Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Autumn was a total grump with her 4 fangs for about a month. The top two took about 2 weeks to come thru and the bottom about 3 weeks after that. Her poor gums looked like they had little white heads on it while they where trying to push thru, she'd not let us brush her teeth or anything.

Did she stop being grumpy as soon as they broke through the skin? Or was she still miserable a while after? (I ask because we kind of assume that teething has finished as soon as the gum is broken, but surely it's still painful while the tooth shifts about into position?)

She was still grumpy for a week or so later until they had come thru properly.

Hi guys. How is everyone? I'm back on days for the next week yay! Had a lovely but exhausting day yesterday. Finished work at 7am, slept for an hour and a half, then went to my nephews birthday party and stayed on for a BBQ in the evening so got to bed at around 9.20pm. Got some good tanning going on and it was so great to be in the sun. James really didnt cope with the heat, was super whingy and ended up spending most of the afternoon in the house with his grandad having cuddles. Perked up once it cooled down a little about 5pm and was pretty happy after that. Went off to the childminders quite happily today.

Are any of the other bumpkins suffering with hayfever? I've had it for a few years and James is following in my footsteps already! He's been sneezing and rubbing at his eyes for over a week so the GP prescribed some Piriton for him. Seems to be helping and he certainly sleeps well on it.

He also seems to be teething again. His gums don't appear to be swollen but he only has the final molars to go as he already has all the other teeth. Hes been chewing on his dummy and drooling like a dog! So been dosing him on calpol cos he keeps getting a fever with it too. Within half an hour of a dose he is visibly more comfortable so he obviously is in some kind of pain.

Colsy- Emma's canines are taking forever to come in too. You've pretty much described both her and her little boyfriend atm  We're also suspecting a food allergy for Emma now too though- nighttime has been rough this past couple weeks and there is something not quite right and we don't think it is just teething (but that's a whole other issue...). I hope Monty's teeth hurry up and break on through so that you can get your happy boy back! :hugs:

do/did any of your LOs pull their hair? lately he's been grabbing his hair and yanking on it. he thinks it's funny because he always starts laughing when he does it. i tell him not to do it, and he jsut does it again :dohh: i dont think he's hurting himself when he does it. i'm assuming it's just a weird phase?

we had this until it was chopped off

Ya she did it for like a month then stopped.

LK: Dunno how you do those shifts! :hugs: Thankfully Chloe seems to be okay with hayfever but I am keeping my eye on it as both Nij and I are sufferers.

Kaites: Hope you manage to suss out what is affecting Emma :flower:

Milo's Mummy - nope but then again, she doesn't have much hair - she yanks at it if she has a bobble in so I tend to not bother trying with those at the moment!

Chloe decided to have a rough night with the teeth last night - I managed to get into her mouth to see what is actually going on. Her top two canines have cut and are working through and almost there, her bottom right one has cut and is working up and her bottom left one has just about cut and is starting to push out. She wasn't too bad as I brought her into bed with me and cuddles seemed to work - she just kept disturbing me with the occasional cry out in her sleep.

I have a hunch that it is salicylates- sounds pretty random, but when I read the list of symptoms, both Emma and hubby share a rather large number of symptoms. Her sleeping also got a little worse after her time in hospital and she was on asprin therapy for about 6 weeks for the KD (salicylates are in asprin) and lately she's been asking for lots of oranges and grapes and I tend to cook lots of tomato based dishes (high salicylate foods)- here I was all happy that she was interested in healthy food :dohh: Anyway, I'm going to have to look into this a bit more- could also be a gluten sensitivity (she was a bit anemic at xmas too) but it doesn't seem to fit as well. Sounds terrible, but I'd rather self-diagnose first and then go to the doctor- we feel like our doctor just tries to sweep our concerns under the rug so I want to be prepared with a bit of info first. I cut both gluten and high salicylate foods out of our dinner last night and it seems to have helped a little bit- she woke a bit less and when she did, she didn't seem like she was in discomfort  Looks like I'm probably going to try a 2 week "detox" for both of us (she's still BFing a little bit- but especially when in discomfort so it should be interesting to see if she also drops a lot of BFs too). It's going to be awful- coffee and all the tasty foods are high salicylate!

So how's everyone doing today?

Kte- I hope Chloe's teeth don't cause her too much grief tonight :hugs:

Milosmommy- Emma did the hair pulling for a few days too :flower:

LK- I hope James teeth finish cutting and settle down for him quickly too :hugs:

Anyway, I better get on with a bit of tidying up before the munchkins arrive. Hope everyone is having a good day :hugs:

good to know milo isnt the only one! hopefully he gets over it soon.

last night we put together his toddler bed (we co-slept with him) and put it next to our bed. he only lasted for 1.5 hrs before waking up :/ hopefully tonight he'll sleep in there a little longer.

milosmummy; harry is obsessed with his hair & always has been; when he's nervous or anxious he grabs for his hair for comfort, and he falls asleep holding a clump too. When he's hyper, he think it's funny to pull at it like a crazy dude & laughs about it so I always figured he'd stop if it hurt him. He like to brush it over and over again too. I think he's quite vain, lol!

