Welcome

Well, I have kind of decided that since there is an Itty Bitty Babies Club we should have a club for those who have larger sized babies, to give each other moral support and share our experiences with eachother! I also thought it would be a good place to recommend anything and everything that helps with having a larger LO :D

*I'm not quite sure if the group name is right so any suggestions would be welcome*

:hugs:

~ ~ ~ ~
Both OH and I are tall, I am 5ft 9 and he is 6ft 4, well he says he has shrunk but he is still taller than me! :haha:

I was always the tallest in my class at school, always ahead of the boys until about 13 years of age. Because of this I used to miss out on things like the soft play kids adventure places or missing out on free chocolate selection boxes because I looked too old when my peers who were older would get some. Oh and the 'is it cold up there?' comments! Okay so I am not really scarred about all this now but when I was little it used to get to me . . . until I could then get served drinks at 15 and not the soft kind. So I hope I can understand what my LO will go through and help and guide her and keep her informed when she grows up. So the point of that mini rant is: I don't want her to miss out on being 'little' just becasue she is big!

Chloe is on the 91st centile and at her last weigh in she was 16lbs and 4oz which was 2 weeks ago. She is very long and even though she is almost 5 months old she is already in 6-9, has been since 3 months and sometimes now we have started to buy 9-12 month clothes even.

I had a lot of watch her weight comments when she was younger as she kept on jumping up through the growth curves but she eventaully evened out.

People are amazed at her when she sits next to other babies that are older than her, she does look so much older than them, is very alert and chatty and I worry sometimes that strangers will expect her to act a certain way when she is actually younger than what they think.

This is her on Mothersday

ooo how big do they have to be to join?

My LO weight isn't that huge (two weeks ago at 20 weeks weighed 16lb11oz) so near the 91st but it is her height! She wanders between the 99.6th and 98th for her height.
Already in 6-9 and babygrows are looking short!

Oo I never really thought of a joining size! I think if they are mistaken for older or don't fit in most things recommended for their size / height / age / weight and are up in the higher percentiles for any reason then they are in! :D

Chloe's weight isn't huge either but she is long. Its scary isn't it when they not even in the next size up anymore!

Well I think we qualify! at 4 months people thought she was 6 months and she is hanging over the end of the changing table!

I think one of the worst things about them being big is people think they should be doing more or having solids. Her tummy is still that of a 5 month old!!!!

Yep! I agree :flower:

I have the very same problem! I have been pestered by my Childminder into weaning her, saying it used to be 4 months and I don't have to do it by the book! My LO is still quite happy on her milk! People always say, awh is she hungry, is she not being fed when she cries, even if she is tired! I did a little test and she still is not interested in food yet, I'm not doing it until she is ready.

I just change on her floor mat as her table is waaay to small for her now. Its good though as she has started to try and roll on the mat now.

She bangs her head in the bath when she is trying to stretch out and splash around!

Hi ladies!

I've got a big kiddo too :) Emma was 20lbs at 4mths old and is over the 97th percentile for height and weight. I haven't weighed her since but I'm guessing she must be somewhere around 22lbs by now (her next doc's appt is on Apr 12 so I'll find out then). She's wearing almost all 12-18mth clothing now since the 9-12mth stuff is just barely long enugh  I am a little surprised at how fast she has grown- I mean, I'm 5'9 and DH is ~6'1 so I knew she'd be big but I never thought it would be this big, lol :)

I'm a little worried about others mistaking her for older too. We've run into a bit of it in our swim class since all the other babies are about 10 mths old but Emma is still bigger than most of them :dohh: The instructor is just a high school student and seems to expect the babies to be able to jump off the side of the pool. Emma can stand with some support but definitely can't jump in like the other babies yet. If someone doesn't know how old she is, they probably think she is the "slow" baby, iykwim. I also worry a little bit about our next doctor's appt. Our doctor has been super supportive of me BFing but last time actually asked if I was supplementing with formula, as if to imply that her growth isn't normal and I was doing something to make her bigger (which yes, it probably isn't normal, but I've never supplemented so was a bit insulted but maybe I was just being overly sensitive too). Last appt was right before a growth spurt so she was all fattened up and hadn't lengthen out yet- I'm hoping she doesn't chunk up again before our next appt. Totally silly to think that but anyway...

We had the same problem with the change table and baby bath. Now her arms are long enough to grab at the mobile above her swing and she's able to put her feet nearly flat on the floor when sitting in the Bumbo so she can push off to try to tip it backwards- I'm gradually running out of safe places to set her down! These big babies get expensive when they outgrow stuff so quickly!

Nice to see the big babies have a special group too :)

Hey can I join? Iv been hoping for one of these groups cus iv read some things in that itty bitty babys club that annoyed me lol,
Jesse is pretty short well for his weight he's on 75tg centile for height he was 21 lbs last time he was weighed and has always been directly following 91st centile, he is just over 7 months, but werea mostly 3-6 / 6-9 clothes he is short though so the bigger sizes drown his legs but he does wear lots of 9-12 tops :) x

Forgot to mention I'm 5'9 and OH is 5'11

 Hello & Welcome Kaites & Boothh

Yey more members! :happydance:

Katies ~ Wow Emma really is shooting up! Do you find you have to pop her in different syles of clothing now?

I can't believe they suggested that you were supplimenting her! Maybe it's just something they have to check  A bit more tact could be used though!

I know what you mean about others thinking Emma should be able to do things becasue of how they look. I think that's why Chloe is branded as 'unsettled' lots by the CM. Not just becasue of weaning, I think she forgets too Chloe is only so young.

