Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Hi Ladies- Just a quick update. Af showed her face today so feeling really pissy. I'll post more when I feel better.

Awww, me TOO! I'm with you.... I was really pulling for you this month!!

Let me know if you'd like to know more about my experience with the IUI as it seemed to work pretty fast and easy for us....

Here's hoping for a bfp next month, Marathongirl!!

Welcome to the other newer ladies as well.... I've been sortof tired and down with ms, but have been stalking the forum....

GreyEyes, my cousin who is a doc recommended I take a vitamin d supplement (especially because of where we live) and so I've been doing that and I have to say the ms is so much better! might have been coincidence, but now mostly I'm just tired and grouchy, but not tired, grouchy and sick!

I hope everyone here is doing well.... hang in there and lots of baby dust to all who want and need it!!!

phil.

Ali,

Hello! Great to hear from you, too! I noticed that the price has gone down on the Clearblue Easy Digital Ovulation Test, 20 Count on Amazon. I'm thinking about going for it.

Sorry, ladies, for the double posting. I'm not sure how it happened. :dohh:

Hi Ladies- Just a quick update. Af showed her face today so feeling really pissy. I'll post more when I feel better.

:growlmad: In that case I am going to feel pissy with you :growlmad: That's what friends are for! :hugs:

When you feel better come back and we'll chat, maybe talk over some other options for you??? :friends:

Marathongirl,

I'll join you all, too. I should be starting AF Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Don't even think I ovulated this month. Never got anything more than a second faint line on the ovulation strips for three or four days.

Thinking about you. :hugs:

Georgia Belle,

My Fertility Specialist told me to use clear blue easy. He said that brand is the one he trusts the most. Have you tried that brand? It gave me a smiley face on Saturday.

Jessica,

Hi! Thank you for replying! Are you using the digital OPK? Grey Eyes has mentioned those to me, too. I really do want to try them along side the ovulation strips. I saw a pack on Amazon - Clearblue Easy Digital Ovulation Test, 20 Count. I've had them in my "Save For Later" section of my cart for a few months now. Money is really tight right now, so I've been planning on getting them when we had some extra money. I hate waiting though on something I believe is very important. :growlmad:

:hugs:

Hi GeorgiaBelle,

First, thanks for posting about the Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency, it is very useful information and you made it easy to understand!

I just wanted to put my two cents worth in and say that of all the OPK's I used the last cycle, my favourite by far was the digital Clearblue easy. It caught the surge first and I could test again to confirm.... and the smiley face was exactly how I felt!.... the FRER digital shut off when it got a positive so I couldn't confirm for peace of mind, and of the 3 FRER digitals I had, only one ever went positive, the other two never did. I also had trouble with the FRER strips but the clearblue strips were clear and easy to read for me. I know everyone on these forums seems to swear by FRER, but for OPK's and, for me, HPT's the Clearblue caught everything first.....

hope that helps,
phil

Phil,

Hi! I've been thinking about you and wondering how you and the baby were. Hope you are able to enjoy this most wonderful time in your life. :yellow:

I just ordered two Clearblue Easy Digital Ovulation Test, 20 Count kits from Amazon. The kits say it is a month's supply. Since money is tight, I'm going to see if I can make one kit stretch for two months.

I've been testing with the strips starting on the day I know my period is completely finished. This is probably overkill, but I want to make sure I catch ovulation as soon as possible. I might start using the Clear Blue Easy tests about a week after my period ends.

God Bless! :hugs:

That is a great idea...to use the two together. The Clearblue Easy Digital Ovulation Test, 20 Count is the one I use. I absolutely think you should get it. :)

I love those!! The happy face does it for me.. I got 2 days of happy faces May 7th and 8th, then got confirmation from a US on the 9th that I had just ovulated.. the CL was there in plain sight on my ovary. They are on the pricy side, but I think worth it, especially when you see that :) :) in the window!!

It's amazing how the :) in the window on the testing stick puts a :) on my face!! :)

If you are fairly sure of when you will ovulate, you can also save the other tests and use them the following month (if necessary). I only had to use 7 of my tests this past month, so I have plenty for next month.. although I hope I don't need them!

