Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

NYC.. Does he have an office in Garden City?

Yes, but might just be for monitoring.

Had sono last night, little bugger had fist over his face again and was kissing the cord so not a good look  No picture, no clear view of his face.

They estimated him to be 6lbs 3 oz, I'm not dilated at all and while having FHR monitored a woman was next to me having contractions every 5 min. I was like OMG she's in labor! Off to the hospital she went.

Baby has bilateral renal pyelectasis of 6mm and was 5mm last month. They say it's common in boys and usually resolves itself, but I'm still worried.

WOW! Not long now! YAY!! I bet you are getting excited :) If the Dr isn't worried then I wouldn't be either, there are so many things they can do now adays!

AFM.. WTF appointment on December 2nd. I'm not sure what the plus will be from here, I have lots of ideas, but want to hear from the FS first.

Happy Turkey week everyone!

Ali, get your arse up here for a second opinion from Cornell. If we weren't going to have a new baby in the house I'd say stay in our guest room and save $$ on a hotel. At this point I'd be like "Level with me. Is it my body? Am I unable to carry? Is it my eggs? Just tell me the truth. What have you learned from seeing the results of each protocol? Really what can be done differently at this point?" My friend was at Winthrop Hospital and she was heartbroken since 7 of her friends had success there. She went to North Shore and they told her at the 1st appt she was only a candidate for DE. She has a chromosomal issue and can't carry past 8/9 weeks. After exhausting all avenues she accepted her fate and had nothing but pure bliss to get pregnant and carry twin boys to term and have them thriving as we speak. Needless to say after all the cycles and failures and heartbreak she decided to see what another Dr had to say. I know that sometimes the monster you know is better than the one you don't, but being a cynic myself and not having success with my Lyme treatment until I switched Drs after 2yrs...I would see what either Cornell or Denver has to say. You wouldn't be starting from square 1, they can look at your protocol and how you responded and take it from there.

That's just my $.02 and that can't even get you over a bridge.

Afm, I tossed from my left side to my right while sleeping and HOLY HANNAH, did I get a rude awakening...literally. I yelled out with pain as my back spasms that felt like electrical surges emanating from my spine. They have calmed down, but I can feel my back is just not the same. If this is what back labor feels like I really have no clue how women do this sans drugs. For real. Now I'm walking gingerly and being super appreciative that 2 of my traders have been driving into the city for work so I don't have to take 3 trains and 100+ stairs up out of the subways. I have to get these guys a nice bottle of wine to thank them.

BabyW..

I'm pretty sure I have several issues to varying degrees:

1) Age, it's finally catching up to me
2) Estrogen causing an inhospitable uterus during fresh IVF
3) NK cells
4) Insulin resistance/elevated androgen levels
5) Weight

I think it's possible for me to get pregnant, and keep it. They did intensive testing on me, no chromosomal issues, receptive uterus in a FET (but unknown in a fresh IVF). The last IVF I was on a GF diet and that probably fixed my insulin resistance, but this last cycle I was eating terribly. My AMH is still high and I had a decent Antral follicle count. The quality just wasn't there this time. So I'm going to work on my insulin resistance and androgen levels to get my egg quality up. Lose some weight and transfer my frozen embryos in 3-4 months. If that doesn't work then we check levels get second opinions and see what shakes out. I'm considering embryo donation if we can't do another IVF.

I hope the back labor subsides! Sounds horrible. or maybe little baby is starting to make his appearance? Can't wait to hear/see the little tyke!

I think you have a great plan Alicatt- I think I'm going to join in your plan. I went on a carb overload yesterday, like it was the last day on earth. I hadn't really been eating bad for a while.

So I spent the entire day researching a new clinic, although I have seen Dr. Palter at Gold Coast and he's all set up to go and I have an appointment with Cornell. I am going to exhaust every possible opinion. So I did some research and the new SART numbers are out. I have included the list for the top clinics in the United States.

https://fertilitysuccessrates.com/report/United-States/women-38-40/data.html

I'm a little disappointed that Cornell is not on it. Very disappointed. Dr. Palter is on the top 25 in the US..for my age group, so we shall see. When I click on top rates in New Yor, k Dr. Palter is number one and my doctor is number 5, Cornell is number 6. I'm still going to seek an appointment with Dr. Spandorfer. I think Babyw is right. I also reviewed all the other top clinics in the nation starting from one, because of am considering going out of town. Reproductive Medical Associates in Texas didn't impress, my age group success is too small too travel. I'm afraid to go to Alabama. Oregon interested me, but they don't take my insurance. So I landed on Conception of Colorado. I like their cancellation rates, which are low and their live birth rate is 50 percent! Their rates are higher than CCRM. I may consider calling them for a consult also. On another note, I did email Dr. Sher from SIRM and he responded that I definitely should investigate immune issues which effect implantation 50 percent of the time. I cannot believe that I had crappy eggs 3x. I'm starting to wonder if I have implantation issues.

