Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Well he sounds worth it then!

Just sucky in bad weather.. ugh

I'd read up in the risks of diet soda and pregnancy see how bad it is for you? If its not too bad then limit yourself to 1 a day, and if it's really bad see if there are other options? I think it's the sweetener, that it's linked to autism? IDK.. could be way off base, and it might have no bearing on pregnancy at all!

I stayed away from artificial sweeteners while pregnant (and breastfeeding for that matter). smoked salmon should be ok imho.
hard to type with babes right here today-can read ok! where is everyone?

I just read. Smoked salmon is a no no! very sad right now.

I think the caffeine and sweetener is a double no in diet soda!

too bad about the salmon- I was off fish while preggers- just couldn't take the smell!

yeah, diet soda really isn't good for anyone- you're better off without it!

Yep.. figured it was so  I just remembered, I think it's the same thing in smoked salmon that makes deli meat bad? Oh the things we have to give up while pregnant!

It's due to the listeria. Okay why are my boobs so sore! Is that normal?
Any they said no working out till March 22nd. I don't think I can do that. However, it wasn't like I was a big athlete to begin with, but sometimes I feel like it. Like right now.

if they said no working out then don't. seems my friend who went through ivf successfully was told to not even have sex as it would be too much exercise during that initial delicate period.

Yep.. NO Exercise! Your ovaries are still swollen, you can harm them if you jostle them around when they are like this. I think walking is ok, but I wouldn't push it! No speed walking!

Ya.. listeria.. same reason you can't eat deli meat.
Stay away from flavored teas too.. chamomile and other ingredients that can cause miscarriages. No sushi either. What else? Hmm... again.. anything fun is off limits!

OMG.. bad bad cramps, my back feels like it's breaking in half.

My doc said sushi is ok now, and deli meat is ok if you heat it to steaming before eating it (to kill any potential listeria)
I used to buy two packets of deli meat- one for the house (dh and dd) and one for me. I would open my package, throw it in the hot frypan a slice at a time, flip it, then store it in tupperware. NOBODY was allowed to touch it! LOL

I thought sushi or raw fish is a no no?

Pretty sure it is a no no for when you are pregnant, but it is OK I think when you are breastfeeding. I think its because there is a higher risk of you contracting Hep A and other things from eating sushi. I've always asked myself if I were living in Japan would they say the same thing?

Chantal- how did you and dh meet? My dh and I....we met, he asked me to dinner then asked me to marry him the same day :laugh2: We got married within 10 days of meeting, and that was a decade ago :cloud9: Every marriage has its ups and downs but we are the best of friends :hugs: Seems like you and your dh are close too :hugs:

Wow you ladies were chatty yesterday! I will start by answering the first post which was Coy's

Dh and I met online. He was fixing a bot for a friend of mine who had a chatroom and she thought that we would get along. So she introduced us and he asked for my phone number in Barbados. We talked for over 2 years before meeting in person in June 2005! We already knew eachother so well because we would talk for hours. I knew him better than any guys I had dated. He came to Barbados for 10 days in June 2005. He told me that I was his soulmate. Then he would visit me twice a year. We got engaged Oct 2008 and :wedding: Oct 2009.

Such a beautiful story! How are you feeling today?

Hi Ali :hi: I woke up with a headache and feeling nauseous after a protein smoothie  I think my stomach no longer likes the fruit/almond milk/protein combo..
I'm happy to hear Zoe is recuperating :happydance: Why no chocolate? Thanks for telling me. I didn't know it was bad? What about the gelatinized maca I have been putting in my smoothie? I seem to remembering googling it and they said it was ok for pregnant women. What do you think?

Still catching up on several pages of posts :haha:

Sam how are you enjoying being PUPO? I remember passing the time by crocheting a baby sweater and booties. :winkwink:I bet that acupuncture was relaxing and you must have needed it after sitting in traffic so long! Caffeine bad for you Sam . I have been drinking decaf green tea. I know it won't replace your caffeine fix but it is better for baby.

I had smoked mahi mahi in Barbados. I thought it would be ok since it wasn't raw? oops!

