I just got the news yesterday afternoon that my pap smear result is abnormal :( gosh...I am really worried and they asked me to do another test asap. BUt when I tried to call to make an appointment, something wrong with the phone over there I think, the blasted number is keep busy :(

Now I am sick with worry, is there any of you have abnormal pap smear and after do the test again coming out ok? this is the 1st time happen to me, the last pap smear coming out fine, so I really don't know what went wrong this time. Some advice please.

I had an abnormal one a few years ago, it showed borderline abnormal cells but when I had it repeated it was fine, I had to go every 6 months for 3 years (I think) afterwards but now I am back to normal schedule - good luck and hope you are ok :hugs:

hi,
about three years ago, I had an abnormal smear result. It was stage two cervical cancer. otherwise known cin2.
I was sent to a specialist who took a sample of the abnormal tissue, then followed by laser surgery to remove infected cells or tissue....
Onced done you have a pap every 6mnths to be monitor and after a yr both came back normal, and have done since. I dont know how it would work for std's or cervical surgery whilst pregnant. Good luck, keep us updated.

I had this and got the results when i was a few weeks pg (i mean so early it wasnt confirmed) They said i needed to go back for another in march but they dont do them here if you are pg. The doc and midwife said not to worry as it generally is nothing they mostly go away or the test was unreliable. Please be aware that during pregnancy it is normal for cell changes to take place in the cervix so try not to fret too much!

My mom had it come back abnormal, turned out they were just precancerous cells I believe. She now has to get them more frequently, but nothing ever came about of the abnormal cells.

Good Luck :hugs:

Awww its scary i know but try not to worry. I've been going through this recently and its not nice at all.
I had an abnormal smear and then went for a biopsy and discovered i have CIN 1 cells - this ISN'T cancer, these cells that they find (grade 1, 2 or 3 depending how deep / how many there are) are not cancerous, they are cells that potentially could turn cancerous in the future and better to treat / laser away now to be safe. Most abnormal cells go away of their own accord though and i opted for conservative treatment of mine- which means they just keep an eye on them for the next 2 years and see if my body gets rid of them of it's own accord without any invasive treatment. If after 2 years they are still there or got any worse then i will have the laser treatment that millygirl mentioned she'd had.
That said, the nurse told me that in the majority of cases when people get an abnormal smear, the body has often righted this before the repeat smear, so i think there is a much higher chance that the abnormal cells will have gone when you have your next appointment, than like me, where the stubborn things are stopping around a bit longer!! There are also other things that can cause an abnormal smear- not just cell changes, so try not to worry too much :hugs:

This is what I am hoping for, because of the hormone changing during pregnancy, it just nothing. I will keep update after I can get the appointment asap.

pregnancy=odd results on smear tests. That's why I'm waiting to have my next one, I think it's six months after the baby is born, but I'm not sure. Try not to worry too much, it's most likely your pregnancy, and if it's not, then you've caught the abnormality nice and early

I didnt think they did smears during pregnancy? x
