Hi all!

Some of us have decided to start a book club. As we are just starting this up, we have not decided on the specifics of it yet and would welcome loads of suggestions.

We need to decide on how often we are going to have the book club (i.e. every week/two weeks/month etc)? How we are going to decide on which book to read..or are we just going to make and discuss recommendations, if we are only going to have one book club or a few in different categories/interest areas (i.e.romance, sci fi etc)...and so on!

I have added a poll to this to vote on how often you would like the book group to 'meet.'

If you like, could you add a post giving some info about yourself and what type of books you like/dislike etc?

Hi!:hugs:

I'm Poppy aka Paula! I have been a member of Baby and Bump since September 2007. I gave birth to my little boy Tristan in October 2008. He is now 15 months old and is so entertaining.

I am a huge book lover, have been since I was a little girl. I have a wide, varying taste in books from literature to historical biographies (especially of women in history - often you hear so much about the famous kings and male leaders, powerful women often get overlooked, so I like reading about their stories).

Favourite authors: loads - but in particular, Toni Morrison, Margaret Atwood, Amy Tan, Alasdair Gray

Favourite book: 'Beloved' by Toni Morrison

Recently read: 'The Enchantress of Florence' by Salman Rushdie (a magical novel about the myth of a lost Indian princess and how she, well, enchanted Florence! Beautifully written).

Reading now: 'The Little Stranger' by Sarah Waters (I will let you know how I get on with it!).

:happydance:

I voted for once every two weeks, and I think we should just have one person suggest a book at a time, every two weeks and post up a link to it and a brief summary then people choose if they want to read it or wait for the next one. :)

About my book obsession....

Favorite Authors: David Starky, Phillipa Gregory, Alison Weir

Favorite Book: Henry VIII by Margaret George

Recently Read: The Time Travellers Guide To Medieval England by Ian Mortimer

Reading Now: Eleanor of Provence: Queenship in Thirteenth-Century England by Margaret Howell

I can't remember the last time I read a fiction book, so this will be good :)

I think the easiest way would be to take turns every 2 weeks to pick a book

I will read anything but my favorites are sc-fi, fantisy, true stories, chick flick tipe books and historical romance.

I didn't see the previous thread but hope I am allowed to join  I am a bit of a book obsessive, I read roughly two books a week.

I think every two weeks is fine. :)

I'll read literally anything. Anything at all.

Favorite Authors: I don't really have a strict favourite.

Favorite Book: Waterland by Graham Swift/ Making history by Stephen Fry

Recently Read: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

Reading Now: The Mayan Prophecy (2012) by David Douglas.

My sister has given me The Lovely Bones to read. Is it good?

Lovely bones is a brilliant book, very well written. There making a film aswell i think

We seem to like similar books - I love the Tudor period. Have you read any Antonia Fraser?

I was thinking... we could all make a book suggestion (i.e. title of the book and a brief description) and then could take a poll and vote on which one we read.

That way we would end up with a book that the majority was interested in reading.

If someone did not want to read that particular book, they could either just opt out of that book discussion - or could join it by giving feedback on a book they had read that fortnight (in case anyone was interested in reading it).

(Saw this on general chatter, so thought I'd introduce myself here too)
Bit of a bookworm - My room is full with books, literally - chest of drawers, shelves, on top of the fish tank, desk, on top of the washing basket:haha: Currently reading The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (for the hundredth time:blush:) Recently read a few Sherlock Holmes books and hoping to move onto Charles Dickens. Into any genre really, as long as its interesting :)

I like that idea

:hi: I'm Vickie, mommy to Hannah which unfortunately does not leave me nearly as much time to read as I used to!

Two weeks sounds good as long as we can opt in and out as it will all really come down to Hannah as to how much reading I get in :haha: Am also in the middle of a book right now that I'd like to finish before participating

I read pretty much anything, romance novels, sci-fi, fantasy, read loads of history books for my undergrad and graduate degree

Favorite books are the Wheel of Time series, the Sword of Truth series, and any Jane Austen book, particularly Pride & Prejudice

I voted every fortnight too:thumbup:

I'll read most things :)

Favorite Authors: Jodi Picoult

Favorite Book: Nineteen minutes- Jodi Picoult