Hi ladies thanks for the support. I went to FS yesterday and he strongly recommended Femara with IUI. He said the Femara is like Clomid only better. I trust him and think I will go for it. I have nothing to lose at this point.

Good idea!! If this month isn't successful, I too will be going the IUI route. The Dr has said that he doesn't feel like I need to use fertility drugs, but I don't want to keep trying month after month, especially when it is going to cost me $625 for the IUI and another $1200 for the sperm each month. So when I see the FS next I'm going to ask him if he thinks it might be a good idea to add in Clomid or Femara or something like that.

BTW..

I was reading an article about twins, and risk factors.

Did you know that the following factors can increase your risk?

1) BMI > 30
2) Age > 35
3) Familial history of twins on either side (yours or your husbands)
4) Use of Fertility drugs
5) Assisted fertilization (IVF, IUI)

On to a further note..

I'm feeling a little less like AF is coming, in fact I just went to the bathroom and saw CM tinted pink.. 9 DPO.. def too soon for AF in all my life it has never come sooner than 29 days (and that only happened once), usually its 30-34 days.:shhh: don't want to disturb the implantation if that is what just happened..

Ooo wee! I am sending you baby dust!! :):af::bfp::dust:

Yes, if you woke up sweating and the night was overly warm that will attribute to a higher temp reading. Good luck in your TWW! And I couldn't help but obsess  lol

Why is the TWW so long? I think there should be a little bell that chimes upon inception and another upon implantation!

6DPO...

marathongirl- Go for it! Femara and IUI--I am so eager to see your bfp lady! And you are right, you have tried taking the utmost-natural path and if you need a bit of assistance go for it. A few years ago my dh and I were ttc and I couldn't get my periods back--after being ont he evil depo provera for two years then off all bc for two and a half years, still no AF  So my OBGYN recommended clomid which I used for a while. Then I used black cohosh...very soon got my AF and got my bfp just a few weeks after that. So even though I do prefer the natural way I will say to heck with all that and do what I have to do to get myself where I want to be :) You are one tough lady! Keep me (us) updated! :hugs:

I second that!! HERE HERE! I know we all want to do things the natural way and give our baby the best chance at succeeding in life, but the bottom line is that we are older and our bodies are not as fertile as we want them to be. So if you need a little help, then by all means take it. I certainly will be doing so in future cycles (if necessary). I'm still hopeful that this is my miracle month.

Marathongirl and ladies-

I am 36 now and I have to admit someo f the stuff I read online had me worried and feeling old  I was totally mind-psyched. But as I thought about it and spoke with my doc here locally I became convinced at his and dh's urging that as long as I am healthy everything will be okay. But- my doctor also urged me that if I had a concerned and wanted and was willing to try other things to aid in my fertility he would assist in whatever medical manner he could. So as I investigated I decided to use Natural Progesterone (which you are all aware by now that I used) During the time I was using it I would ocassionaly feel pangs of "does this mean I'm not woman enough" ...Being pregnant is for a woman very similar I amgine to body-building for a man--tough stuff and show it off, etc and always wanting to prove to yourself and the opposite sex that "you got it" still, etc etc....

But I quickly decided my baby was sooOOooo much more important- so I used the progesterone. I am happy now that I did. It was a "just-in-case" but had it been a "what-if" I would have been devastated.

Marathongirl. I think it is aweosme that you are willing to try other methods. Phil's success with the IUI speaks volumes! You are very courageous! :)

BTW-

Femara has been used for ovarian stimulation by fertility doctors since 2001—having fewer side-effects than Clomid and less chance of multiple gestation. A more detailed ovulation induction follow-up study found that Femara, compared with a control group of Clomid, had significantly lower congenital malformations and chromosomal abnormalities at an overall rate of 2.4% (1.2% major malformations) compared with Clomid 4.8% .

So this stuff sounds pretty promising!

AFM- feeling fatsy today :( lol. I swear my thighs have grown, even though my pants won't attest to that yet :haha:

Gender scan on the 31rst, I can't wait!!

Dh is teaching us kata starting yesterday and over the summer, I am looking forward to it. He has instructed me some but for some reason it always comes up when I am prego and can't handle the "hard knocks" so to speak (this is kendo-style karate) etc. A fun way to stay flexible and in shape :)
