I know some of yous might not agree to this, but I'm leaving Kyle for 2 weeks september 2010. Its to do volunteer work with street children in Africa, its something I had planned then fell pregnant so couldn't do then, but i'm determined to show my father that things can still be done when you have a child. He was so adament i'd threw my life away and I know I haven't. Going to Africa means so much to me, and I know it will change me and how I look at and live life, so in the long run will benefit Kyle in his unbringing.

I was originally going for 3 months, thats undoubtly out the window, so i'm going for 2 weeks, i'm booking it this week and i'm going to have to save loads. Kyle will be 2 and a half year old, I feel i would be better to do it when he was younger as he understands less. I can't imagine telling a 6 year old your leaving them for 2 weeks will go down easy so I feel its best to do it as soon as possible.
But, will he remember me? Is 2 weeks too long for him to know me when I get back? :(

I would make out a little scrap book of your time , the children , even stick little things in the book and then show him where mummy had been and all the children she played with :)

Wow, what an experience that will be! You're right, life still goes on when you have a baby. Of course he'll remember you, you're probably his most favourite person in the world!

Thats a fantastic idea! :D Thanks!!

my SIL went to India volunteering to work with street kids for 6 weeks leaving her 4 girls - youngest 6 and 7. I cant remember if they saw her at all during that time...maybe once she flew back to see them, or maybe not. They missed her loads but were fine and no doubt learned a little about life.

I think the scrapbook idea is brilliant!! It will make Africa special for him too because mummys been there! When he's older I bet he'll be proud of you!
