When to have everything ready ?

I am booked in for a c section tomorrow morning and we still don't have everything ready :haha:

We are in the middle of moving house though, so not really a great deal of point in getting him a room ready with cot up, etc. We should be moving in the next month/6 weeks and he will still be in with us in either the moses basket or crib then, so I'm not even ordering the cot mattress until we've moved. And he will be having DD's wardrobe and chest of drawers with changing unit reattached, which she still needs until she moves into her new room with fitted wardrobes, so the poor bub will be living out of suitcases for the first few weeks. I'm sure he won't care :D

My first midwife gave me this bit of advice and it's stuck!

After 28 weeks if your baby arrives early do you have what you need to wash, change, dress and somewhere for it to sleep for 3 days? Anything extra you can just add as you get further along.

As for hospital bag I have a bag with a simple list so OH can grab the essentials if necessary. But I have it fully packed bar stuff you need every day (list again) from about 34 weeks.

Xx

Well Well , I can see I am the only one not having anything ready :D ! I made a list today and give it to my boyfriend and told him to look how many things we need and we still don't have any and he agreed we can star buying stuff but I think I am still going to have to force him :D

As a rule of thumb, my midwife told me to have my hospital bag packed from 35 weeks in a normal pregnancy and to have everything ready at home from 37 weeks as before this, baby wouldn't be coming home (most likely) and would be in hospital and so giving time to prepare for homecoming. I did it this way for Earl and as he was 5 days late, I was majorly antsy once 37 weeks was here lol.

As this lil man is our second we have lots of what we need. But I did Make a list if what we still have to get yesterday here it is
Nursery furniture,
Mattress,
Monitor,
Basic clothes (vests, baby grows, new bibs, etc...)
Bedding (for cot/bed as Joshua is still in his cot so can't use his stuff)
Storage baskets,
Stock pile nappies,
Stock pile Baby wipes.
That's all I can think of at the moment but it's exciting thinking of getting it all again.
We are also on the Market to sell our house as we need a bigger one with having 2 boys so will probably make do with furniture till we move. So I can get exactly what I want for him and don't have to worry about size as at the minute lil man 2 will Be in our room. He has a crib that will be fine till he's 4/5 months old so there's no rush. All the other stuff I will make sure I have it all ready by 36 weeks as that's when I start may leave and I want to be resting as much as possible for the last few weeks.

I'm 22 weeks tomorrow - room's getting painted and the furniture assembled next couple of days... will have moses basket by the weekend. Have enough clothes washed and sorted by size to keep us going decently for a good few months!

We still need:

Cot bedding - waiting to see if Tesco stick theirs back on 3 for 2 with the baby event coming up
Baby monitor
Some gro-bags - but have some coming that we've borrowed
A second changing mat (I plan to keep one upstairs and downstairs to save lugging mat or baby up and down every poo)
Some stuff like nail scissors and the like
A changing bag I like - but I can slum it with the one I have!
A sling (again - not an essential)
More nappies when we have a clue what will work well for us.

Pram and carseat should arrive in the next week or so - but yep, I'm scarily organised really. Been working in earnest at chipping the list down since 12 weeks, more seriously since 20 weeks.

We only have half a stash of cloth nappies, (waiting for real nappy week to buy the rest!)
Travel system, and monitor!
Have a Moses basket from a friend, so need a new mattress for that, and same friend is bringing lots of other bits over on Wednesday! How exciting! (her daughter is 5 months..)

i really think it depends hun, with my son i had everything up and set up by now room decorated and everything, this time i have all furniture up and most things ordered...but room still needs to be decorated and everything else...its personal choice hunnie so dont feel pressured into doing it but also dont feel like u cant do it because other ppl dont do it yet...i just liked to be prepared haha xxx

I started buying before the 12 week scan but not loads and loads then once we found out we're having a boy at the 16 week scan we started looking for boy things really and things in blue/green or whatever we fancy. We'd had things given to us from friends of mine who had babies and mum's been brill helping us find bargains! So we've got most things now, just a few little essentials we're gonna need and some more babygrows (onsies). I'm usually so unorganised at most things so I'm glad we've got a lot in already, I think it helps cos having this baby is something I want more than anything so it adds in the motivation for me :)

i think everyone should have everything for little baba at 30 weeks ?
because you dont know if your LO is going to come early
but i think ittttts fine that you havent got much yet
:hugs:

We've got enough that if the bump arrived - we'd have somewhere for it to sleep, and (when the pram materialises) means of transporting it, clothes, bedding - and Tesco's 3 mins up the road for the rest.... hitting that point was when I came down from panic station 1.

But I thrive on making lists and ticking things off them - which is probably why I'm ahead!
