who can go MOST overdue?!

Can you still have a water birth if you need to go on the drip for induction? For some reason i had it in my head you can't because of all the monitoring thats needed. This is something i am worried about (secondary to hubby having to leave if i haven't progressed enough by the end of visiting hours).

oh hollywoodmum i feel your pain. I am soooooo annoyed with myself for getting my hopes up yesterday as i feel i should know better by now. But i had regular contractions all afternoon and all night, even after a bath. And yet, here i am doing it again, i can't help it! I'm my own worse enemy. I want to scream!

When i was induced last time DH was sent home and that's when i started properly contracting, but I spent from 11pm to 4am being unable to find a MW, so I was totally on my own
In my hospital also you have to go off two pessaries, if it takes more they won't let you in MW unit...

If you have drip you cant have water birth BUT might be worth putting bag together for OH if you do get induced, my MW said most hubbys dont actually go further than the carpark so worth putting him apillow/blanket/snack etc in the car so if they chuck him out he isnt far away if you need him. We only live 15 mins away but we have bag in boot for him just in case...rough night here and OH has come home from work to give me a rest, had an hours nap already but cant get away from the bathroom! Sorry if TMI. My little boy also told me Granny is coming to look after him tomorrow cos baby is coming to the hospital and Mummy has to go get him! Hope he is right!

I really am scared of having to go through it alone. We only live 5 mins drive from the hospital so thats not a problem, i know dh will get here in a flash when called (if it comes to that) but what i worry about is spending hours on my own at night trying to get to the 4cm. I know there is no point in worrying just yet - just having a really bad day with it today. Still not even dressed, just sat on the sofa watching shite tv. I want this afternoon to hurry up and come so i can get my sweep done and dusted.

awe bless your little boy moggymay - lets hope he is right! The bathroom trips sound like a good sign to me! xx

Hey girls,

That's me just back from sweep number 2. The M I had today seemed to know what she was doing so fingers crossed it'll get something going. Still loosing loads of plug, was up all last night contracting and was really really sick, am sooooo fed up but somehow I'm managing to hold it together.

Got another sweep booked for Saturday (in for a penny in for a pound) before induction on Monday. Am really scared about that as the hospital I have to go to is an hour and a half away from home as opposed to the one I want to use which is 2 mins down the road. There is no way I'm being left there on my own, I want hubby to stay with me right thorugh, surely they won't send him and hour and a half away home?????? Gonna have to stop thinking about it or I'll end up in tears. I'll cross that bridge if and when we get to it.

Sorry to hear you girls are fed up today, I really hope these babies get their butts into gear and get shifting!!!! xx

I hope you're right coz by the time I get to 12 days overdue, more tired, more uncomfortable and really frightened it's gonna take a brave person to tell me he has to go home!!! I'm not having it!!

Good luck with the sweeps ladies!!! Hope they get things moving. My due date is tomorrow so I'll more than likely be in the overdue club in no time!!!
I think it's really sad they make your husbands leave while you're in labour! It can't be easy labouring on your own. Here (well at my hospital anyway), there are visiting hours but for a maternity patients the husbands/partners are exempt and can stay all night. I don't think I could do it alone!!!

Well, I'm back and I got my sweep. My cervix was still wayyyyy back up high, but she was able to dilate it to 1 cm and it's now 40% effaced (from 30% on Tuesday). Unless she's at another birth on Saturday, she's going to call me and I get another sweep then. If I haven't gone into labour I go for the gel induction on Sunday afternoon, get sent home after monitoring and then go in Monday morning for the pitocin drip. Here's hoping it doesn't come to that because then I don't get to use my midwife...it's a transfer of care to some ob I've never met. And I won't get to go home after 3 hours either sigh. Oh yah, and baby still isn't engaged!!!!!

Well that sounds like progress to me! Hope its does something for you.

Well i am now waiting an extra couple of hours for mine. The stupid receptionist made my appointment for the wrong week (last week, in fact the very day i was standing there making the appointment???) so midwife has said to come at the end of the day if i don't mind waiting and she will try and squeeze me in. She is already running an hour behind with appointments. I know it's only a couple of hours but i had been building up to this all day! I'm feeling so bloody fragile today it doesn't take much to push me over the edge!

I'm getting really grumpy about this now despite only being 4 days overdue. It is just the not knowing that is getting to me. And I am fed up with being sore and swollen, my feet and hands are huge! I feel like the most unattractive person ever. Poor husband, I'm all over the place, sometimes all fine and positive, then grumpy and emotional!

I think I should be having sweep number 1 tomorrow I hope, the baby is more or less fully engaged and I had some really regular contractions the other night that I think were more than just BH so I'm hoping that might lead to something. They were originally going to wait until next week for sweep, but I have asked for tomorrow as it gives my body a few more days to get going. If they had waited till next wk there would prob only be time for 1 before they move to induction.

But at the same time I'm nervous about it actually happening! Of actually putting the bag in the car and going into the unit, and actually being a mother! All of which will happen in the next 10 days...eeeek!

Still no sweep for me! Midwife was concerned i may be slowly leaking fluid (which i don't think i am, i think its just watery discharge) and my bp was up so i'm off to the hospital where i get not one but two internals! one to check my waters and then my sweep. oh the joys. She did say they would give me my sweep though if it isn't my waters and book my induction for me. How did yours go Catlady?

Well i got my sweep, right after a speculum exam - holly sh*t that hurt. She said babies head was really low but my cervix was really high??? huh? Anyone know what this means? She didn't mention dilation or effacement so i'm guessing i have no movement on either. So it doesn't sound like it will do anything. Not been offered any more sweeps and have been booked in for induction on the 12th but at tea time! So i go in at 6ish and get my gel and then they check me in the morning? What a waste of time, don't see why i can't go home rather than spend a night on the ward alone. So over this pregnancy lark now. It's my 30th birthday tomorrow and i couldn't feel more miserable about it.

Kmac, glad you got your sweep. Lets hope first time lucky for you!
Emma, I feel for you the speculum exams are really painful, is good that you are not leaking and glad you got your sweep. The cervix comes down when bubs is on his way, but it doesnt mean anything that its up high as they can come down (efface) and you can go into labour really quickly. Any bleeding or plug since sweep? You are quite lucky they do it that way for you, I go in and get checked in in the morning and then I dont leave until I have had the baby, so I guess it means your dh wont be made to leave you which is good!!
My sweep went ok, I still dont think it has worked, will have another one on Monday as they want to leave me for a few days and then I will be induced on Wednesday. Have had some serious tightenings and few painful contractions. Lost LOADS of plug and some blood in the blood but nothing more. We went for a two mile walk around a local forest with the dog. We came back and have glossed ost of the house, have more to do tomo. Wanted to finish it all today but couldnt - I am exhausted!!!

Ooooh Happy Birthday EmmaM2!!! Did they not write on your notes anything about your dilation or effacement? Also, how come you're not allowed to go home after the gel? When I go for the gel on Sunday (assuming I'm not already in labour) I go home after an hour or so of monitoring to then go back for the pitocin drip Monday morning. Hopefully we both go into labour before then though.
