Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Noah is very very interested in food and watches every mouth full that goes in anybodies mouth. He also grabs at food, if I have him on my knee while eating I have to be very careful he doesn't lunge for the food

Colsy I on occasion give a FF but what I try to do is express in the mornings as I have more milk and do EBM top ups when he's ungry before my boobs have had a chance to fill. Even with the odd FF i'd say 98% of Noah's food is BF

LK ~ :hugs: stay strong, at least you are with your parents and they can offer you some support. Glad James is happy and good new on the poo front too!

Sam ~ I haven't thought about baby rice, I was thinking when Chloe is about 6 months but it depends how hungry she is before then. She glimps at my food too! I think she is just facinated in what I am doing more than what I am eating! She has only just gone 10 weeks tho so is always a tad behind most bumpkins. Like I say, I'll wait and see in a few more weeks time at how she is getting on :D

I've started adding 2 teaspoons to Autumns bottles to thicken it up some as shes on 4, 8oz bottles a day and shes still hungry!! (7am, 11am, 3pm & 7pm) When she first started on 8oz, she was on 3 a day and would go 6 hours between, then she dropped to 4 or 5 hrs between, so I added another bottle a day .. now shes starting to get hungry in between these ones!

I'm trying to hold off on puréed food as I want to try BLW at 6 months. Well see if this rice in her bottles helps a bit.

Hope the rice in her milk helps her out. Chloe still seems very satisfied on the hungry baby milk, I have started to document her more closely on her feeds, before I used to round up her times and how much and how long but I have to put in in a book now ready for when she goes to the Childminder. She is going for a bit on Monday so start her getting used to the lady.

I REALLY want to do BLW as well but I am a little worried how it will work. I have to go back to work full time in March (boo, hiss) which will be more weaning time . (I keep on having mini panic attacks, not becasue I am afraid, just I really enjoy bonding with Chloe, she knows I am dependable, the one who is always there and soon I won't be ). Anyway's, so basically she is going to a Childminder. She will support how I parent but I remeber her saying a while back how she teaches a child table manners with the rest of the children she look after. Obviously I want Chloe to gain table manners but, well, BLW means she can get her hands in there and all messy and experiment. I know the Childminder will make food and blend it etc as we have discussed this but how will she go about feeding Chloe? I know I really need to discuss it with her. It just sucks!!

The Childminder Should follow what you want. BLW will actually save your childminder work as you can just provide some finger food and she can then just pop it onto the tray of her highchair. Ta-da - packed lunches!! For the first couple of months the food is purely for learning, not about actually eating so as long as she is getting all the milk she needs the childminder need not worry. As you know I'm hoping to do a direct swap with hubby so Earl wont have to go to childcare (Another option may well be that we may be moving in with MIL  so she will be looking after him for a while too.) but if he does end up going to someone, then this is what I will be doing.

How is Chloe? I hope that she's ok after her ordeal and that she's healing nicely.

Earl is at the moment lying on his mat kicking his feet down full on onto the floor. It must hurt?! He does this on his changing table too and before we got his new mat it was down onto the wooden table top. I really wish he wouldn't lol.

LK- I hope you're settled in and having a nice calm day with James. You're not the only one to get excited about poo lol - Earl somehow managed to do a poo in his bumbo today, it appears to have laxative properties on him as he was a touch blocked up and he's done it twice so far today, both in his Bumbo?!

I was packing up some of Earls clothes this morning while Hubby had his daddy time. I measured some t-shirts and tops up against him, and they looked like they'd fit. Size 6-9months!! This child surely can't keep up this pace? Granted they are cherokee and they are always on the small size so are probably more like a 3-6 months. I'm going to take the plunge and pack away all of his 3-6 baby grows and vests as soon as they're all washed. They're just about hanging on but I tried a 6-9 on him last night and he seemed a lot more comfy.

Anyhoo's someone needs his nap. I also think he's getting frustrated because he can't get to the dog lol. Best go and rescue him lol. Have a nice day ladies xx

Mornin' Girls!

