Anyone TTC #1 and 30 or older?

Hi everyone!

Lots to catch up on!

Star--glad the retrieval seems to have gone well as unpleasant as it sounds. I hope you're recovering nicely. Giving your body a break makes sense and it sounds like you got a lot of eggs so fingers crossed for you that you get a good amount of useable embryos!

Jeika and aphy: We had a few pregnant women in my psy. d. program and while tough, they managed! Good luck to you both

Angel: Excited to hear how your scan goes! I hear ya on the weight gain. Due to the last bleeding episode and then being exhausted/busy I've been out of the gym for two weeks and suddenly look like I'm 6 months pregnant rather than 14 weeks. I go back to the gym tonight too

Leane: Sorry to hear you're having such a difficult time ttc. What do the specialists say, assuming you've seen them?

AFM: Well found out the sex of the baby....IT'S A GIRL!! So excited to bring the first baby girl cousin into my husband's side of the family. It's been all nephews up till now. We did a small reveal party with family and a couple close friends over the weekend, which was a really nice way of finding out. Certainly more fun than if I was told over the phone when I got my genetic testing results. As for those, they all were fine with one small exception. I'm blanking on which test it was but I tested low on something that was related to protein A, which can be linked to later preeclampsia. And Preeclampsia can be linked to placental health. So what that means is that I'm on a low dose aspirin regimen and later in the pregnancy will get more ultrasounds than normal to check and make sure the baby is growing at an appropriate rate. I wish they'd start with the extra ultrasounds now because my first one isn't going to be for at least another month (which will be 6 weeks from my last one), which seems like an eternity! I don't feel any kicking or movement yet so how am I supposed to know if everything is still going okay? Just trust that it is? Please lol.

Yay for a girl, etis! You could always get a doppler and listen to her whenever you want. ;)

Aww, congrats on little girl Etis! And just to clarify, did YOU find out for the first time at the reveal too? That sounds so cool if so. As for waiting for the next u/s, I'm certain that time will fly. And yes, it's just waiting and trusting all will be okay, which it almost certainly will be. I had spotting in first tri so was scared a lot of the time, but then got extra ultrasounds because of it. Soon enough you will feel movements and be so reassured by them (and, if you're like me, freaked out if you haven't felt them in a while, even though you're not even supposed to yet). Oh, also, I'm jealous of your Psy. D. At this point I'd love to avoid the research component.

My anatomy scan is today. The imaging place called and they have a tech out today so they suggested I Could reschedule or go to their other lab. I didn't want to reschedule since DH took the afternoon off (and he really struggles with getting afternoons off since they work all over the state and take a work van there, so if he leaves early either he has to drive himself or the whole team has to come back early). So they're sending me to the other lab and bumped the appointment 30 minutes sooner. They were so sweet and accommodating, which I appreciate, and very apologetic that they had to move me but the other lab is no further than the first one, just in the opposite direction so I don't mind either way.

I'm so nervous that something will be wrong, and anxious to find out whether this is a boy or girl! And of course nervous that he/she will be too stubborn to let us find out! At which point DH promised me we'd book a private scan if we have to (even though he'd be perfectly happy staying team Yellow).

Etis - That's how I feel, huge! lol Congrats on the girl! That's so exciting! I feel very little movement myself and am constantly worried. My home doppler helps a lot actually, very reassuring. :)

Thanks everyone! Yes Jezika, it was a surprise for us as well. I had them put the results in an envelope and gave it to the baker. They made a cake--it was going to be strawberry shortcake with pink inside frosting if it was a girl and blueberry shortcake with blue frosting if it was a boy. So we found out at the same time everyone did when we cut into the cake.

Glad they were able to still get you in today for the scan Angel! Hope it goes well

Angel, can't wait to hear what you're having! I'm sure baby will be perfectly healthy and you'll be able to see just fine by now. I don't think it's that common to not be able to. Or maybe I've been pretty lucky at my 7,000 ultrasounds because they saw everything no problem, even at anatomy scan, which takes a while as they have to check out so many things. I hope you're comfy and won't be too worried. Keep up posted!

Etis - that is so awesome! I actually never even realized people did that until after our gender reveal. Not sure if I could've waited, though. I REALLY wanted to know at our anatomy scan and was bracing myself the whole time for the news (but I'm one of those terrible people that really wanted one sex over another, and so was hubby).

AFM, baby Matilda is currently protruding out from lots of different spots on my belly and I'm trying to figure out whether I'm feeling a back, head, bum or what.

etis - congrats on the girl! i love the way you found out with the cake. that is so adorable.

angel - fx for the scan. im sure everything will be okay. excited to find out how it goes.

afm - doc called today and said all 17 are dividing and doing their thing. so as of today, they've all made it. i was very happy to hear this. i may have already said this earlier, but i'll say it again bc i dont remember. i read an article that said after day 3 many people lose around half of the day 3 number by day 5 (of course people can loose all or more or even less, thats just what this article said). so im just going to hope for the best. nothing i can do but cheer those embies on. doc said embryologist will come in on saturday to check them and freeze any blastocysts and that if some of them have not made it to that day, he or she will come in on sunday to see if there are any day 6s. no one will call me over the weekend. so i'll have to wait till monday to find out. my fx.

