Has anyone had the mumps? What does it start out like (symptoms)?

I had the mumps when I was about 10 or 11, all I can remember is the agonising sore throat and fever I think. At one point the mumps were so bad and my throat was so swollen my breathing was constricted. I was in agnoy and really thought I was going to get REALLY ill, like die . It was horrible, definitely the worst childhood illness I had.

I need to quit doing so much research. It can be down right depressing at times. I just read on a website that it is virtually impossible to get pregnant if you have sex after you get a positive OPK. Well, shoot! Then why am I spending so much money every month on these OPK tests?

I test twice a day and I got a positive last night. Well, I can't BD until tonight. This is exactly how it happened last month and we did not get pregnant. So, we might have missed this month too. This is so frustrating!!

And what about getting the positive OPK Thursday night, Friday morning, and Friday night? What does that mean? This sucks! I just want a baby!! I don't want to do all of this guessing and figuring!!!

Jess! Don't get depressed. That is somewhat true, but not totally. Some women, especially as we age, struggle a little more to ovulate, so we may see a surge for a few days. That means that you still have time!

The thing is that OPKs are really only helpful in learning your cycle, and will help you for future cycles. Here is a calculator that is going to help you out!

If you are regular it will be easier to use, it basically shows you when to start and when to stop. You just need to know your cycle length, longest/shortest and your LP length. Then you can target the days you should be having So take a look at your past cycles to determine your LP length. I think we've discussed that yours is a little shorter than it should be, but enter that, and your LMP start date, and your cycle information and see what it says. It errs on the side of caution and gives you a large window in order to make sure you hit your window no matter if you are off by a day or 2 on when you are ovulating. I tested it for my current cycle and it suggests 5 times in a 10 day period. I know that sounds like a lot, but it is spread out! If you do this, then there is no way you can miss the window (well unless you have some crazy cycle and you ovulate 10 days later than you normally do). It is a recipe for success!

Jess, I have to disagree to be honest. A positive OPK is detecting the LH surge which triggers the ovary to release the egg, the time between the surge starting and your body ovulating can be 12-36 hours later. Therefore to say that you have already ovulated when you get a positive OPK is wrong. Most advice says that you will ovulate 12-36 hours after your first positive OPK.

I find that research really weird, so keep hope and get tonight

I agree! I think that once you see the negative, you are pretty much done for the cycle. You can the day you see the negative and one more day, but then that is it. Unless you are one of those people that get the double surge? AHH.. bodies are so totally frustrating! It is like babies. As soon as you figure them out they change! That is why I prefer the calendar approach. It is way easier to use, and much less stressful, you need to OPK, but only to gather data for future months, and other than BBTing to see the temp spike after ovulation, you don't need to do for that particular cycle either! Just figure out your fertile window, and make sure you have every other day during that time. How hard is that?

Ouch! That sounds horrible! It sounds like the constriction on your throat to the point that you were not breathing well is the biggest concern, well that and really high temperatures.

Coy - I would definitely watch the kiddies for fever and ability to breathe.

BBT works well if you are consistent in your sleep patterns. The only thing consistent about my sleep patterns is that I am consistently inconsistent!

Jess- take it from me 'cause I'm "older"lol and, like all the ladies on here, I have been in your ttc shoes. K. First off that's crap about not getting preggo if you bd the day of positive OPK. This is what dh and I did....once about 4-5 days before, then the evening of. What happens is when you get the positive this signals the egg to relese. So is traveling up while egg is traveling down. Period. Fast sperm (boy sperm) will get there first, OR girl sperm from before will be waiting. According to your chart you bd'd on the 17th in the morning (maximum perfect time for strong swimmers) and that was only 5 days ago give or take a few hours. So relax- I'd say chances of having girl sperms laying in wait are excellent! Plus whatever to come??? Re:multiple positives- just means a long strong surge, I get those too.

Ali- thanks! Yes, I have been watching the whole damned house for fevers and ability to breath lol! Aargh! Ay ay ay, I am going nuts, lol.... anyway, no trouble breathing except dd's snore at night from the swollen tonsil. T by far has been the worst, but she's on antiobiotic, so... Def I have been praying for them, God can fix anything!

I do! I do! I think it would be hilarious if a snow storm hit South FL! I would be out there in my AWD with my heated seats driving places and at all the people that can't drive. Now that would be something to watch!

If we got measurable snow, I would go out and help the neighborhood children build as well. Now that would be fun!

Instead it will be 80+ degrees this weekend. I can't complain I'm supposed to be taking it easy this weekend and already I have things lined up for tomorrow:

1) Take car in for service (stupid sensor is freaking out, but its covered by warranty)
2) Go to Lowe's and finalize the flooring deal
3) Give my doggies a bath and a blow dry

So much for sleeping and resting all weekend! At least Bunco was moved to next weekend, so I can stay in and watch movies and vegetate!