Well both arms out the swaddle went quite well. I still wrapped the swaddle around her body tho. I put her down at 715pm still awake, and went down stairs. About 10 minutes later she started crying, but we decided she needs to start soothing her self back to sleep, more so as nex Wednesday ( her 4 month bday) she is going in her own room :cry::cry:

Well she cried for 8 minutes and passed out, slept till 730am! SO proud of her :)

I had to swap the bottle to the fast teet today as it the slow one was getting clogged up a bit with the rice. Normally she takes a good 15 minutes to finish a bottle with the slow teet. With the fast one, she was done in 7 minutes hahaha. She didn't dribble a drop either! We tried the fast teet a month a go and it ended up all over her face.

LK ~ I'm glad you've got somewhere safe and are standing your ground. My sperm donor is a drunk/woman beater .. has been for as long as I remember. (he hit me once when I was 15, and I aint spoken to him since) well the pattern you're describing from your Ex, is very familiar to me. The number of times I've seen that man beat up his GF (while drunk) and then he'd be on all fours on the floor, whaling and dribbling like a kid proclaiming how sorry he was and he'd never do it again. Of course he would.
Good on ya girl!! :hugs::hugs:

Kte ~ If your child minder is not going to follow your wishes with Chloe, then I'd say she's not the right child minder for you. That's the sort of person who would give a food to a kid, that the parent has specified no because of allergies.
If you tell her to give Chloe slightly cooked (so soft) un mushed up food, then that is what she needs to do. By March, she'll be what ... 5 to 6 months? .. A baby does not need "table manners" She needs to explore her food. She needs to stop holding YOUR child to HER standards, and listen to what you have to say and abide by your wishes.
*hugs* lady, stay firm in your wishes .. you're paying this woman to look after your daughter, don't let her dictate to you how things should be done.
:hugs:

Chaos ~ By early March she will have just gone 4 months  It's always a little weird as she was born on the very last day of October so sometimes I think she should be older than she is! I think the childminder will do as I wish if I get to have a good chat with her about it, she is very approachable in that respect. The reason I am concerned with the table manners thing is I am worried that she will want to use a spoon rather than let Chloe explore and get nice and messy! Like you say, I pay her so she should respect and do as I wish for Chloe, she is mine at the end of the day! I need to get this BLW 'bible' book to get some more info and facts to back me up!

Once Chloe has outgrown her moses basket she will be going into her own room, something that will be happening sooner rather than later I fear.

Aimee ~ I forgot to say with my 'I don't mind post yesterday' I defo didn't mind, I couldn't get on B&B at the hospital as OH's phone couldn't get internet connection so I could only text to Facebook, it's not that I didn't want to post on here I just couldn't! So it was very much appreciated :flower:

She isn't fully healed yet but keeping it nice and dry, its defo on the mend. Yesterday there was no blood but today there was a tiny bit, her poop was a bit mushy pea like (not the bright green kind) though so I think that set it off a bit. Not as much in comparison to the first time I got the shock! She isn't sore or anything and doesn't seem to be in any pain. She has been so worn out, pleanty of naps! She is okay in herselft though, I think its just all catching up on her.

I know what you mean about where the grows etc are from, the ones that were 6-9 for Chloe were from Boots, but I have other 3-6 months that still fit her fine. I know not to go to Boots in future for clothes!

~ ~ ~
OH just reminded me, does anyone know where to find a teddy hammock? Unfortuantly ebay isn't an option, OH had a run in with them about some fee's, long story, not our fault but basicly it means I can't use our account to bag some bargains!!

Kte - Wilko's are normally pretty good for things like that. I'm certain I'll be needing one for the bath before long lol. Anywhere like that - Boyes? Poundstretcher? I would have said Woolworths too....I really miss that shop.

