Where do I stand, please help

My contract expired a week after I went off on Maternity Leave,
I have been told by my work that they will be extending my contract but to date I have not had/recieved a contract through, where do I stand with this, do I still have to return back to my workplace when my Mat leave finishes, when I put in my request for Mat leave I did state in my letter my expected return date back to work, but as I dont have a contract would i have to go back.....?? And if I didnt would i be expected to pay back some of my maternity pay?

Please help with advice if anyone knows!!!

It sounds like you don't want to go back, is that right?

Basically you don't have to go back to any job if you don't want to & the only issue would be the maternity pay.

Did you get enhanced maternity pay from your employer, ie more than the statutory minimum? If you did you may have to pay it back but this should have been detailed in your original contract before you went on maternity leave.

If there's no mention of repayment or you only got SMP then you should be fine to just hand in your notice & not return.
