weeks old tomorrow!!!

How did it go jay?

It went excellent actually - He said he believed i can do it- looked at my surgical reports and said that it would be a piece of cake- He believes that all women deserve a shot- he shares a mutual faith in God-however he practices Judaism and I am Christian - none the less - His faith is very inspiring and encouraging to me- So its just a matter of when Im ready! :D I read on him and did research - he actually did a piece on VBAC with PBS. When i concieve you ladies will be one of the first to know :D Im so excited!!!!
