Hi Ann, I have bought a cheap TommeeTippee manual one to start off with because I heard its not good to use bottles in the first 6 weeks anyway as baby gets nipple confusion. Also, I am going to try my hardest to breastfeed but I dont want to feel disappointed if I end up formula feeding and I have a £100 breast pump staring at me.. I have been eying up the medula swing pump for a while though, they use it in hospitals and it has good reviews e.t.c x x
Thanks
I'm so torn because I don't know yet how soon I'll have to go in for surgery after the wee one is here, and I don't have a gastro appt in yet to be able to find out...
If I have to go in within a short space of giving birth then I know my local Community Mothers group can lend me a hospital grade breast pump to allow me to breastfeed, the HV I shared my office with is managing the project and says she'll do everything she can to support me in BF. I'm sure my mum would come into the ward and collect my milk while I was in hospital, I wouldn't have to worry about her topping the baby up with FF, she shares my views on that at least
But what I'm stuck on is whether I should start introducing a bottle feed kind of early on so that the baby is at least used to the feeling of a fake nipple in its mouth!
I've read great things about the Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature bottles, but their pumps (electric or manual) don't get the best reviews (at least on a couple of the websites I've checked)... And I dont know if the hospital grade pumps need special bottles, of if I can express into milk storage bags with any pump and then just use whichever bottle I chose...
When I was in Tesco the other day looking at the TT electric pump a nurse came up to me and said their manual pump is much easier to use, so you could be on to a winner there! The main negative in most reviews for the TT manual pump was that you have to use both hands (1 for the boob, 1 for the pump) or very little of your milk makes it into the bottle!
In theory, even if I don't have to have surgery until the wee one is 6 months old, I'd like to be able to express enough for the 10pm-ish feed so that Moreno could do that one.
I know I'm not supposed to do it until 6 weeks so there is no nipple confusion, but there is a bit of contention over that advice.
God. I just don't know, I'm stuck!
I'm not used to being this confused, I'm normally so decisive!
