What's your OH's idea of a good gift?

I was having a rather interesting conversation with my bestest earlier, mainly about how hilarious male gift buying skills are.

Her OH goes for the safe route with her usual perfume (it's only usual because he buys the same perfume for every occasion), flowers and a card. And tops it up with whatever she has heavily hinted at.

My OH usually opts for a card with money in, and some flowers if the petrol station has any left. Last year however, he decided that I really really needed a new garden shed for my birthday, because I moan so much about the house not having enough storage. And a properly insulated garden shed would be just like having a walk in wardrobe! (Needless to say, the shed didn't become my walk in wardrobe, but home to the chainsaw he bought me for christmas. The chainsaw I needed because the tree in the garden blocked the sun)

What do you're OH's buy you for special occasions? Are they thoughtful and romantic, or as whacky and render you as speechless as mine do?

LOL Gotta love that chainsaw. My hubbie never gets me anything practical like that.

Hubbie's ridiculously romantic. We're not just talking flowers - We're talking the whole flower shop! Last Valentine's, he had a huge tres leches cake (our favorite kind) made with our names on it. He arranged fireworks for my birthday last year! And whenever he's away for work, I always receive a bunch of flowers for every day he's gone.

Good thing I like being romanced, eh? lol

Mine is pretty good at gift buying. He usually buys me something out of the blue that I have no clue. The day before Mother's Day he came home with the most beautiful PJs from Victoria Secret and they were real PJs not lingerie.

BUT most of the time he comes to me before and is like "Ok look I want to get you this but I want to get you what you really want." So on top of the PJs he told me he wanted to get me the vinyl cutter I have been talking about but had no clue where to even start to look for one. So he ended up getting me a band saw (I love cutting wood) because that was more in his "department" then a vinyl cutter. I ended up buying the cutter myself right after that.

I kind of threw it out there that I wouldn't like flowers as a gift and I haven't received any yet.

I've been with my OH for 5 years now. I mentioned when we started dating that flowers weren't really my thing...but it's kind of disappointing to NEVER get them! Not once! Instead for Valentine's I get footie pajamas (which are ridiculously comfortable and I wear them to work for pajama day). He also buys my things he knows I like, so I have a plethora of cupcake pans!
Usually he has no idea what to get me so I get video games and blankets and practical household items. He's not romantic at all, but I still love him

Mine is also good. He has gotten me a couple cars, a sound system for my car, clothes, necklaces, stuff like that. I am not as materialistic as that makes me sound. Lol he just likes to buy stuff like that and I am not complaining! I buy him stupid stuff he never likes. but its stuff he always talks about throughout the year, then he gets it, and never uses it. I bought him a toothbrush on black Friday last year though and that went over very well because his other one was broken. I was pleased he liked it for once. Lol. But he is definitely the better gift giver in our house. When we were dating, I bought him a 48 inch tv which looked HUGE in his room so he also loved that too. But nothing really else. lol.

For mothers day mine bought me the bacon bowl pan from the as seen on tv section at the store LOOOOOL

Then he tries to tell me fathers day is coming up and he needs a new watch. -___-

To his credit he did buy me a really nice gift for my birthday in January, a gift card for a full spa day. Which I had really been wanting so that was nice. For these other "holidays" we take them much more lightly.

Mine can be awful and can be pretty good at the same time! Out first Christmas together he got me the most amazing present ever. It was thoughtful and personal and just awesome. Since then it's all been alright. We've been together six years now.

And he won't buy me flowers anymore. Right around the time he was going to propose he told me he was going to buy me a gift that he needed his older brothers help for. Who by the way had just gotten married. He also told me that the gift was round, could be worn and sometimes people threw them.

He bought me roses.

Needless to say I was less than thrilled. So since then he refuses to buy me flowers because I was so upset that one time he got them for me.

We're both pretty lousy at giving gifts when we're supposed to.
DH buys me a huge beautiful bouquet on the special occasions, which I love. He also brings me a small bouquet every weekend I love that man!

We never really give proper presents. I still didn't get a birthday present, and it was my 30th in December. I was a bit pissed, but, I really don't want or need anything! HE got me some really nice jewelry last summer, out of the blue because it was something I wanted for a while.
I think we're better at random presents during the year!

We celebrated 8 years together last week and went out for dinner. He told me he bought a card but will write inside it at home and give it to me. When I told him I don't have a card for him he said that it's OK, he couldn't choose so he bought three, and I could have one to give to him.

My dh is good, we have been together 10 1/2 years so he knows me lol. For Christmas I got a big framed print of my daughter playing in the garden. Its the best thing I have got as a gift and he came up with his own. We do use wishlist on amazon to list things we may want as well then do surprise. I also have got bits for kitchen I wanted with picture (ice cream maker and sugar themometre) as well as books. Dh isn't so sentermentle so tends to love DVDs and stuff like that.

So it's just mine that buys me gifts that he would like? Haha.

They all sound so considerate. I love the random gift throughout the year idea. I buy my OH things I've spotted when I'm out and about that I think he'll like. But he does absolutely zero shopping himself haha. My treats throughout the year are things we need but have been putting off. Like new flooring in the kitchen. But, I do get giddy and happy when we do get them, so it's not too bad.

I'm going to have to start a scrapbook of things I like hahah.

DH and I made the agreement when we first moved in together not to buy each other extravagant gifts (some how that turned into no gifts at all lol) I'm not gonna lie I get a little disappointed now when my birthday comes and goes with no gift (I always get DH a little something because i'm sappy and love to buy him stuff) but at the same time when he has bought me stuff i dont end up using it then i feel bad, like 2 years ago he bought me the most beautiful gold necklace with Canadian mined diamonds in it, and i know he spent alot of money on it but I dont wear jewelry, so I wear it for special occasions but thats very rare.

Haha my birthday was last Thursday and my DH said .. "Unless you tell me what you want I'm not getting you anything." I always like surprises but he never know what to get me and I wouldn't give him any ideas. Finally the day before he was at a total loss and said he needs help haha. So I told him a spa day would be nice since I never get to pamper myself. So that's exactly what I got.. He booked a hair appointment for me and a 60 min foot/leg massage, manicure and pedicure. Can't wait to use it.. But let's just say I wasn't surprised one bit haha.

My guy is pretty good he normally just asks what I would like, I write a list of a few different things and he picks one so I still get a little surprise. He does always arrange the gifts in the lounge with candles etc so its all special. He doesnt like to buy me flowers as he sees them as flowers just waiting to die as soon as they are picked so if he does want to get me flowers i get plants, which im then not allowed to touch because im not good and tending to plants they all die lol