Colsy, he could have allergies causing the snotty noses? Something as simple as dust, an air freshener, feather bedding, soap powder or something in his diet? I hope he gets out of his groove soon hun. x

Kaites, do you find Emma gets ill more often now you have other kids in the house?

LittleKitten, OMG YES to the hayfever. it's driving me nuts already :( I really hope harry doesn't get hayfever.... so far he seems fine though. And I hope james feels better soon.

ummmmm, forgotten what else I was gonna reply to or say? Sorry! :dohh:

:hi: Morning all,

Not much to report really - ooooooo did I mention the other day? Chloe has been smooching with her friend Thomas! Cheeky madam! They did it on Friday and yesterday and pull the cutest faces afterwards! Nursery think she said his name yesterday too, kind off, she said it whilst passing him a brick. :cloud9:

She isn't happy when I leave her though at the moment, think its to do with her teeth, it dawned on me on the walk down to work today. Yesterday she ended up in a change of clothes as she managed to get wet at dinner time but they couldn't understand why - then on the way home I gave her some milk and she drinks a little and then lets the rest dribble out of her mouth :dohh: So I told nursery what I had seen and keep an eye on her. Then walking down I had the lightbulb moment - it must be nice and cool so she is letting it sooth her bottom jaw!

We get the drink and dribble or drink and raspberry and it causes fits of laughter.

As always seems to be the case these days, the minute I post on here with a Q about something problematic, the problem goes away. Not sure whether this is a case of me reading and then implementing your helpful answers, or whether it's the more usual story of a behaviour changing because that's what babies do. OMG, when will I learn?! All of these things are phases. That's all they are - phases. They pass. They're hard at the time, and while the particular thing is happening it feels like it will last forever. But it never does.

Don't you agree?

Hope we're all healthy and happy this morn. I'm working this morn and then out with Monty to a baby group this afternoon.

Morning! :coffee:

Wait- no :coffee:- I'm detoxing :growlmad: I really hope this does Emma some good because I'm really missing my morning coffee!!!! Yesterday was pretty rough- I had a horrible headache all day and no patience for the kids, especially when the boys didn't nap. I'm hoping today is a better day but I kind of doubt it- AF has shown up now too  Emma woke up once last night really upset (one more than the previous night but wayyyy less than the previous 2 weeks) so hopefully this will eventually help her out. I have a doctor's appt for her on Monday.

Flora- at first, Emma caught everything that came in the house (I also had some school aged kids in daycare after school at that point too, making things 100% worse) but with the most recent cold, she was only the tiniest bit sick for 1 day and then was fine so it's kinda like her body is getting used to the constant assault of viruses :haha: Let's hope I didn't just jinx things with that comment though!

Kte- We get the dribbling all the time here too  Drives me crazy! That and the pushing the Nuby soft spout sippy cups upside down so that all the water drains onto the table- but that's a whole other issue, lol :) Chloe and Thomas sound cute :) Emma has decided that diaper changes are a good time to come over and hug her boyfriends (I change them either on a mat on the floor or on a low change table)- as soon as they are lying down, she's there flinging herself on them.

Colsy- Glad to hear Monty is out of his funk :flower: Definitely true about everything being a phase

Milosmommy- I hope the toddler bed went well last night :flower: We've got Emma's crib side-carred too but she mostly just views it as a place to play :dohh: The crib matches the height of our bed perfectly so I'm in no rush to change over to the bed since the bed is lower in height. It's nice having the extra space though, even if she doesn't sleep in it much- I often end up partway in the crib :haha:

Well I better go and sort out yesterday's toynado before the kids arrive ready to make another big mess!

colsy - that always happens to me. whether its a pregnancy issue or toddler issue. it always goes away within a day after i finally post about it! :dohh:

well last night milo lasted 8.5 hrs in his bed! which is a whole nights rest for him. lol. only once did i have to wake up and give him his binky. i woke up another time to move him back up to the pillow and in the middle. he moves around a lot, and he was ending up towards the end of the bed and in a weird position. lol. i didnt want that to be the reason he woke up. i hope this is the start of something good :D

Hi ladies!!

Billy's tooth in the back but not far back but it was in middle that had broken thru! At last and I didnt know until today asked DH to hold him then I checked!

My pregnancy is going ok but where the baby is at and it gives me grief by giving me some pain! Feeling its moving since last week :) :cloud9:

When is your lo starts to learn to sleep with safety rail on? Because he climbed and fell two mondays ago and hurt himself and got me thinking we had to do something about it. Hes moving around in the bed but dont stay in one place?

Hope everyone are well and LOs! Xxxx

nanaki - great news about the baby moving! i felt my first thump with this pregnancy at 13+5 and then another at 14+3. but nothing too consistent until 17w.

Thanks Milosmummy! I thought I felt it before last week but I am not quite sure if it is the baby or not! :dohh: Let hope i am able to feeling the baby's movements more regular soon! And it would help to ease my mind with worries! xx

I converted missys cot to the 'toddler' bed the other week and put that safety rail up in the gap until she gets used to it .. she's tried to climb out yet (thankfully) .. I don't think she realises she can get out if she really wanted too!

nanaki- i was surprised to start feeling her so regularly so early on. kicks also were felt outside 2 weeks earlier than with Milo. i guess sometimes it's true when they say you can feel it sooner once you've been pregnant before.