My doc is on vacation by you Alicatt, maybe you'll run into him. He called me while on vacation and he sounded worse than me. He was terribly sorry.
Thoughts ladies? Sorry for the rant... but I just had to get it out

This is a very sound plan. Anything to get a hold of insulin and weight will be a change for the better and not just for getting a bfp. I will say that when I lost the most weight I was lifting weights 3x/week and doing cardio 2-3x/week. Nothing got me in better shape faster than lifting weights. It's like a shock & awe campaign against your body and nervous system that you constantly change every 8-10 weeks. That's one thing I hope to get back to after baby so I hope I can do this naturally. I wasn't in the best shape when I got prego so I will have my work cut out for me.

My back is so much better, especially if I keep off my feet when I can. Sunday being on my feet for 7 hrs was not a great idea but there was much to be done. Baby is getting big, he likes to move under my right rib and push out, when dh talks he moves so much and pushes out that my stomach can move up 2-3 inches where he's pushing.

I got to see my 93 yr old Grandmother who is in from SC last night. She's made 2 blankets and 2 hats for the baby. My parents got me a massage and facial for my bday and I left for work w/ dh singing Happy Birthday before he rolled over and went back to sleep. Feeling very loved and blessed. I hope my real gift comes in 3 weeks!! I still can't wrap my head around the fact that he will be in my arms soon and what that will feel like.

How are you ladies doing? I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with their families!

Here is my $.02 on the whole ratings thing. I was told by my uncle an obgyn that the scores are sometimes not a true picture. I know North Shore was intently focused on their scores, hence the hard sell to push me to IVF right away to ensure the most chances of success. They really tried to persuade me from even trying IUI. Cornell sees way more people than some of the higher ranked practices. The cross section of people as far as backgrounds and age is tremendous. They don't just push you to what will keep their scores high, they treat you the way they think will work especially if you don't want to go right into the most invasive and expensive protocol.

St Francis Hospital a cardiac center near us is the same way. They will not operate on you unless you have a high % of making it because they want to keep their 98.6% success rate where it is. When you ask other doctors they really tell you what goes on behind the scenes.

I am so sorry and I'm sure you're sick of hearing it, feeling disappointment, and it may be hard to hold onto to hope but you should. See what the other opinions are and have faith that it will happen. Don't give up. I will say a prayer. :hugs:

Babywhisperer- I agree with you. That's why I have an appointment with Dr. Spandorfer the end of January. Since I have so much time in between I am seeing Dr. Palter, maybe he will find out something I didn't know before that appointment. I am seeing them tomorrow, for initial bloodwork and sono. I am not starting a cycle, we are doing some in depth testing. If I can do a cycle with him end of December into January, my appointment with Dr. Spandorfer will be perfectly timed. We shall see. I've prepared myself with a plan every step of the way, in case I am not successful.

I can't believe you are due in 3 weeks. It feels like the 9 months went by so quickly. You are so blessed, enjoy every second of it. Can't wait until delivery!

Hi, can I join?

I am nearly 41, my husband is 38. We have 6 children - eldest 18 and youngest 7 and over the past 4 years we have had 5 losses - 1st 6 wks, 2nd 4+5, 3rd 20+5, 4th 14+6 and 5th 6+2. After my last loss xmas 2011 we decided to not try again but over the past few months that yearning has come back and after having several discussions with my dh we have decided to try again (yippee!!!!).

We've decided to wait until January to try as it gives me a month to lose a little extra weight and also to visit the gp to change my blood pressure meds from Ramipril to Labetalol. Currently, due to the meds my BP is under control - which I know in my pregnancies with the mc's it wasn't - they started me on Labetalol after my bfp rather than before.. I am also diabetic and I take 2000mg of Metformin daily - I have since heard that Metformin is good for raising progesterone and preventing mc's?? I know that in the pregnancy with my 4th mc I had raised sugar levels at all my appointments and nobody battered an eyelid. Then after my 5th mc I was finally tested for diabetes and I was.. So could the undetected diabetes of contributed towards my losses?

As I mentioned its going to be January before we 'Officially' try.. but I hope you don't mind me sticking around before that?

Sounds like you have all your bases covered. Don't forget to meditate or find some ways to relax. And also try to be as toxin free as you can. I've been reading a lot about how toxins can affect fertility. It's impossible in this day and age to avoid all, but there are steps we can make to reduce what we come into contact with. I really hope to see good news posts from you, Ali and Chantal in the new year.

The 9mos did go pretty fast, but then again we had so much going on it was bound to. My EDD is in 3 weeks but with the new definition of "full term" I hope I don't go too long past the 19th. Ideally I would love to be home by Christmas with the baby, but he will come when he comes. In the meantime I washed all the linens, set them up in the crib, washed a few clothes and blankets, and set up the mobile. I'm eating 6 dates a day based on some obscure study (figured it can't hurt as it helps digestion), drinking red raspberry leaf tea, and at 38 weeks I may try EPO and Acupuncture. My back is sensitive now if I stand too long which sucks bc I still have some organizing to do and we are having a dinner party on Saturday that I'm cooking for. It's just 6 of us so it won't be too much work. I'm just hoping dh doesn't invite anyone else like one of his brothers and his fiancé bc they usually don't accept invites to hang out, but with the group of people coming, food and wine they are more likely to accept. I love them don't get me wrong, but they live in the same town, never offered to help us move 6 weeks ago, and have never sent an email or text to ask how I'm doing, oh yeah and the fiancé didnt come to the shower. She said my brother-in-law surprised her with a day trip for her bday which was the day before. Needless to say everyone including dh felt it was odd especially since I told her long before invites went out exactly when the shower would be. I'm done extending myself to people who don't appreciate or reciprocate. I just gave her all my size 4 yoga pants and some clothes with tags still on since it is unlikely I will be a 4 anytime soon and it was taking up space. There are only so many times I can invite someone to do things when they always say no. They are just hermits and don't do much outside themselves. So maybe it's wrong of me to not want to invite them, but they would really only be coming over to see our guests who they are also friends with, and I don't need to shop, prep, cook and clean for people who blow us off all the time. It's funny how 2 brothers can be so different. Dh is very social and loves having people over, his brother is like a shut in.

On a lighter note, my 93 yr old grandmother flew up from SC and made 2 blankets and hats for the baby. She is one talented woman. She can sew, knit, crochet practically anything.

Well off to bed, my nap has turned me into a night owl tonight. I'm laying in bed feeling period like cramps while dh snores so loud he might rip the paint off the walls. I wish I could sleep like him.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families. I truly have a lot to be thankful for and you ladies have made this year so much easier with your support. I'm praying hard for all of you. Stay positive and have faith.

Hi Ladies..

Been MIA for a few weeks.. finally figured out what was causing my migraines. So hopefully starting tomorrow I'll start feeling better.

BabyW.. any day now! Have you any updates? Will the little guy come early?

Mum2Beth.. welcome! I've heard that metformin can help with improving fertility so hopefully it does for you!

What's causing the migraines?? I hope you feel better, they are the worst!!

Had my 38 week appt on Thurs, they estimate baby to be 7lbs 5oz and all looks good with the exception of bilateral renal pyelectasis which they say is very common in boys and usually resolves after birth. Baby will just need a sono after birth. I've been having cramps and shooting nerve pain in the front down low but it's just baby hitting some nerves. He's only dropped a little. I'm not effaced or dilated, but cervix is soft and anterior. No clue when he will come, some women don't efface or dilate until labor so who knows. I just hope I'm not sitting here in 3 weeks talking induction or c section. All the friends I've been prego with have gone 1-2 weeks early with their first so I'm feeling left behind. They also have spared no details about labor and they haven't been positive stories. Yikes!

So I'm just trying to keep busy for now. I will say I'm making people nervous at work! I had a sharp shooting pain in my pelvis and I jumped up from the trading desk and yelled ouch. I freaked everyone out. It was pretty funny.

How is everyone? How was Thanksgiving? Ali, Chantal, Sams? What's next for you lovelies?

Angel and Phil how's the babes??

Okay ladies it's been a while

Babywhisperer- Is the baby here yet!???

Chantal- How are you doing? What is going on with you?

Ali- How are you feeling? Did the migraines subside..

Coy- Miss you

I have a bit of an update. I went for my second opinion and it seems that it is my eggs. He says my eggs are of that of a 41 - 42 year old. It won't be impossible to conceive, but difficult. So that never stopped me before. A couple of things I need to address. My glucose. He won't do a cycle without getting the glucose down. Means no carbs for a while. He suggested that I start DHEA and go off all other supplements, ie Maca, royal jelly, coq10. He also suggested that I may want to consider HGH. I have to think about that one, but I will start a new protocol a Micro Lupron Flare. (like you Ali) I need to improve my egg quality, which is usually not possible..but I'll try whatever I need to try. I'm aiming for the end of January! Hopefully, I can get my glucose to where it needs to be.

Hey Sams! This thread has slowed down so much where is everyone? I'm happy to hear there is a new protocol. Cutting carbs isn't easy but it is possible. Look into Julian Bakery for paleo bread and wraps, they are low carb. Stay hydrated as cutting carbs can constipate you. Maybe get the South Beach book for recipes. How are you feeling otherwise?

Ali what's going on with the migraines? What's causing them???

Afm, nope no baby yet. I'm impatient but feeling better this week. From last Tues to Sat I was miserable and in pain with my back and pelvis. Then I woke up Sunday and there was no pain, no fatigue and I had such crazy energy and motivation. I food shopped, did laundry, all my shower Thank You notes there were over 50! I organized a closet, ran errands and made a nice dinner. I could have kept on going too! We had snow and icky weather so I worked from home but went back in the last 2 days. I have been for 2 acupuncture sessions to try and get things moving. I don't want to be in a position of a low Bishop score if they need to induce bc that will mean higher odds of c section. I may be soft and anterior, but I need to be effaced and dilated somewhat and have baby engaged to increase my odds of having a vaginal birth if induced. Some women go from 0 to go time and drop, efface and dilate right into active labor, but I don't want to take any chances.

So besides some discharge, af like cramps, I got nothing going on. I will know more tomorrow morning at my next appt.

How is everyone else? Any fun holiday plans? Looks like we are getting another storm this weekend here. Someone actually tried to tell me a change in barometric pressure can trigger labor. Well what happened to Mon/Tues storms?? Then someone I work with whose wife is a nurse said the full moon is the 17th and the L&D ward is always packed on full moons. My thing is, if my body and baby isn't ready nothing will induce me. Maybe they have my due date too early. Originally it was the 22nd so who knows when he will come. All I want is a healthy baby and for you ladies to get your bfps !!!!

Hi Ladies..

Headaches are still here.. I do have a diagnosis though. I have something called a chiari malformation type 1 if you want to look it up. So long story short my dream of being a mom is on hold for now (temporary) while I get a specialists opinion and figure out where to go from here. I really only have 2 options deal with the pain and progressive debilitation or have brain surgery. Neither option sounds good to me! UGH! I'm meeting with a neurosurgeon that specializes in chiari malformations and I'm hoping to get further tests and more information about it and my options. It's so bizarre because I've had funky symptoms that I never knew were due to this chiari malformation, like sleep apnea, insomnia, fatigue, hoarse throat, balance issues, of course the headache, concentration issues, memory problems, neck pain, nausea, there are a lot of symptoms I don't have and some of these I've only just started having in the past month or so. I guess the more recent ones could be due to the debilitating migraine.

Sams.. I'd give this Dr's plan a try. Blood sugars and insulin do play a role in hormones. So getting that under control is a good plan. The Lupron flare is also known to help speed up the cycle so we won't stim as long. That will also improve your egg quality, so my FS says.

BabyW.. glad the pain is gone! I don't know much about the things you are talking about but yes vaginal is best! I read somewhere that it transfers beneficial bacteria to the baby. Amazing! Wishing you a speedy and safe delivery and a healthy little boy!

Hi Ladies..

Headaches are still here.. I do have a diagnosis though. I have something called a chiari malformation type 1 if you want to look it up. So long story short my dream of being a mom is on hold for now (temporary) while I get a specialists opinion and figure out where to go from here. I'm so sorry to hear this, but maybe it's a welcome relief to you to know what's causing all of these ailments. I've never heard of this but it sounds like a crappy way to live life. You're such a vibrant person I can only imagine what you'd be like if this wasn't plaguing you right now.

What else can they do to treat this?
