When to tell work?

Earl was born in October but I've been off since May due to bullying at work. Obviously I don't want to go back, but when do I inform them? By my calculations My first 6 months of SMP will finish in Feb, with my second lot finishing in May, then my unpaid finishing in August. I had problems with sick pay etc last year and I want to avoid losing any money and get all 9 months of SMP.

When do I tell work? Or can I tell them straight away?

Not sure how different it is over there, but here you can resign anytime you like.

You should give work your normal notice period. (usually 1 month) before the end of your leave. That way you will be entitled to holiday pay all the way up until you leave.

You can tell them now that you wont be going back but they may try and bring your resingation date forward, losing you money.
