I got my B.S. in Earth & Environmental Science. Right out of college I became an environmental scientist, and now I'm working for a very large company as the environmental specialist for the Los Angeles area.
Im looking into marine biology and the first year covers environmental sciences too. There just aren't many potential jobs after here :/
What is it that you want to do?
To be perfectly honest, marine biology is a very low paying, small career choice field. :/ So sorry to say that.
I had a few people who worked with me that were in the same company, doing the same thing as me and they had marine biology degrees. They were obviously not happy since that's not exactly the field they wanted to be in. I mean, I love it, but if that's not what you wanted to do then of course you'll be disappointed.
I'm also a scuba diver (open water, advanced and rescue certified). So I went back for my M.S. in Marine Biology. I did one semester and realized that I didn't want to work in that field. That's not to say its bad for everyone, but hey, I'll admit it, I like money. lol And I didn't want to be doing a physically demanding, low paying job forever. And to get into research, you need to go for your PhD which I never wanted to do.
So I'll be going back for my M.S. in Environmental Science and do an emphasis on the regulatory side. I ultimately want to work for the government.
I figured I'll have the best of both worlds - my hobby will be marine biology and my career will be environmental science. Not too shabby.
PM me anytime if you have questions. I've worked in the major groups: consulting and owner-operator (i.e. gas companies, electrical companies, water & power). The only other entity I haven't worked for is government. But that's on the horizon.