I keep Chloe in her car walker most of the time, she has outgrown her swing becasue her legs were poking over the edge and starting to trail on the floor!

Boothh ~ Well were glad to have you here! :D I have read through some of their posts too, just to kind of get an idea to start this group. I think it's hard sometimes, if your LO's are smaller or bigger not to offend the opposite iykwim. :hugs:

It would be nice if when they sold clothes you could mix and match top and bottom sizes to fit rather than a set!

Oh and congrat's on LO no. 2 :flower:

Hello :) May I join??

Its wierd cos I have never thought of Chloe as big. She is a tiny baby to me! But people do comment on her size compared to her age.
She is already in 6-9 month clothes. She weighed 16lb's 3 weeks ago when she was 19 weeks. Must go get her weighed again next week and see how she is doing.
She was following the 91st centile but at the last weigh in dropped down to the 75th.

For Chloe too its her height more than anything. I am from a tall family, I am 5ft 9" myself. But my oh is tiny (5ft 6") and when I was pregnant was convinced she would be small like him!!

Here is a photo that was taken when Chloe was a few days over 3 months. The little boy next to her was 7 months!!

 Hello CatStorey - of course :flower:

Gorgeous picture, she has lovely hair! My Chloe is a little baldie. Any complete stranger looking would think they were near enough the same age.

Did you have a small bump? Just wondering as you thought she was going to be little?

Kte- now that she's bigger, I can buy more of her clothing as separates which is helpful too since she's in cloth diapers and that adds to her already big behind :)

CatStorey- Chloe is a cutie!

I don't have any pics of Emma with other babies for comparison but here's a photo of her at 2 days old and today.

Here's one of her at about 4 days old and a few days ago:

Ooooh can I join too? Jacob was born 12 days early weighing 7lb 2.5 and 56cms long - this is an amazing weight as I had Hyperemesis throughout my entire pregnancy so I dread to think what size he'd have been had I been able to eat while pregnant - he was last weighed at 21 weeks so about 4 weeks ago and he was 18lb 13oz and 65cms long - the weird thing is his length growth seems to have really slowed down but he is still gaining weight - not sure if this is something to worry about or not as he's not exactly a big eater either. Everyone always looks at me as if I'm lying when I say how old he is or they all say oh my he is huge isn't he which I find so rude or they say oh I'm sure he's a hungry boy! He still fits into 3-6 months - just - I find it weird as even though he is big he has always worn clothes for the right age. Oh by the way I'm 5'8 and hubby's just a few mm's shy of 6ft.
This is Jacob at just over 2 weeks and again last Sunday at 24 weeks

I will have to get some comparison pics on when I can get to a computer, how much did your LOs weigh at birth? Jesse was 8lbs 9oz though I had a scan at 39+ weeks and he apparantly measuring a few weeks behind and would be around 6lbs lol! x

It was mainly the odd comment as though wevover feed our babies, or as if they are over weight that I don't like, I think there's enough prejudice against size without labelling healthy babies who happen to be bigger fat! I'm sure people would be offended if we started saying people with small babies don't feed them enough lol x

Can i join too?

cole was 7lb 14oz at birth, he's now 9 weeks (exactly today :) )and weighed 15lb 1oz when he got weighed on monday.....he's in 3-6 months clothes but not for long i think, someone thought he was 4 months at 5 weeks,i love people commenting on his size. my wee big boy :) His dad is 6ft 5 so not suprising he's big, can't wait till he's older and towering over me. (im 5ft not much ) xx

Hello all can i join? I am not particuarly tall neither is fob i am 5'5 and he is 5'8 but baby is big boy! he was born at 8lbs 6oz but his now nearly seven months and wears 9 - 12 months clothes and he is 21lbs! :S He is in the 90th percentile for height, not sure about weight but he is defintely a big boy! I was pestered into weaning him early but I held out to five months when milk wasn't really doing it for him anymore. He loves his food now though his fussy with what he likes!

Deffo think this is a good idea having a group like this!

Ohh yes and it does really annoy me when people say "what you feeding him?" I know they may being friendly but I feel my baby when he cries for food, I don't shovle down lard!! So rude!

Ooooh me me me! :haha:

Earl is a biggun' lol. Forgot to weigh him yesterday but he was 5 months yesterday - need to do his weights and measures tonight for his book. He's in 9-12 month clothes and at 4 months weighed 19lb 2, measured 66cm. I know he's a big lad - people seem to think he's around 7 months, I can see this getting worse now that he's sitting unaided.

Piccies....hmm where to starts. I'll pop a few underneath including the one that the bumpkins (hi Kte and Kaites!!) have seen of Earl with his 11 month old cousin. Granted she was only 5lb something when born and still only weighs 16lb something, but it's a crazy compaison. I'll try to find some good chair piccies too.

Oh and I'm only 5ft4 but hubby is 6ft 2 and little boys always get their height from daddy

Kte - Yeah, my bump wasn't huge. I had 4 growth scans near the end of my pregnancy as I was measuring about 3-4 weeks behind. They said she would be small and I even went out and bought Tiny Baby clothes!!
But when she was born all the midwives were like 'oh my god, she is sooooooo long'!!

Its a shame cos they don't measure length here so I don't actually no how long she is. When hubby's home later I might get the tape measure out and have a see myself.

People do assume she must eat alot. They say, Blimey, what are you feeding her! But actually she has suffered from really bad acid reflux which we have just got under control now with medication and so was only having about 20-25 oz of milk a day. She now has about 28oz so still not loads.

And all your lo's are soooooooo cute :baby:
