What a immature inconsiderate *******!!!

Well from what I have read on here durng my time, I felt saying they will not remove a child from a home because they smoke pot was needed. People have been called abusers for ever less sadly... when worse goes on everywhere.
The main reason we have SS/SD is to help and protect children/parents/everyone. Not to judge.

We are allowed to think that drugs and children dont mix, it doesnt make us evil.

I never called anyone disgusting or a terrible parent, all i did say is that i think its irresponsible. You never know what could happen and u need to be on the ball.

Anywho this is going round in circles, do as u please. I dont doubt that any of u are good parents :) I just dont agree with taking drugs whilst you are looking after children, i dont think that is that far fetched is it?

I haven't read every single post, I will go back and do that in a min, but I have the general gist of the thread.

To the OP - I would be pissed off to. I would be pissed off with the general lack of consideration he is showing towards you. I guess all you can do is tell him how it has upset you, why it has, and hope that he takes it on board!

In regards to the cannabis issue - I am of the opinion that it is over-reacted to as a substance. You go down the police station at 2am on a Friday night and the majority of people who have been arrested due to drunk and disorderly, fighting in the streets, domestic violence etc have committed crimes under the influence of alcohol. Same as, if you pay a visit to the local A&E, many many more people under the influence of alcohol will be there as opposed to cannabis. Far more of our taxes go on sorting out people affected by alcohol than cannabis - the police time that's wasted, rehabilitation, nurses and doctors time etc. For me, alcohol is a FAR more deadly and dangerous substance, yet it's completely legal... and the reason why? In my opinion it is because the government can easily tax it, they make a lot of money from taxing it, and to legalize cannabis would be too costly, they wouldn't be able to regulate it as it's something you can grow in your upstairs bedroom, there'd still be people growing their own and buying it illegally for cheaper so it's just not an option for them. If they could overcome these things I'm sure they'd legalize it!

Just my two pennies worth, please don't jump on me!

 Couldn't agree more...

Rude and mocking posts and behavior is what I am referring to.

Just my two pence worth (I already offered Lydia advice).

My Oh smokes grass. He has done since he was a teenager. I have never had an issue with it, as long as it isnt done around our daughter. He would never be alone with her trhough the night therefore if there was an accident (God forbid) I would always be there. In saying that though I don't think he would be incapable of looking after her. Knowing him and knowing how he is when he has had a smoke means I know that he would be ok.

In the past I have smoked but havent since being pregnant/BF etc. I dont think I ever will again, through personal choice.

I would rather my OH had a few joints than a few drinks. Personal experience has taught me that alcohol abuse is sooo much worse. My dad died through alcohol at 42, never met his grandaughter and I'll always be very sad about that. My ex was a verging alcoholic and he was nasty and vile on even 1 or 2 drinks. Alcohol is a legal evil and can turn someone into a total idiot! In my experience grass has never done that. There was a time I smoked when I had been drinking and was really ill but I blame the drink!!

I'm sorry to those who's friends/themselves have had bad experiences. Like everything in life nothing is 100% guaranteed.

Just wanna add something on the whole social services thing. A very good friend of mine is a social worker. She does NOT agree with me smoking weed but she also knows it not as bad as people make out. I went thru a bit of shit with fob's sister, threatening to phone social services on me for smoking it, extremely hypocritical as her brother smokes it too. Anyway i asked my social worker friend what would happen if she did ring them. She said they have far more worrying thngs to deal with, ie abuse, heroin users unable to care for their children, getting beaten allsorts of things, i cringe when she tells me some things. She has to remove babies at birth in some circumstances. Anyway she said that anyone who was repoted for smokng cannabis alone would not be an issue to them, it is if it as affecting their capabilities as a parent or putting child at risk that would concern them. She said if social services came to my home, they would see that i am more than capable of looking after my son therefore it would not be in his best interest to remove a child just cos they enjoy a joint. Hope that comes out right and like i said, my friend does not agree with it, but yet she doesn't judge either as she knows smoking cannabis doesn't affect how good a mum i am xxx

As I have stated in other threads on this topic, I think a large number of Canadians smoke or have tried it, and I have NEVER heard of anyone having a horrible reaction. If you do, it is laced. I am not going to change my mind on this, because probably every single person I know under 60 has smoked it once in their life. These are NORMAL people, not potheads. Hell, even the police I know, have smoked it. People who work in social work, have smoked it.

