Welcome our new pet!

OMG !!!!!! my oh is going to go mad for this ! haha :) totes getting a skunk now !!

OMG that is so cute!!! I think if I had one in here with the kids going mad though we'd all be wiffing after 10 minutes :haha:

cute but could not have one myself, what do you do about the smell?

Dont they smell?? How do you keep them>? x
No, not unless they fear theyre life (being attacked etc) but this is usually done AFTER a little performance to warn you they will do it, as i have already said someone iv spoken too has kept them for 10years and not been sprayed! :), you keep them like a cat or dog, house train them, feed them frozen vegatables (obviously defrosted lol) and allow them to walk about freely...You can take them on walks etc, theyre like a big cat haha

As above, they dont smell unless they spray and they rarely spray :)

She's lovely! Good luck with her.

I have wanted one for years (we keep other exotics, but reptiles, not mammals) but I am put off by a) the random, painful biting and b) the damage they can inflict on your house, eg. digging through concrete floors!

Thats what OH said if we got one our house would majorly pong after 10 mins with my 3

what what what??!? how adorable, I never even knew they could be pets. I want one!! x

OMG. how cute! :cloud9:

Do they need to be neutered and vaccinated and do you need to go to a specialist exotic vet or are the neutering/vaccinations/illnesses the same as cats?

Its not recommended the female be neutered, it can cause cancer but the males should be to keep them happy and tame unless you plan to breed from them.

They do not need vaccinations, although i believe they can be done for similar things as dogs/cats....Most vets who deal with Ferrets are happy to take on skunks, they are virtually the same animal only with a spray.

They have a breeding season which starts at the the beginning of the year through until about may, that's why you cant get babies all the year around :)

One of our vets had them, one was lovely and one was horrid!
I wouldn't recommend them unless you research them well, they have very poor eye sight so can be inclined to bite, if startled. You sided to be able to get them descented but I don't think you can do that now. They do have a bit of a smell but not so strong. But be warned if they do spray you will have a hard time getting the smell out... Took our surgery weeks lol!

They bite hard too apparently!, although iv spoken to numerous keepers who haven't been bitten by their girls - hence why we chose a girl not a boy haha

Your right, you cant get them de-scented anymore, only in Ireland.

Goats milk gets the smell out ;-), luckily we keep a milking herd of goats!