Not sure about maca? Some say yes, some say no. I'm not really sure what the benefits are for you now that you are indeed pregnant. It is meant as a fertility supplement to take to increase your chances. If it were me, I'd stop taking everything that wasn't expressly meant to be taken while pregnant. Like pre-natal vitamins.. GOOD, everything else.. BAD. LOL.
Chocolate has caffeine in it so that is why it is bad during pregnancy. I think once you get through your first trimester having some coffee or some chocolate is OK. I'd limit it until you have talked to your OBGYN.

Zoe is doing pretty well today, I just gave her a shot of metacam to help with the pain. She is pretty active, but when she is lying down she is making sighing noises with each breath, making me think she is in pain  The metacam should help with that. She is hiding under my desk right now, she has been pretty clingy since the operation. I decided to work from home today to be near her, and help her heal.

I'm sorta new here. 37 and trying to conceive #1. My husband has extremely low sperm count (2.5 million), due to testicular cancer. He is fine now, but fertility has been compromised. Doctors want to immediately throw IVF our way, but I'm not too keen on that. Trying to figure out if husband's fertility is recoverable, and what to do next. I debate constantly on whether to throw in the towel. Not sure how long I can do this and remain a decent level of sanity. ;-)

Welcome Melly :hi:

I am Chantal 41 and dh is 40. We have had a rough 3 years dealing with infertility. Dh diagnosed with poor :spermy: morphology after I had a miscarriage in Jan 2010. RE recommended IVF with ICSI because of dh's poor morphology. 2 cycles of Ivf and both produced poor quality embryos and BFN's. The RE recommended donor egg because I was getting close to 42 and egg quality was declining. (not covered by insurance.)

I have done alot of research on poor sperm quality and I am happy to share my tips with you:
High doses of vitamin C are very important, but a few months ago I found out that taking it with vit E actually destroys :spermy:!! I was so shocked because dh always took ALL his vitamins together after dinner. Multi(containing vit E) and the vit c! So I started giving him the Vit C seperately in the morning. He could not digest on empty stomach. So I found a superfood by Navitas called camu camu powder(vegan, organic and USDA) that has 1180% Vit C!!

After 2 months on this I got a spontaneous BFP! After the RE said it was impossible to conceive on our own without IVF. So I definately recommend vitamins for your dh first of all! Then get his sperm checked again. In the meantime it would be a good idea for you to make an appointment with a fertility specialist to also get yourself checked for fertility issues.

Here is an excellent site on ALL sperm issues:

https://sites.google.com/site/miscarriageresearch/how-to-boost-fertility/how-to-increase-male-fertility

The ladies here are very supportive and gave me excellent tips for improving my egg quality! I love them so much :hugs:

Watch out for green tea too. It has been linked to miscarriages I believe. When I was doing my research of tea a few months ago, it seemed that the safest one is decaf black tea. So that is what I went with.

Fish is fine as long as it isn't one high in mercury, but it has to be cooked! Smoking is not the same as cooking because it doesn't kill the parasites that can be in fish, nor does it kill listeria. So I would steer clear of those things while pregnant.

DO:
lean meats
whole grains
dairy (full fat)
vegetables
fruits

DON'Ts:
alcohol
smoking
caffeine (tea, coffee, chocolate)
non-natural sweeteners
deli meats
raw fish
smoked foods
herbal tea
soda
diet soda

I'm sure the list is longer than that, but it is a good start.

Welcome, Melly!
this is a great group, I'm sure you will find it a great support!

I'm Phil, 41 and just had my miracle baby in January. my dh and I were diagnosed with 'unexplained infertility' and decided to try IUI first before anything more invasive like IVF. we were lucky on our first go!
Is there a reason (other than the dr gets more $$$) that they haven't suggested IUI to you? especially in cases where the partner's sperm count is low, IUI is a viable, less costly option. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to ask!

Hi Phil,

They suggested IUI with donor sperm, which is an option. They don't believe he has enough sperm to do IUI, however, we're trying to increase those numbers, so that may be an option.

Ali the nurse yesterday phoned and asked all my medical history to prepare for first appointment with high risk OBGYN on Monday. When she asked what meds I was taking I told her baby aspirin and progesterone. She was concerned about the baby aspirin but what if I have clotting issues? I still am getting that throbbing vein in my foot when I am laying down. She asked if the pregesterone was OTC. I lied and said yes although I have been taking the prescription one for a week now because the OB refused to prescribe it. I already feel like she and I are off on the wrong foot :growlmad:
