anyone TURNED DOWN the downs test?

We did have the bloods/NT at 12wks and after the anomaly scan at 20wks, our risk came back at 1/300 for downs and 1/955 for others; we didn't do cvs or amnio as no soft markers or worries came back (and fear of mc)....incidentially, am 44 (43 at conception), so if my ob/gyn had been concerned, we would have....

ilysilly -- age does affect possiblity of downs, but the majority of downs babies (80%) are born to mums under 35 (which makes sense as the under 35s have loads more babies than us 'oldies'), but if your various scans have come back, fine -- I wouldn't worry!

Forgot to add I refused the amnio, I had higher chance of miscarrying from that than I do of have a DS baby. X

I am having a scan for downs next week, but I am just having it to see the bean again. :D I would be happy to have a baby with downs. I would be happy to have any baby at all.

We decided not to do it too. Either way we are keeping and loving our baby. i would like my pregnancy to be a joy filled as possible not stressed each day about what if or what now.

I opted out and I'm glad I did as I've heard sometimes the results are not reliable and I wouldn't have gone through with an amnio if I had to because of miscarriage risks, as other ladies have said they can also pick up things on the 20 week scan.

my midwife was disgusted that i turned the test down she found it "irresponsible" as i have 2 young children already and should think of how it could affect them too:S i've never had the tests done as either way i'll love my little bundle so its pointless to me

I havent had the testing with my last 3 babies and only reason I did with my oldest is it was routine and they didnt even ask back then :)

I didnt have it either il love this baby regardless :)

Same as all the ladies above.

Earlier in our marriage, my husband expressed that if we found out our baby was going to have DS he would want to terminate the pregnancy. I found the idea appalling (although I totally understand it).

But we were younger and not pregnant and it's easier to say what you would do in a hypothetical case. So, when the mw asked both of us if we wanted the test, we weren't sure. She told us to think about it for a few weeks. DH was still unsure and I always knew that I wouldn't terminate it because of DS so I decided to save us all the drama and opted out. He was ok with this.

Our chances are super low but I figure he'd love her regardless once she is born and if not (I know this sounds awful) if I have to choose between my husband and my daughter, I know what choice I'd make.

Anyway, that's what went through my mind when I was saying "no" to one of the most difficult questions I've ever been asked.

My husband and I opted out of testing! I would never consider terminating a pregnancy...regardless of what challenges a baby might have in it's future.
We will love our baby regardless.

I didn't have any testing done; I have zero risk factors, so I didn't see the point.

I turned it down with my last pregnancy and this one. Too many false positives and I wouldn't terminate anyways...

I didn't do it as there was no point. I would never consider killing my baby.

I kinda opted out of it.. I wasn't really given an option whether or not unwanted it done and thought I had to have it done really.. They tried getting blood out of me ( stabbed me 5 times grr!) and then asked me if it came back with a high risk would I terminate so I said no and she then said oh we won't carry on then!

I didn't get it done either..not with this pregnancy or my first. The outcome wouldn't have made a bit of a difference to me.

Yeah we opted out without a second thought will do the same for this one if asked.

We did do the testing with this and my first baby,
the only reason we did do it is in case of a postitve result, we would have to deliver at a hospital over an hour away and we wanted to be prepared.
we would never terminate.