I don't agree with someone smoking with their kids present, but if one parent smokes it, I have no problem. Or if the kids are in bed. To me, it is not a huge risk like drinking. It's like smoking a cigarette.

The post about the person killing themself...obviously that person had a mental illness. And the weed didn't kill the person, the absence of it did, because they were probably self - medicating with it. I have a good friend with Aspergers. His brain LITERALLY does not stop. He doesn't sleep unless he smokes it. A lot of time, people with mental illnesses (which does not make them BAD horrible people, they can be any one of us) are prescribed the same meds as joe blow down the street, and they DON'T work. Weed has been proven to work with a lot of these people.

Might I add I am making an assumption here but Canadians seem to be more laid back, understanding, non competitive, and open about a lot of things, including marijuana.
Not saying all are, but in general.
I really don't like feeling like I should include a disclaimer with my posts, so they aren't misunderstood or misread :(

Hahaha I am actually Canadian, you might be on to something!

I was totally about to argue you on this, but then I couldn't think of a single person I know who hasn't at least tried it.

i'm canadian to and also don't see the issue :D agreeing that a couple people may be on to something with that ;)

Yup, us Canadians are pretty open-minded with our views on weed (amongst other things). It would probably be legal here if we weren't attached to the ultra-conservative US.

funny story.
when I was 16 i got arrested for possesion of marijuana, even though i don't smoke it. OHs friend had some in the car, and they pulled us over to question us about a break it that'd just happened .. we drove by just around the same time as the people were running away.

the police dogs were with them and smelt it out and we all got arrested.

The police station by my house is really small and only had two holding cells, so OH was in one, his friend in the other .. and they hand cuffed me to a chair!
The police officer did share her mc donalds with me though! and I never endedu p getting in trouble.

Now whenever I mention OHs friend my mom says "oh that nice boy with all the marijuana? he's a sweet heart"

 at your mum xmnd!

Some of my eariest memories of my (Canadian) dad is him smoking spliffs with rastafarians at Notting Hil Carnival! (Its his bday today. He would have been 52 :()

aww loudandivy :(

my dad smokes too but i never knew untill i was older .. i found some in the basement when i was like 12 and had no clue what it was so i brought it to school so i could show it to people and ask!

OMG! If you had done that in England you probably would have been thrown into juvey

 i just asked other kids, not teachers or anything haha!
its pretty hard to get anythign worse than a "curfew" here anyways when you're still a minor

Lol xmnd1! When I was a kid a neighbour reported my parents to the cops because they saw a couple plants growing in our backyard. I answered the door when the cops showed up (I was 8 or 9) and all that happened was they took the two plants that were obvious and told her to keep any others growing out of sight. I've also smoked weed with cops at parties before. Now they don't have to worry about it if the cops come because my Dad has his license for medicinal marijuana (he has horrible arthritis).

my dad smokes it for his arthritis as well! but i think he's done it his whole life TBH.

Theres a cop down here whose quite the erm .. character.
He's known but all the "young people" because his girlfriend is 18, he's been with her since she was 16 , and he just recently had a baby with her.

He would show up at house parties when I was in highschool going "WHERES MY GF? IS SHE HERE?" and look all around the party .. see her, say hello and whatever, then say "oh yeah and um ... be quiet! the neighbours are mad!" .. then he'd come back when his shift was over and get drunk and smoke weed with everyone!

it's next to impossible to take him seriously though about anything so he really hasn't made a good name for himself as far as being a "respectible" cop

going to ask for this thread to be removed as its gone tottally OT thats absoutly fine if you think im rude and narrow minded! i couldnt care less its the INTERNET :) im far far from it.

Im not anti weed im just anti smoking it around or being high around children . . . Ad personally i think the way the made me FEEL was horrendous and not for me.
