Vegetarian Mums and Babies!

I'm attempting to make houmous, flatbreads and chickpea curry today... wish me luck!

Mmmmmmmmmm yum :)
Good luck!Houmous and chickpea curry are dead easy, you'll have no problems.
Let us know how it goes x

Awesome. I'm so impressed with myself. The houmous was a tad spicy even though I put less than half of the recommended peppers in so I had to pad it out with more lemon, tahini and chickpeas but I tried it with some of the left over flatbread dough and it's good. OH said he'd be happy to receive it in a restaurant, lol.

Hello veggie mums, this thread needs bumping up.

My LO is too young to wean yet but OH and I are both veggies so naturally Darwin will be too :)

Ooooh hi!! You're right, the thread did need a bump.

It will be weaning time for us in a few months too!Darwin is gorgeous by the way xxxx

Also-- I know we're not allowed to discuss banned members so this is all I shall say on the subject...Kirsten is inactive?!!??!?!?!?!WTF did I miss?!x

I don't know about Kirsten? How strange!

Weaning is going fab for us atm, he's really starting to 'eat', it's only taken 3.5months ha. Struggling to come up with little snacky meal ideas for him as he still eats very little but have tonnes of veggie stuff lined up for toddlerdom, I can't wait.

Hey girls!

How are we doing?

Weaning is on the way for us,which is scary!

I have been so busy with the babies that I'm not managing to cook as much as I'm used to which I HATE

X

Thankyou :)

We've started blw with Darwin now, veggie food of course. Most of it goes on the floor atm :haha:

Not got a baby...yet...but am struggling to even broach the subject of veggieness with OH. He is a devoted meat eater and i am veggie and this works - usually - I want to bring up our baby as a veggie until it can make a concious decision to choose to eat meat if it wishes but OH thinks this is really unfair. Am i being unreasonable?

Personally I don't think you're being unreasonable.
But then,I guess I'm a dedicated veggie so anyone ever eating meat seems massively unreasonable to me ;)

Who does the cooking in your house?I know in our house I was a veggie,OH a meat eater but I've always done the cooking so everyone eats veggie.

What are your OH's main objections to little one being raised a veggie?xxx

 He cooks...although when he's working again it will probably have to be me. I literally can't cook an egg! Will have to get my mum to teach me!
He thinks it's unfair to deny the child meat, he also doesn't want me to tell the child where meat comes from in case i scare it, is that fair? I want my child to be educated and informed. I know it's kinda early to be thinking about things like this but it's an important issue for me!

I don't think its too early to be thinking about it,definitely sensible to go over it now!

Personally,I don't agree with not letting children know where meat comes from but thats just me.

Maybe you could say something like 'This is really important to me,if I research how to do this properly so the baby is getting all the nutrients it needs and I learn how to cook everything, can we give this a go'?
I'm not going to lie to you, giving small children all the nutrients they need within a veggie diet,if you can't cook,is not going to be easy. But you have lots and lots of time to learn!

xxxxxx

hello everyone! :hi:
just found out about this thread!
me and my OH are both vegan and will bring our child up as a vegan as well!

MissMamaToBe - it's no more "unfair" than bringing the child up to be a meat eater!

Hiiiiii :flower: I would LOVE to be vegan but I just can't kick cheese! Well done to you xxxxxx

I've been veg for about 8yrs now, and I'm debating bringing my son up the same, I was wondering if anyone can think of some pros and cons ?

Just found this thread! Am veggie (virtually vegan as I eat what hubby eats!) and my hubby is vegan and we will be bringing LO up as veggie to begin with as we have decided to give him cows milk at the beginning (as he's FF now) but hope to have him vegan once he is a bit older. Will definitely have to watch this thread! X

Edit: and it was mentioned ages ago but re. veggie sources of omega 3 DHA - I used a great algae oil supplement called V Pure (just google it!) when I was pregnant and it was great alternative to fish oil!

YAY so glad I found this thread. For the past month or so I have been researching the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and after reading 'Skinny Bitch' I am even more convinced that this is how I need to live my life from now on.

Oooh hi to the new girls!
EternalRose,is 'Skinny Bitch' as good as everyone says it is?I've been contemplating reading it for aaaages x

Its amazing, you must get it hun!! Some parts are very tongue in cheek, and there is some bad language in it but there was so much in there that made me crack up . I.e Drinking coffee makes your breath smell like ass! I will never forget that one  Most importantly, it puts to shame the meat industry and it really got me asking myself questions. I was already thinking about going vegan, but this book gave me all the convincing I need. I mean, Geez there is rocket fuel in milk
