Anyone TTC #1 and 30 or older?

Xokittykat - it's definitely confusing! ICs are probably not the best and I have to say it was quite stressful testing repeatedly to try to catch the surge. If someone hadn't told me to test more than once a day on here, I probably wouldn't have. BUT I am still better at that and at the temping than at, say, detecting my CP or categorizing my CM. Esp. with CP. It took me long enough to find my cervix, and when I did find it, it felt decidedly the same for the past two weeks. I have no idea what's going on in there.

Star-e - Ah, glad to know docs can prescribe it. I will bear that in mind in case we have trouble over the next few months. I use the Fertility Friend app to create my charts because they're super easy, and I replicate the data on an app called Clue, which is really well designed and helpful. I've recorded my cycles on clue for the past 19 months, but only started temping and OPKing last week.

I agree with Jezika. Your opk might not be blazing positive the next day, but the line should still be there, depending on where you are with your surge. 12-36 hours after you see the positive, you should ovulate (You can have a surge and not ov, so if it doesn't stress you out to temp, you can do that to confirm ov).

I typically ovulate 12-24 hrs after my pos opk, so it's worth making sure to BD same day as the positive and the next day, if you can, to cover your bases. Actually, I do the Sperm meets Egg Plan, which is BDing every other day until you get a pos opk and then BDing the day of the positive and the next two days after that.

you are right, i did get the positive today, this morning. but in my post above, you will see that by the afternoon i got a negative. do you think the egg is still alive? i read it can live for 24 hours? I luckily did the sperm meets egg plan and did not know about it. is EOD better than ED?

Yep, 24 hours for your egg.

Before ovulation, every other day is good because you won't tire your DH out. Plus, it gives him time to build up his sperm. EOD is also helpful if you're not sure if there's a sperm issue going on, but just want to make sure you're getting a decent number of sperm waiting for your egg. You could continue EOD after the pos opk and be just fine too.

As for BBT thermometers -Go for digital. Make sure it has two digits after the decimal point.

I got mine at a UK pharmacy store (Boots) and it's lasted me 3+ years...but I know other women who have gotten theirs from amazon and walmart.

Hi everyone. Im new to the community. I am 35 and TTC #1. I do have that scary nagging feeling that its too late and of course I wonder if I'm even able to conceive. This is only our 3rd cycle trying so I'm hanging in there since its still so soon. My sister just found out she is pregnant last week and she is 33. She told me to hurry so we can be pregnant together lol. Well AF is due Saturday so we shall see!

Nikki welcome!! 35 it's not too old at all.. I'm sure you'll have your bfp soon.

I'm being impatient, I know it's been less then a week since having my mirena Removed, but I want my cycle to hurry up..

Welcome, Nikki! Join the club - I think we all feel/felt a little like that! There is definitely a lot of hope, though.

Admittedly I'm currently feeling a little down. I thought I'd O'd on CD14 after my positive OPK, but why did my temps go down this morning? I'm scared I tried to O but failed. Even if I do O this cycle, I'll have too short of an LP :( What do you guys think of my chart?

If you ovulate later, your LP won't change. AF should just show up later than you expect.

Your LP is pretty static. It might change plus or minus a day occasionally, but it will always be around the same length. So, if it's 12 days long, no matter how long it takes you body to ov, you'll still get those 12 days after ovulation. So, try not to worry about it. As long as you ovulate, you're in with a chance. :)

As for your chart, it's possible you're just having a 2DPO fallback rise (where the amount of estrogen in your body is affecting your temps). If your temp is back up tomorrow, you'll know you've probably ovulated, but if it's still down, keep BDing to make sure you catch the egg.

DBZ - I hope it's a fallback rise! I have no idea why the estrogen would do that, but it sounds good! The reason I'm worried about my LP is because my cycle has never, ever been longer than 27 days, and my average over the past 20 months is 25 days, so unless this is the first time that my cycle goes over 27 days, it seems like I've maybe had LP issues for a while without realizing it. I'm also worried because of possible PCOS that an ultrasound revealed, which apparently can do this kind of thing.

Hi everyone, I was very happy to see this thread and I look forward to getting to know you all!

I'm 33 y/o and my fiance and I started TTC (#1) this month. I was actually concerned because my period tends to be irregular and could be off by 3-5 days each month. So I purchased the Clearblue ovulation test and started testing every morning starting on Day 11. We started DTD every other day, and on CD15 we DTD spontaneously in the morning but I had to PEE after :shy: So I tried to lay down and hold it in for as long as possible before getting ready to go to work! I was able to hold it for about 30-45 minutes, took the ovulation test after and for the 1st time it was POSITIVE! I was shocked but I was very sad I went pee afterwards and I hope that didn't completely ruin it. The next day CD16 the test came out negative. I'm guessing I started ovulating later in the day of CD14.

I scheduled an appointment for a referral to an OB/GYN this upcoming Monday because I have some concerns as well.

New to all of this and I look forward to learning more and getting to know you all through this crazy journey

Welcome LG24:flower:

As for getting up to pee after BDing, I think many say you can do that right afterwards as the good, strong :spermy: won't fall out. I'd say you probably don't need to keep laying down for more than 15-20 minutes if you want to be more sure though. Or you could try SoftCups, I know some swear by them! That way you can pop in a cup and get up to pee:thumbup:

Hope your appointment goes well!