Oh - and I got my E2 results from the blood they drew this morning. My E2 level is already 693! That is crazy high. ARGH why on earth are they making me double my shot on Monday? A normal woman would have an E2 of 200-600 at time of ovulation, and mine is already past that and I'm only on CD7! I just have to hope that my FS knows what he is doing!

Hello everyone- Sorry I was MIA ... I'm frustrated, upset and annoyed

So yesterday I followed up with FS about my drugs that they ordered. Well I got the standard... Did you call Medco to see where they are and we will have to get you some drugs until you get your entire order. I knew that AF was coming, so I asked where do I call (cause I know that when you call on the weekends you get a service).

Well, I called Medco...guess what? They hadn't even processed my order. So my FS placed the order, but they forgot to submit authorization from the doctor for the meds...so they were PENDING. Guess who came at 5pm? And who became a ME.

So I called the clinic...at 5pm..guess what? They said call back tomorrow? Tomorrow really? Tomorrow is Day 2... I have no meds... So guess what the did? Called Medco... cancelled my order! I'm not calling the clinic in the am and I'm finding a new place. I sent a scathing email to them! Really? We have set this up for 2 months! Careless..Careless...Careless...

I guess no 2013 baby for me

I'm very sad... very sad.... because I wont be able to do this again until May.

I know you are upset, but you can still do it this month. My FS office fronted me meds all the time! They always have extras for this exact reason. In some cases they had to front me $700 worth of drugs, because they increased my dosage and I didn't have the meds, and like you it was a weekend. So call the clinic in the morning, they'll probably ask you to drop by and will give you the meds you need. I know you are upset, and rightly so since they screwed up, but don't lose out on a cycle! Not unless you are really upset with them in general. I've had to run circles to get my meds, believe me I know how frustrating it can be. The Dr sends it in but then forgets to sign it, or the pharmacy sits on it for a week not sending it, or they don't tell you that an item is back ordered. I've had all sorts of issues! You just have to keep on them, I should have warned you about this, as I've had some very stressful situations when it comes to the meds. I don't think it is entirely your FS's fault, as this is common.

See what they are willing to do to get you moving this month, if you decide that is what you want to do. They should be helpful and front you the meds that you need. If they aren't able to do this, then by all means look elsewhere!

This is now the 2nd time they have screwed up. I was supposed to start in January with IUI. You guys have been with me from the beginning. I started before thanksgiving...by January they hadn't even looked at my chart.

I have emailed them.. they have so dropped the ball, that my doctor is now ccd on all my emails and the head nurse responds. So you can imagine my surprise when I called and they didn't have the authorizations. The head nurse also doesn't pay attention because I have emailed them numerous times that AF was coming February 23rd and she just gives canned responses. Like a robot. I cancelled my prescription order. I was so frustrated. You think I should give them a chance? My husband says everything is for a reason.

Just putting my 2 cents worth in.... everyone is right- the opk simply indicates your lh surge which has to happen 'before' ovulation can occur. ovulation will happen 24-36 hours after the surge starts. with the IUI procedure I was told to check my opk's between 10am and 2pm for most accurate results. when I got my positive, I went in the NEXT day for the procedure.... so bd'ing the day after is fine IMHO....

I will say this about my experience with FS, and with Dr's in general.

1) Squeaky wheel gets the oil - so the more you call and harass them the more attention you will get. My FS knows me, but he doesn't remember what my protocol is or what we are doing until he reviews the chart. So unless I call and ask a question, then they don't do anything. Or unless I go in for an appointment.
2) Second guess everything - Dr's are human and make mistakes all the time. Not big ones, but little ones. So if something isn't done in the timeframe you were given then it is on you to follow up.
3) If you don't like what they are saying then you need to say so and ask questions as to why they are doing it that way. If you don't then they assume you are on board with their decision. Plus they aren't going to explain something unless you question it. I guess some will, but in my experience most of them are over booked and over worked and the faster they move on to the next patient the faster they can go golfing (or whatever they do).

Not that any of their mistakes are your fault. They aren't, they are 100% theirs. I'm just suggesting that you change your perspective a little bit. The system sucks, and its broken, but there isn't anything we can do about that. What we can do is work within it to get what we need. It sucks, but that is what I have learned.

So yes, I think you should look into another FS office, maybe the one that BabyWhisperer is going to? When you do, you'll have to take a greater role in how things play out. If you don't I fear you will have the same results.

I had been in contact with them every week. My last contact was Monday with my nurse and we were set to go... she said I would get my meds and I followed up 4 days later when I didn't get them. I keep following up with them... I don't have the stamina to beg for them to do their work.

The only time I got somewhere was when I emailed the doctor or saw him. I have seen him 5 times, sometimes just to talk to get this going. He gives me instructions, I do my part and they don't do theirs. If this is how all clinics operate, then I don't think I have the time or energy for IVF and I guess it is not for me. It is too stressful... and frankly some people probably dont have babies because of the stress they put their patients through. Babywhisperer's doctor is a bit far out for me. I would have to take a leave from work and that is not possible. So I guess its not happening for me.