TBH - Ebay is a minefield at the moment. I've not got anywhere near as many bargains as I did 6 months ago even (I was a bit of an ebay whore as you know lol) but the best thing I've got lately is the Bumbo (£12 inc p&p) but everything else I've just bought new. It can still work out cheaper for me than going to the shop though as we live in the middle of nowhere and the fuel ups the cost, but mostly it's a load of expensive junk! :growlmad:

Oh Dear! Earl is a grumpy sod this afternoon. Growing pains really make all our lives miserable sometimes lol. Still, he'll be in the bath soon and then he'll be happy. He woke up half an hour ago from a lovely nap and I think he wishes he was still in it! lol

Have a nice evening ladies. I've got an absolutel tonne of stuff to do before hubby gets home at 9 so I doubt I'll be on again tonight....been a bit lazy and have to sort out the washing, do the ironing, cook tea, tidy up generally and bake a cake (hubby promised his workmate one lol). Still, off shopping again tomorrow....Payday!! :happydance:

Aimee- we call the Bumbo "the poo-ejector seat" :) Definitely works well at helping things along, lol :) I packed away all of Emma's 3-6 mth stuff a couple weeks ago too. She's over 18lbs now and starting to fit alot of the 9-12 mth stuff now too- she's on the cusp of outgrowing most of the 6-9 mth clothes she got for xmas already :( I can't wait for her to get mobile so that she stops growing so fast!

Kte- glad to hear Chloe is doing better. That must have been pretty scary :hugs:

LK- glad to hear both you and James are okay. It makes me laugh to think about how we all get excited about poo now :) That's great that the formula change has made such a big difference.

Chaos- aww, they are growing up too fast! We've had Emma in her own room on and off since birth- it's just across the hall but somehow it does seem far away.
Now that Emma's teething and waking in the night again, she's in our room- I'm lazy and don't like having to trudge across the hall in the middle night, lol. It's a good excuse to keep her in our room a little longer though ;)

Well, I've got a grumpy camper too- poor baby is having a bad teething day so she's had a dose of baby tylenol again. I took her out shopping to the other side of the city today- didn't buy anything but the car ride lulled her to sleep nicely and it got me out of the house, which I needed. Anyway, Emma is starting to wake so I better tend to the teething beast... :) Hope everyone has a good night!

hey all! well, we finally got the virgin media package sorted out so i have inet again. we moved 4th jan, then got snowed in, lol. everything is going slowly on the unpacking & redecorating front. we hae the kitchen, bathroom & dining room done & we're about 1/2 done in the living room, but that's it so far. OH has been working constantly coz we're kinda broke, so it's just been me m harry at home & i've found it impossible to get things done coz harry still wont sleep during the day much (20 min snoozes after a feed, rather than a real sleep) & has been waking up every 2-3hrs a5t night again too. a couple of times i've given him a ff top up just to fill him up so he sleeps longer so i can actually get some stuff done! i dont even have time to pump these days either & totally used up my ebm frozen supply too, dammit!
How is everyone? I read back a little bit, but do9nt have time to reply, sorry! harry has conjunctivitis (sp?) & another cold so he's being a git, lol!!!

:happydance: Welcome back Flora! Sounds like you done alot really considering!

Evening all, quiet here today, hope everyone is okay :flower:

Just relaxing at the mo but Chloe is slowly waking up for food so will be off to sort her in a mo, food and get her ready for bed. I found some cheap teddy hammocks online, I got two for a grand total of £7.01 including postage!

Hey girls. Hope everyone is well. We have had an OK day. Had an argument with my nan cos she wouldn't let me stay with her cos she wants to make a go of things with her new boyfriend, yet she has offered to let my ex stay with her when he comes down to see James! Takes the piss. Now not going up tomorrow because I am being nice and letting him keep my car for a few weeks til he can get another cos its the only way the rent is going to get paid. But he is coming down on Sunday to see James and bring my phone and some other bits.

Poor little man has a poorly arm now. His cousin who is 3 accidentally stepped on his arm when they were playing on the floor. It was literally like a second and she didn't step on it hard but obviously he is only tiny and he didn't half scream. Have given him some calpol and a nice cuddle and he slept for an hour and is now quite happily playing on the floor, chatting to nanny's Mickey Mouse teddy lol.

