Any big momma's out there?

I had my 16 week appointment today. My bp was fine, wee was fine, She tried to find the heartbeat and could only just make it out herself 'in the distance' and I couldn't hear it at all, we did hear the wooshing sound of the baby moving though. She said with larger ladies its really hard to always hear the heartbeat as it can be difficult with smaller ladies.

Also she said my babies bum is up above my belly button and they are facing down still like in my scan, so this explains my high bump already!

My 20 wk scan is on the 8th of July and I also have to see a consultant at 24 weeks cos of my BMI, she said if they cant find the heartbeat then they will scan me from then on, so bonus scans :)

I feel kinda sad not have heard the babies heart but I DID hear them moving around and afterwards when I was walking into town I thought I felt them moving around and the bubbles popping thing... but nothing much since.

Hi happigail - You must have been so excited to hear your babies moving around, fingers crossed you will hear a heartbeat next time. :happydance:

It must feel pretty amazing to start getting that fluttering feeling inside, I just can't wait til it happens to me - god I'm always trying to wish my life away lol.

My midwife says that I will have to see a consultant for my 16wk appointment because of my bmi but will be back with her for my 24wk.

Hope everything continues to go tickety-boo for you :flower:

Oh yes! Usually I wouldnt let someone get away with it but I was really shocked about how rude she was. I wont put up with it again.

When I went in for my induction they were warned to keep her away from me :winkwink:

Healthy pregnancies and good babies all round! :happydance:

Just found this thread and wanted to say hello to you all :flower:

I was overweight with last two pregnancies and had absolutely no problems. Now I'm old and overweight lol so have to see a Consultant but they've been lovely so far. I have had a few problems this pregnancy, but they're not weight related.

My sister was also overweight and had three easy pregnancies and deliveries. Last one was a water birth. Hospital told her she couldn't because of her BMI, in the end she got her own way after showing them that she could get in and out of the pool and it was a wonderful easy birth, you wouldn't even think she was in labour.

Hope you are all ok and well :hugs:

hello Xanath!!!! SO good to hear positive big girl preg/birth stories!!! Thanks so much!

No problem. Everyone seems to think that overweight women have loads of problems and I just don't believe it. My cousin is teeny tiny and unfortunately had lots of problems. Sometimes I think Doctors just like to blame our weight on anything. You know what it's like if you go with a cold they say it's your weight :haha:

Hi all. I dont think I have posted in here yet.

Im a VERY big girl. Im 5ft 10, size 26. BMI 49  (Half of me is fat lol) Thought Id throw out all the statistics of myself.

Anyway, can I ask you ladies where you would get plus size maternity clothes from? I am struggeling to think of where.

Thanks, Jess :flower:

Bon Prix and Simply Be are good for bigger sizes. Most maternity ranges only go up to about 20 (no good for me :winkwink: ) both of these go up to 28/30.

Hi Shabutie - I'm a 24/26 on the bottom and 26/28 on top. I bought some lovely over the bump trousers from the bon prix website (i'm only 10wks but found that all my normal trousers dug in to my "b" belly and made me feel more sick, so thought I might as well go for some proper maternity ones as I will need them eventually anyway lol).

The prices are really reasonable - the only thing is that they tend to be out of stock of a lot of things, it seems there must be a high demand for plus size maternity wear!! They were waiting for stock when I placed my order but they sent me a nice letter and they didn't charge my card until they had been dispatched.

I have also got a pair of nice wide leg trousers and a skirt, both in nice full stretchy material, from Anne Harvey.

Ive got 2 pairs of trousers from Simply Be, though I had to get them from Ebay with living abroad. At least for trousers get a size down! Im a 24 so got a 22 and the jeans were a little big on the leg though some black trousers were perfect!

How did you find the sizes? If I got something in Evans Id get a 24. Id love to order something to go to my parents just before I go the UK in July. I dont really have time to be sending stuff back so I need to get it right.

Oh forgot to put the trousers I ordered from bon prix are a 24 and after wearing them a couple of times they stretched a bit and now slide down my bum lol! I'm constantly pulling them up - need bump to grow to hold them up :haha:

You know girls some midwifes realy do talk some crap. I know a few people who were told that they wouldent try and find babys heartbeat at there 16 weeks appointment because it was harder with bigger girls.

I found it yesterday at 14 weeks.

they couldn't find mine at 16+6 I am bigger than you tho.

They found my babies heartbeat spot on first attempt at my 16 week appointment, and it was really clear...I did know that baby was laying on my right side however, so I pointed the trainee midwife in that direction!!

Oh so I'm the exception :( ugh I hope everything is ok.

Well just had my booking appointment today. Midwife was nice but seemed more concerned about covering her back against any potential problems; than with common sense and my experience with past pregnancies. She insisted on referring me to a mental health specialist even though I haven't been on any anti-depressents for two years and look what happened in my first pregnancy when they tried to refer me to a consultant for that very same reason, grr I have never been referred for this reason since and never had PND.

She didn't weigh me but took the BMI calculation from what I said. Also she said I was slightly higher risk as my BMI is 31 even though in the risk factors section of the notes it says 'BMI greater than 35' also she said I'd need a GTT even though I've never had gestational diabetes before; and while my middle son was big and she said that was why she was referring me for the GTT, not my BMI; he wasn't even at the weight where they consider it 'macrosomia' (and thus recommended to have the GTT) and my youngest weighed 6oz less than him plus it runs in my family. She kept saying she didn't believe I weighed so much as I don't look it, and when she tested my blood pressure the cuff was TOO loose, she did it over my sleeve at the end (quite a puffy sleeve) and even then the velcro just about fastened tightly enough to get a reading, and there was a good 4-5 inches of the velcro left over. So now I've got to see a consultant at 24 weeks for a medical and also see a 'perinatal mental health specialist' whatever that is. Woe betide me for moving to a different area where the midwives don't know me :(.

got my consultant appointment through 1st september so ages off yet i hope shes nice

You looked smaller than me in your pic, It all depends on how baby is lieing and how much time they spend doing it. I had to try for a while before i foound it.
