Beach Bump Graduates!

Thanks Hann I've woken up still annoyed at this woman, thought I would have calmed down overnight but no! It's nice to know there are successful vbac stories out there, and your friend's situation does sound very similar to mine, part of me thinks I should just give it a go, but part of my fear is that the epidural didn't work last time so I'm worried about the pain - they haven't given me any reassurances on that. On the leaflet she gave me (which she didn't bother to talk through) it also says there's an increased risk of perineal damage with a vbac - not sure why but that terrifies me too.

How was your night - did the dummy help at all?

I completely understand the scared factor, after Annabelles birth I was scared and turns out I was right to be as Henry's was worse lol but that doesn't normally happen. The epidural should work, I know they can get it wrong but they shouldn't. When you see the consultant if they really push the vbac say that you want to speak to an anaesthetist because you want definite reassurance that you are going to have a successful epidural after last time. Maybe there is a reason why yours wasn't successful and therefore you can use that in your argument for a c section. To be honest though even after my awful labours if I was to do it a third time I'd ask for an epidural when I got to hospital at 5cm when pain us manageable then just sit it out and wait to be told to push. As for tearing they probably have to give you those figures - I should imagine its higher rate than most second timers because you have the rates of first timers who had normal births the first time if that makes sense. I think it's something like 60% of first timers get a tear of some kind. But remember I had a big baby this time and no tear and I had a scar that could have easily torn open from last time. Also if you take evening primrose oil on the last 5 weeks that can help prevent tearing. I have a few other tips I can share if you end up going down that route.
Hopefully you'll get what you want though but just wanted to try and reassure you that it might not be so bad.

Oh and yes the night was much better! He slept 8.30 - 1.30 (was woken by Annabelle having a complete melt down) then he slept 3-6.45! I'll take that! The dummy was good. I will try to just use it at night though but we'll see :)

Oh Simmy, I feel for you so much, i cant believe what they are saying to you, you are more than justified to want your c section, these blooming mws and doctors really dont seem human sometimes. Hopefully either way it will go smoothly for you hun big hugs.

Hann, great news re the sleep from Henry. Re the dummy, we do have one for Lucas as it served a purpose with Harrison. Hes not overly fussed about it though, sometimes will suck it and sometimes not bother, we havent had to use it at night yet though. I think its do whatever works for you at the moment and dont worry about weaning him off it, Harrison lost his at 14 months with no issues at all.

Lucas is a right lazy bones! He slept from 845pm to 845am and thats coz we had to wake him. Cant complain though!
Im really getting into my studying now, actually enjoying it too!
Taking the boys to see my friend and her little ones today, we are having lunch there then are going to Harrisons new playschool to sign him up from Sept on the day/days we want. Its coming round so quick!

Mel awesome sleep from Lucas, wow so impressed!! You must feel great. Glad you're enjoying your studying. I think harrison will love play school - leo's really enjoying nursery at the moment, i think they're at an age where they're starting to build friendships and actually play with other kids.

Hann i'm glad the dummy seemed to help and you had a better night!

Thanks for your comments re horrid midwife. Am feeling a bit calmer about it now but I'm still def going to mention to my consultant next week how one-sided and unhelpful she was. I'm still unsure whether to insist and fight for the section or just go with the flow. Sigh...

Oh my goodness Henry just slept from 8pm - 3.40am! Woken up to serious engorgement!!

Well done Henry! Amazing sleeping!

Sorry I've been mia again - busy day with a days voluntary work then college. Will post properly tonight x

Wow amazing sleep Hann! Ouch though - can you express a little?

Hi girls I posted a long message Friday night but can't see it :(

Anyway Ajay is with Neel's parents and last night we stayed at Neel's sisters and her hubbies for te night and had loads of drinks. Today were off to the summer time ball at wembely which should be good.

Han - amazing sleep from little Henry - has he repeated it?

Simmy - how long to go now?

Mel - I am so jealous of Lucas's sleeping. Amazing!

X

How was the ball Caz?

Hope everyone had a nice weekend! I can't believe its Monday tomorrow and Greg is back at work for real now so I'm all alone as of tomorrow - scary!! Henry cried almost all day yesterday, think he had wind issues. It was horrible but at least I had family around to help. Really hoping it was a one off. I now have infacol, colic drops and gripe water to give him.
The good news though us that he's been sleeping for longer periods the past few days - even last night he did 8 hours 9pm-5am. I doubt it will continue but it's been nice to have it happen.

Birth talk makes me nervous. LOL. I'm really dreading my tailbone breaking again, it's already sore and painful, so I know it didn't heal right from last time. Really hoping a water birth makes things go a little quicker and easier this time though!

Any one else's toddlers renaming themselves? Katie has started to tell me that she is not Katie, and then chooses a name for herself each day. For two days, it was Toodles from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (she copies all of his lines!) and then today it was Minnie Mouse. She's getting so silly! But I really didn't think the renaming stuff happened so soon!