Little piglet is now downing 6oz bottles at bedtime and 6.30am so I have made him up 7oz bottles for those feeds as well as his 6oz bottles for during the day time. See if that makes him happier. This afternoon he took 4.5oz at 1pm and then another 4.5oz at 3pm.

Evening all

Well I am worried I have mastitis, need to get registered with a GPs now ive moved and get seen next week. Noah is still feeding well, so i'm hoping the pain passes soon.

Been trying out the moby wrap that arrived today, got a lovley chocolate brown one and Noah just loves it, he snuggles in and falls asleep  I can see its going to be used alot.

Sounds like you've got loads done Fleur, wish our internet was on having to use a mobile connection. Should be on by end of next week though fingers crossed and then i'll be turning into an ebay junkie selling off everything we dont need.

Evening ladies,

Hope we're all ok. Good to see you back on Fleur! It sounds to me like you've been a busy bunny - unlike me who quite franky has been a lazy swine today! I should have done soooo much but I really could not be bothered at all. I wanted to cuddle up on the sofa, and Earl did not complain. He's gone to bed now, having had 7oz of milk and actually stopped drinking to have his stories  I normally wait for him to stop to be winded (about 5oz in nowadays) but after 2 oz he just spat his bottle out and just sat looking at me. I got his storybook out....we found out about Mr Straw the scarecrow today :haha:...., he stared at all the pictures, then afterwards he took his bottle and polished off almost the entire bottle with only a few dregs left in the bottom. Bless him!

I didn't go shopping in the end...I had a lie in instead as Earl only woke at 5 then 8.30 and to be honest, I did not want to get out of bed to go out to the shops. I have to go tomorrow though as Earl is down to his last days worth of food (got a stash of cartons but we all know what that does to him).

LK- I have had to give Earl 6oz every 2hours 15 minutes today, and he still took 7oz at bedtime! I will be putting him up to 7oz once I've been shopping tomorrow lol. They are right little gannets - isn't there supposed to be a smaller growth spurt at about 3 months, before the MEGA HORRID one at 4 months strikes. Judging by the fact that Earl is now happily snuggled up in his 6-9 month pyjamas, I'm thinking maybe this is it lol. I hope that you're feeling better now that you're safe and sound and I hope James's arm is ok...calpol and hugs sounds like a definite cure to me!

Kte - good find on the hammocks. Where were they from?

Hmmmmm...I really should get up and sort the kitchen out. Hubby is bringing home some tea so I just need to get plates etc ready. I'll get up after Eastenders lol.

Lol, yeah just finished watching Eastenders Aimee (although technically I am not supposed to watch it 'live' due to OH's job, we end up watching it on catch up demand a day later!) So I was being a bit naughty but I get sooooo bored at this time of night!

Thankfully Chloe has started to go to bed about 7 / 7.30 so if she keep's it at that I can seem me getting an 'early night'. Better than her past 9.45 efforts! Just going to make a few bottles up in a few mo's.

Oooo hammocks ~ I got them from The Baby Catalogue. I noticed that they do bath nets for toys too!

I started reading books with Chloe but stopped around Christmas, must get into that again, she has loads, so many we need another book shelf for her already!!

LK ~ Hope James' arm feels better soon :flower:

James's arm is much better. He is being a little bugger tonight. Has only taken 3oz of his bottle and is led in his moses basket watching weeds! Won't eat anymore or sleep lol. FOB is being a total cock and now wants to take me to the housing place on Monday and look after James while I am in there. Get frickin real.

Morning all, wow its rained so much here loads of snow has gone..... hopefully will be able to escape the house soon.

Hope Jame's arm is ok LK, they are hardy little things babies (or so my OH says)

Boob is still killing, sat here with hot water bottles on them.

Noah is being indulged with a little cbeebies (he loves timmy time)

Hope you feel better soon Maffie :hugs: Any luck getting a doc's?

Chloe loves Timmy Time too, she loves a Shaun the Sheep teddy we have so we put on Timmy Time and she was quiet and watched all the way through!

