I think it is highly innappropriate to smoke illegal drugs everyday whilst in the care of a child. It is illegal for a reason. Same as i dont believe someone who is drunk can take care of a child properly, or someone who is in any way inebriated.

I dont care what it helps people deal with. Its dangerous to you and your child, and that is irresponsible.

Just my opinion but you say smoking pot is illegal for a reason,so how come alcohol isnt? you are far more out of control with alcohol than pot? i dont think just cause its illegal thats right i wouldn't trust every thing the authorities do or say. imho x

I grew up with pothead parents. Did it make them worse parents? Nope. Were they lazy people with no work ethic? Nope. Dad managed a bank and mom worked for Revenue Canada (they process all of the taxes for Canada). Did I miss out on anything as a result? Nope. My brother and I were in all kinds of extra-curricular activities that both of our parents always came to watch. They played with us (more than alot of my friends parents did). We always ate dinner as a family, went on picnics, vacation, etc. They made sure we did our homework and both my brother and I got good grades. We understoon our parents smoked weed at a young age too and it didn't affect us badly. We're both in our 30's now with kids of our own.

Saying all that, I used to smoke alot of weed (I didn't start until I was almost 19, I didn't feel the need to try it sooner like some of my friends since it wasn't taboo for me). I still smoke the occasional joint now. Generally it's when I'm out to my Sunday night poker league and Clara's home getting in some Daddy time. I have smoked (outside) after Clara's gone to bed on the odd occasion too (New Year's Eve for example). Do I think it makes me a bad parent? Nope. Do I care what other people will think of me for admitting this? Nope.

Can I just ask if your LO wakes up to be fed at night? I would love to have a spliff once Ivys in bed but she still wants to be fed every four hours and I'm worried about passing it through the breastmilk!

Clara rarely does, but I usually have ebm in the freezer that she could have if it happened. If I didn't bf I would probably smoke more often lol.

havent read through all the comments all i know is what dan did last night was totally immature and iresponsible and in no way do i agree with im being under the influence of cannabis around a 4 month old baby i dont really give a shit about all this oh alcohol is more dangerous yes maybe to some people certainly not for me and can i add i wouldnt agree with him being drunk in the same circumstance either,also on radio 1 yesterday they were talking about a new study of 2000 people and found it DOES cause mental health problems somtimes severe like in my case.

anyway no point having a cannabis debate my minds made up totally im afraid!

Wow.. better add me to the Bad Mother Brigade, lol, I smoke every night for insomnia after my son is in bed. Never while he is awake and never during the day, but I still smoke it and my son is still in my care whilst asleep. I am still capable of settling him, making bottles, changing him, etc. If I was falling down drunk, which is legal, I certainly wouldn't be.
I didn't smoke while BFing, I went a whole year without even thinking about it, and didn't touch it again until the night before LO's birthday. If it really is so addictive I couldn't have gone a year between smokes. I had no trouble whatsoever giving weed up. Yet I have tried time and again to kick cigarettes and failed time and again. I know which habit I would rather have-- I don't want to smoke cigarettes and would love to be able to quit like I did with weed. Yet cigarettes are legal and one of the most addictive substances along with alcohol (which I don't like, I don't drink and have seen far worse things come of drinking than smoking spliffs.)
I realise I am probably going to be asked questions. That's cool, but I don't want to be called disgusting or anything like that either I think RinnaRoo and other PPs who admit they smoke/have smoked occasionally are very brave coming into this thread and standing up for themselves, which prompted me to do the same, I can't believe some of the judgement on this thread

This isn't about weed - it wouldn't matter to me whether OH rolling in stoned, pissed or 3 hours late coz he'd been with his mates - it's all equates to selfishness! yep, i like to have a joint when LO has gone to bed, not in the house may i add. I dont drink unless its a special occasion like christmas or something but i do enjoy a smoke, i have smoked it for 15 years and i am still a great mum xxx