Finally got my letter today:thumbup: My 8 week scan is set for March 2nd at 9:00 AM:happydance:

Kat, I just wanted to pop in and say super huge congratulations to you!!! :happydance:  :happydance:  :happydance:

FF giveth the crosshairs and ff taketh away  What the heck is going on ugh!!

Hmm. That's a good point. Now that you're temping, you'll have a better idea of what's going on with your cycle. Hopefully, you've ovulated already though.

There are ways to increase your LP if it is short, so try not to worry too much. Easier said than done, I know. ;)

Wow! I missed so much!! Trying to catch up!

AFM - Yesterday I called the fertility clinic and was able to schedule my first appointment. Because their main doctor jumps between two clinics (one is over an hour from me and one is ~ 20 minutes) and I wanted to do afternoon appointment so I don't have to get a sub for my classes I had some trouble getting scheduled. It wouldn't have been an issue but we have so many other appointments scheduled this month that every earlier opening they had would have been a conflict with something I Couldn't reschedule (like my root canal :/ )

Anyway, that gives me this cycle to see what happens because by the time I go in I should be at the beginning of next cycle if no BFP.

Checked with insurance and they will cover diagnostic and testing up until a diagnosis is made. the minute a diagnosis of infertility is made, the insurance will no longer pay for any tests or treatment. Hoping it comes up to be something as simple as needing progesterone or something instead. Otherwise this could be a very expensive route.

At least I have an appointment though.

what type of bbt thermometer do u recommend? Digital? I have t done the temping. Do I need to start at the beginning of my cycle?

Also if there are any websites u all find helpful. Please do let me know. I am trying to learn as much as I can but if there is a go to site that anyone loves id like to know. I'm using this app right now called woman calendar. I really like it. It makes it easy to keep track of everything that goes on during my cycle. it's not perfect. But it's good. Though I'm sure there are tons of gadgets like this. This is just one I came across when doing research and I have found it hugely helpful.

The one I use right now is from easy@home (I bought it on amazon). It's actually kind of big/bulky and takes a little getting use to because of the odd shape of the mouth piece, but I like it because of the ease of checking the past temps. A lot of the cheaper/smaller ones have a memory function but it only works by blinking your last temp for about 3 seconds after you turn it back on and if you miss it then you have no other way to check. This one that I use lets me go back through memory and see the last 30 temps at any time. This is important to me because I temp at 5am and I am not awake enough to look so I put it down and when I get up I check it. I would suggest going onto Amazon and reading reviews and see what looks good to you for both price and type.

Definitely get digital. It needs 2 decimal places.

You can start temping any time, but is most effective when you start from teh beginning of your cycle (or right after AF ends) because you have to look for a shift from your temps to show where Ov happened. It does take a little adjusting to get used to and get things right so if you start mid cycle it at least gives you some "practice" in temping.

I would recommend looking at fertility friend. Even if you don't want to change apps they have a really great "tutorial" where you get one email a day teaching for a couple weeks about temping and stuff. It's really interesting, and very informative. Plus FF will track all your symptoms and give you a cross hair when it confirms that it thinks you did O.

Nikki Welcome! Never too late! :) I'm 30 and DH is 31, but sevearl of my friends are in their mid 30s and are getting pregnant. :)

Jezika a lot of people have fall back rise. Hopefully that's all you are having. If not you'll try to O again later. the +OPK just means the hormone surged, it doesn't mean the egg released yet. Checking CM can also help you determine how fertile you are. If you do O later, your LP won't change. It stays the approximately the same each month, even if O does change.

LG Welcome!! You shouldn't worry about going pee afterwards. I've been told, even by doctor, that after 15-20 minutes it's definitely fine to get up. And I have to worry about UTI's so I can't wait more than about 20 minutes or I can risk a really bad UTI. Granted, I'm not pregnant yet but I have other issues going on. :haha: Good luck though! :)

Kat Yay! Scan!

going to look into that app, that sounds great. and thanks for the suggestion about the 2 decimal places. i'll look into that over the weekend. and good luck with the appointment. keep us updated.

good luck to everyone this cycle!

Hi Angel, thanks for the information! Makes sense, I don't want to get a UTI :nope: I'll keep that in mind next time. And I have a few issues too, best of wishes to you as well!

I use softcups there pretty cheap I get them from walmart it's like 6$ for a box of 12 I think.. and like Kat says you just pop that baby in an go about your day.. I'm doing AI so if we have :spermy: left have in the cup that doesnt fit in the syringe I'll actually put the rest in the soft cup and I leave mine in for 10-12 hours you don't feel it at all. Its a little gross when you take it out but I can deal with it :haha:

AFM my crosshairs came back. I was so happy to see that. So 5DPO this is going to be a long week but I been keeping myself busy with shopping :haha: I am trying everything in me to take a more relaxed approach with this tww. No more stressing over stuff..

Hope you ladies are doing well

FX AshNAmber! When is your test date? I'm in the TWW too, though no idea if I actually ovulated. I may be messing my temps up. This stuff is so challenging!