Very quick hello girls, just to say that things have improved big time since I last wrote on here a few days ago. I had a really bad week emotionally, as I think some of you worked out;-) Monty was going through some kind of bad patch, but no idea whether it was a growth spurt or teeth or what. Either way, he has now cheered up massively (although he has this minute started crying LOL!) and so have I. Think it was just a bad week for all of us and we have now settled down into being very much more "normal" again. Seriously he has ben a different baby the past 3 days! We're off car shopping now as ours is about to expire  I shall say a very sad farewell to my lovely little Peugeot :-(

Afternoon girls. Having a much better day today. James slept til 7.15am! And has so far been asleep for 2.5hours this afternoon. He is so much more chilled than he has been for a while. Not particularly looking forward to tomorrow cos FOB is coming down. Will be difficult cos he is such an emotional person and all he does when we speak is cry and beg me to come back.

Evening everyone,

I've had an ok day....knackering but ok. Earl is having some awful growing pains. I normally hold Earl to my left so that my right is free (I think it's also slight habit from when he was tiny and we couldn't hold him on his left had side). However, today, Earl's shoulder was hurting him and if I held him with his weight on his right, he would wriggle and squirm and whinge. In the end I would have to put his arm down my side or swap sides, which has made me feel lost completley lol.

I went shopping this morning. Got a months worth of shopping, including formula for £100!!! God bless the butchers and greengrocers. I went a bit nuts in the greengrocers and just got loads....had to give the lad my basket and go back in for more lol....and it still only came to £10!! I love veggies! I'm also trying to figure out how to make our normal repertoire of meals BLW friendly (thinking that if I start now it will be second nature by the time we actually get to that stage) and tonights tea is pretty easy....sweet chilli pork pittas. Yummers! Pittas stuffed with chunks of pork, onion, peppers and mushrooms, all smothered in sweet chilli sauce :cloud9: I've managed to plan all the meals for the next 28 days!!! And all the food's in - so I really don't have to care now. Such a relief!

Hope we're all doing well today though.

Colsy - I'm glad you're feeling better. We all have times like that. Today was one of those for me....whingey baby equals tired and grouchy mummy and untidy house lol. Still, hubby' is home in one hour. Just got to whip round and get tea ready....I'm so looking forward to it lol.

LK - Good luck tomorrow. Its a shame when things end up like that....my ex was really cut up when I broke up with him (hadn't realised he was about to propose....whoops ) and was in tears down the phone to me every night for over a month. He made me a CD, sent me cards and flowers, all sorts. NEVER once did he actually come to see me though (long distance, me in Yorkshire and him in the Midlands) which I thought was hilarious! :haha: I can't have been that important after all lol.

Maffie - I hope you're feeling better. :hugs:

Right, time to get off my A**E! I have absolutely no motivation lately....I think I'm using Earl as an excuse lol :dohh: Is that naughty?

Maffie ~ Try putting a cabbage leaf on your boobs and massage them... Good Luck hope the pain eases soon...

Evening all...

Had a busy couple of days... I'm shattered now LOL

Took MIL shopping yesterday morning collected her at 9.30am; finally arrived back home at 3pm... Talk about a bloody long day; shopping took us all of an hour and a half... Then they started on the family history.... Three hours later we leave heading to the clinic for CC's jabs...

Boy did she cry... Poor little thing, she was so upset; thought for a minute OH was gonna start blubbering too... She did stopping yelling once we made her next appointment; and started up again, stopped looked blank; obviously forgotten what she'd been crying for ... LOL

She's growing well, got a big thumbs up for still breast feeding; and told not to start the solids at all until she 6 months... She's a right little porker; now weighs in at 12 and 1/2 pounds... She's starting to sleep most of the way through the night, occasionally waking for a feed at 12.30 ish... LOL or like last night she was not going to sleep; settled at 11.30... LOL and was all smiles when I woke her at 8.30... It was still after 10am when we got out the house...

OH starts work next week, getting an advance of wages to cover the mortgage; but at least he finally going to work; not sure if it's Monday he starts or Tuesday; But definately next week... Can't wait to get him out of the house then I can get on with the housework...
