***April Sweet Peas*** 204 Babies

Hey girls just a heads up I'm going to be redoing the front page over the next couple days. We already had an April Mommy have her LO. So I figured its about time to start getting things ready for the new arrivals. crazy how time flies.

I didn't know we've already had an April Mommy give birth! Who was it? It seems too soon for it all to happen yet!

god a april baby been born already how mad is that. i still feel like i have ages yet .

I was told by the delivering midwife with my lil girl to seriously consider a homebirth if I went on to have anymore. Had quite an easy time of the birth once it was all under way properly, but it had to be in the hospital as my son had been an undiagnosed breech birth and early so they wanted to be safer, even though his birth was surprisingly smooth.

So this time going for the in between option as it is available to me, the centre is attached to the hospital so if needed medical intervention can occur quickly. But I am forseeing a hopefully uneventful time again

Sounds good to me. I hope all goes ok with you

I think my chances of being in a centre would have gone by today's events. See my thread "32 weeks and off to hospital" Bloody blood pressure. Grrrrr :growlmad:

I just went over and read the thread about seekingbaby#1, her baby is adorable! Scary though!

Thanks. I've just posted in her preemie thread. He was so tiny but so cute. Scary but am really happy he is doing well and putting weight on.

Welcome in Laughing Girl! How organised are you feeling?

(ugh, just can't bring myself to contemplate how wearing pads in my bra AND my knickers at the same time is going to be)

 Yeah... Isn't pregnancy lovely...

I'mn a bit of a freak, I had most of the things bought by the end of the 1st trimester! But I'm not at all superstitious. I honestly can't think what to spend my healthcare in pregnancy grant on, because I don't think I need anything else!

The only thing that is messing with my head is whether I should buy a breast pump now or not, I think I'm going to try to get along to the breastfeeding support group on Monday to see what they think.

Hi Ann, I have bought a cheap TommeeTippee manual one to start off with because I heard its not good to use bottles in the first 6 weeks anyway as baby gets nipple confusion. Also, I am going to try my hardest to breastfeed but I dont want to feel disappointed if I end up formula feeding and I have a £100 breast pump staring at me.. I have been eying up the medula swing pump for a while though, they use it in hospitals and it has good reviews e.t.c x x

I'm so torn because I don't know yet how soon I'll have to go in for surgery after the wee one is here, and I don't have a gastro appt in yet to be able to find out...

If I have to go in within a short space of giving birth then I know my local Community Mothers group can lend me a hospital grade breast pump to allow me to breastfeed, the HV I shared my office with is managing the project and says she'll do everything she can to support me in BF. I'm sure my mum would come into the ward and collect my milk while I was in hospital, I wouldn't have to worry about her topping the baby up with FF, she shares my views on that at least

But what I'm stuck on is whether I should start introducing a bottle feed kind of early on so that the baby is at least used to the feeling of a fake nipple in its mouth!

I've read great things about the Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature bottles, but their pumps (electric or manual) don't get the best reviews (at least on a couple of the websites I've checked)... And I dont know if the hospital grade pumps need special bottles, of if I can express into milk storage bags with any pump and then just use whichever bottle I chose...

When I was in Tesco the other day looking at the TT electric pump a nurse came up to me and said their manual pump is much easier to use, so you could be on to a winner there! The main negative in most reviews for the TT manual pump was that you have to use both hands (1 for the boob, 1 for the pump) or very little of your milk makes it into the bottle!

In theory, even if I don't have to have surgery until the wee one is 6 months old, I'd like to be able to express enough for the 10pm-ish feed so that Moreno could do that one.

I know I'm not supposed to do it until 6 weeks so there is no nipple confusion, but there is a bit of contention over that advice.

God. I just don't know, I'm stuck!

I'm not used to being this confused, I'm normally so decisive! :dohh:

When you are re-doing the front page could I please be moved from 29th April to 22nd April? Technically I'm still due on 29th, but my c-section is booked for 22nd so it makes more sense for me to go there on the list...

I'm still staying team yellow, it is just the date that has changed.

Thank you!

Not a problem I will work on that now. :)

It's so hard to know ahead of time what's going to work. Before we had Freya I spent a fortune on 'natural'-type bottles for when we decided to introduce a bottle.
In the end she got sick at around 3 weeks old and we spent a bit of time in hospital, where I used the hospital pumps (brilliant) to express. They bottle-fed her, using real old-school shaped teats. I don't know how to describe them, but there is nothing much natural about them and here you can buy them really cheaply in the supermarket.

Anyway, when we got out of hospital I continued to bf for another couple of months, supplementing with formula when my supply was not enough.

She point blank refused to use the expensive bottles, but other than that we had no trouble switching between bf and bottle.

That probably hasn't helped you much, if at all. Just thought I'd share my experience.
