Cake Inspiration Needed :)

I hope someone can give me some ideas. Its my sons birthday in a couple of weeks time and I decided rather than buying a cake I will make my own

Problem is I am not what you could call a cake making person, but am up for the challenge. I can do a basic sponge but I wanted to do a twist with it. I cant put raisens in as son doesnt like them. He also doesnt like chocolate cake!

So if you have any ideas what I could do to make it more than just a sponge I would be grateful.