The verdict is in!!

We are TEAM PINK!!!

I'm so excited. Surprised but excited.

Congrats angel!! We're having a lady baby boom on this thread

Star: great news too! Keep us posted. Odds sound good!

Jezika: I got my results from the cell free dna so they would have told me over the phone which seemed really anticlimactic. While the hubs and I both wanted a girl, I wasn't trying to get my hopes so, which actually made me less anxious to find out. But it worked out and it was a nice way to find out with friends and family.

Angel omg!!! Congrats.

Two little ladies..

Star- that's amazing. I'll be praying that at least half of those make it...

Thanks everyone! We revealed to my nieces/nephew by wrapping up a wii controller (since our original announcement was video game style) and had them open it since we had both a pink and blue controller. Then we uploaded that video to facebook for the family. <3 We are so excited. It makes this so very real.

The whole time during the scan she NEVER stopped moving, kicking and rolling around, playing with the cord (which gave the tech trouble whenever she tried to get a picture of the cord :haha: ), and every time DH was like "you seriously can't feel that?!" Pretty amazing how much she's moving and I feel nothing.

Star - That's amazing. I am keeping everything crossed that you get a good number of those surviving! :)

Angel and Etis, congrats on the little girls! That's so exciting, I could squeal. Lol. I love the reveal ideas, how sticking cute.

Man there are a lot of psychology folks on this thread. I wrapped up my phd (combined program) 4 yrs ago. Looking back, I actually think it would have been easier to have a baby in grad school than in the working world... more fluidity to your day in school (a ton of work, but a fluid schedule...). Wish I could have a do-over! I'm excited for the adventure ahead of you ladies!

Star, oh my goodness, that is just the best news. So glad your little eggies are rockstars this month and I hope the good progress keeps on going! I'm rooting for you!

AFM, I have my first fertility clinic appt tomorrow. Feeling nervous but ready to get this show on the road. Still very very very much hoping my body complies and gets pregnant before we have to break out the big guns.

Angel, I just noticed you're at the half way mark! Yay for your little banana!

I'll check back in after my appt. I'm at work now and am too antsy to be productive, lol.

Okay. Done! The picture is much better (so far) than we expected. Just looking at my AMH he said I likely have the reproductive system of a 42 yr old, and he expected to see 6 follicles in both ovaries combined. BUT I had 12. Which is exactly what I should have at 32. He said this is more important than the AMH. Said my ovaries, lining, follicles, uterus, and cervix are "textbook beautiful", lol. I will do more bloodwork, an HSG and fluid sonogram, and hubby will do a semen analysis. If all that looks good, then we try naturally for 3 months (more if we want to) and then start meds and trigger shot with IUI to increase chances. He said the only way we'd move to IVF any time soon is if hubby's results come back abnormal or if my tubes are blocked. He's also doing genetic screening on both of us. So lots of testing over the next month, but the picture is so much better than my bloodwork suggests. I feel so relieved! Hopefully nothing else wacky shows up in our work ups.

MissDoc - glad to hear the appt went way better than you thought. And "textbook beautiful" - what a great compliment! It must also be a relief to have a solid plan in place. I assume you're feeling a lot better about things?

And wow, yes, so many psych people on here. I agree that there are some benefits to having kids in grad school (from what I've heard), but I must say I envy that you're done. Kids are going to delay the day I am able to actually be licensed, and I'll be much older than you when that happens! But I guess life's about the journey, huh...

angel - congrats on the girl! that’s so adorable and i love your reveal. so cute.

not sure i remember who did the cake cutting reveal, but that was adorable too!

miss doc - so thrilled to hear the great news. your doc said textbook beautiful, that is such encouraging news! so happy for you!

afm - 12 of the 17 made it to day 5 blastocyst and are frozen, waiting for transfer time :) I’m super thankful, and so very hopeful that transfer works out. next steps are to wait for AF to show, do a scan, check for cysts. if cysts, i have to wait another cycle to transfer to give the cysts time to go away. if no cysts, then we get to transfer this coming cycle. they will put me on estrogen supplements to help build lining and then all i can do is hope for the best.

Star_e that's so exciting! 12 is a lot, no? Is that it now, like those 12 are ready to go, or is something else down with them? And how many get transferred? The rest remain frozen for potential future cycles? Sorry... so many questions :)

Chiming in on the Masters program and baby's in a Masters program. . . In my case i was doing my MA while working full time teacher, so I'm very very glad to be done with it before baby comes. I am not sure I could have handled it while still in school. But I've been told by a lot of other people that it is easier to do in many ways to have baby during the program instead of once you're in the workforce. Good luck to all of you! :)

MissDoc - :happydance: Yay! I'm so glad to hear that your appointment went well! That's great!

Star - Thanks. :) I'm very excited. 12 made it to day 5? That sounds great. Keeping FX that all goes well! :)
