I havent been out for more than 4 hours yet so didn't need to take any bottles with me but just wondering what you all do? Esp when its not possible to heat up the bottle. Do you make it before you go?

We either take the Aptimal ready made cartons with us and just put the empty sterilised bottles in the bag, or if we are going round friends/grandparents, we sometimes might take the box of powder with us, with the bottles with the water already in them so we just add the powder when needed.

Hope that helps x

I'v bought an Advent bottle bag that keeps bottle warm for up to 4hrs and carry the right amount of powder with me to mix it there about £7 in asda and were £14 in boots  you can also carry hot food and cold drinks in them for when LO get bigger

We do this too  but instead of taking the box we bought some Tommee Tippee powder holders and pop the powder in there.

Why is it better to add the powder just before feeding? Esp if the water has gone cold?

Yep, this is what we do :)

That's just the way we've always done it. If you prefer making up the bottle with hot water you could take a flask along and make it up as and when.

I sterilise some bottles and make them up with cooled boiled water. I found these really cool powder storage pots for our bottles (tommee tippee). They fit inside the bottle and you measure out the scoops of formula you need (so you don't have to try & do it while you're out). LINK

When I need to make up a feed I empty the pot into the bottle and warm it using our travel warmer (a flask would work too).

It isn't. Doing that carries a small risk of making LO poorly due to the powder not being sterile, and mixing it with cold water does not kill the bateria that may be present.

A lot of people do it this way anyway though - I wouldn't.

I've always taken cartons and a sterile bottle out.

Yup we do this too with the powder holders. Tesco do them really cheaply.
As for the water being cold, I have a Tommee Tippee bottle warmer (it's basically a thermos flask) and heat up the water a little as Evie doesnt like room temp bottles

I take a carton and a bottle out with me,alot safer that way,no risk of LO being poorly. But each to their own :D

We take a put together sterilised bottle and a carton of ready made formula when we go out.

Same here. Much easier adn less chance of leaks (which has happened to me before!) - just don't forget the scissors!! :dohh:

It's a good idea to try and find some child friendly cafes around your town too.

There are some here that provide microwaves and bottle warmers so you can heat food and bottles yourself (not many though), some that will warm things in the microwave for you (although some say they are not allowed) and some that will provide hot water to stand bottles in.

If you have a waterstones with a coffee shop they are fantastic, in ours they go out of their way to make sure you and your baby are comfortable and looked after. Even my friend who breastfeeds said they brought her a glass of water she hadn't asked for because the woman said she knew how thirsty BF can make you.

I honestly thing that finding a good cafe is one of the bes.t things you can do to when you start getting out and about

Good point about the scissors! I take a little pair of nail scissors in his changing bag to snip the side of the carton!!

Snap! Although I make sure they're not mixed in with all his changing gear as I stabbed myself with them the first time lol. They're now in their own little pocket lol

warm water in a flask, powder bottle pots & 2 sterilized bottles :D

I also bring the carton along with me and a sterilised bottle, i havent had to use it when ive been out in town yet, but will be on Fri, I was told that alot of restaurants/cafes will bring you a bowl of water to warm it up in ? Or if you go past a mothercare they have a bottle warmer in the changing rooms !

We make the bottles up first, before we go out... And now I feel really bad about it because none of you do that. :/

Chloe is Lactose Intolerent so we use SMA Lactose Free which unfortunately doesn't come in the cartons :-(

I take a sterile bottle filled with cool boiled water, a flask of boiling water and the powder in one of those handy gizmo's that you keep the right amount of powder in each compartment (I used to take out the whole tin which was a bit annoying!).
When I make the bottle I top up with hot water from the flask, add the powder and away we go!