Hi All

Caz, sounds like you're having fun and enjoying life, i guess it's handy that the inlaws can babysit! How was the ball at wembley, who did you see?

Hann good luck tomorrow, i'm around all day with leo on my own too if you need (e)-support! Good sleep from henry too, going 8 hours is amazing.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend, mine has been hectic, we went for early dinner at a friend's house tonight, I have bought her double buggy off her so finally have it! Will have to play with it tomorrow. Anyway we didn't get back til 10pm so leo's had a very late night. I really hope he lays in tomorrow, but more likely he'll get up at the usual 6am and just be very cranky all day....

I cursed myself by saying something about the sleep! We didn't manage to get Henry to sleep until 9.15pm but we went to bed at 9.30 hoping for a big sleep, well not to be. Annabelle woke 3 times between 10-11 then Henry woke at 12.45 for food. How can he go 7-8 hours for 3 nights then not even 4 hours tonight. Seriously frustrating!!

Frustrating Hann especially with annabelle waking up too! How's it going today otherwise? You must be knackered.

Well Leo slept til 8 which is not bad considering he didn't get to bed til 10pm! But of course I was up tossing and turning for a few hours in the night. Usual uncomfortable scenario!

Not up to much today, I'm laid horizontal on the sofa while Leo watches Dora... Bad mum. Will prob go to my parents later as mum has made dinner for Leo, which helps a lot.

Not long now Simmy - what day is your appointment and will they tell you for sure that day what the decision is? Don't feel bad for the TV watching, we watch TV all the time now, I've given up on stopping it because I need it to help keep Annabelle entertained.

I'm actually managing okay today, I think my body just must fight back as I know I don't have any choice lol. I did get 40 mins rest at lunch time though which is good. Henry has been quite sleepy today unsurprisingly which helps. Annabelle has been so good too, either playing when I feed Henry or sat cuddling me when I'm not. I've got a range of things to put him in like a swing and vibrating chair so that I can focus on Annabelle.
Would really like it if they both slept better tonight though!
I've only got until weds night on my own though as Greg has to work up north on thurs and fri so we are visiting his parents. It will be nice to have help but then again not ideal because we actually could do with getting back to normal routines etc as I'm sure that's why Annabelles been upset etc at night. Mind you on the up side I can out off another trip by MIL as we will have gone up there! Always a silver lining lol ;)

Oh Hann, boo to the lack of sleep. Henry is still so young though. hope tonight is better!
We used a technique with Harrison re STTN and have vaguely done the same with Lucas. Basically, you wait until they do a mamouth sleep, the longest stretch they have ever done. Say 10-5 or whatever it might be. Then the following night if they wake up between those hours you dont feed them, just pacify in other ways until 5am. Basically the theory is they proved all by themselves that they can go that long so you try to just re inforce that in them. It only usually takes one or two more nights then its a natural cycle for them. Im sure it doesnt work for everyone but its worked for us.

Simmy dont worry bout using the TV, You will def do it when you have two!

SB, Harrison is obsessed with Mickey mouse, especially Toodles! lol it drives me crazy. Im currently working out how to attempt to make a mickey mouse bithday cake for him!

Alan off at mo which is nice. Both boys in bed by 830 last night and Harrison woke first at 630am. We had an early night too so it feels nice to be a bit rested. Both been for runs then food shopping then when H wakes up we are popping round our friends as I make cupcakes for one of their birthdays.
Got a fair bit of studying done yesterday too so its all good in the hood!

Sounds like you are doing great Mel and all falling into a routine. Glad the studying is going well.
I totally see your logic with the not feeding in the night but I can't really do that because being BF they feed a bit differently - if they feed at night it's either due to hunger and growth spurt or to boost supply so you have more to give. It's more likely that it was a fluke he did 7-8 hours for 3 nights than the norm, I'm sure the norm is to wake every 2-4 hours at this stage so I wouldn't want to stop him feeding if he needs it. Also I can't tell how much he's taking either during the day so if he doesn't have as much as normal he would need more at night. I think FF can work so differently though but I appreciate the thought. I did this with Annabelle at 8 months but we stopped BF then too so it wasn't available anymore and to be honest she never really asked for it!

Hi girls,

We're in France now for this week.

Han totally understand about bf'ing and the sleeping, plus you must be in agony if he sleeps longer! Hope your mil is ok this week.
Re tv I was always only twenty mins a day but now I'm terrible and just stick it on - lazy mum here too!
Simmy - hope your final apt goes ok too.
Mel - your boys are fab sleepers! Bless them and glad Alan is home too.

So glad to be away - break from the in laws - although it's still not that bad - and work. Ajay was fine flying but didn't sleep all day so was exhausted but were here! We are staying at my parents flat so it's home from home :)

So jealous Caz! Hope you have a fantastic time! Hopefully Ajay will have a big sleep tonight for you.

I'm hoping for a big sleep from my two tonight but I doubt it!

Fingers crossed Han- we are both so tired. It's only 930 uk time and were going to bed! x
