Canadian Moms & Moms to be!

uhhh really wish I hadn't read this thread right after dinner :haha:

About vaccines, I am ALL for them in most cases. But the flu shot, not so much. And I've worked in medical offices for the last 7+ years too. I dunno. It's one of those things where a new vaccine is created every year, and while they are "tested"... they're NEW. Meaning side effects aren't fully known until they start popping out in people. And I don't trust that.
I don't want to start a debate or anything, but that's just my opinion (and opinions of nurses/doctors I've known personally). I mean, I don't think there's some conspiracy with vaccines like some people do...... but I just don't trust something that hasn't been around long enough to fully understand it.

Anyway, not much eventful going on here. Thanks for the tips on finding a bumper ladies, will definitely check that out!

Hey girlies!
Had a great night of shows at the Zoo tonight. Fun and lots of kid cuteness! :)
I love it when I see whole families dress up together! :)
And having a great time visiting with the ILs. They are such great company. MIL and I are going to do all sorts of fun girl stuff tomorrow - yarn store!! IKEA!! clothes!!!! :yipee:
I may need to haul both boys with us, though, as I am sensing that my darling husband needs a break. Poor fella.

Hope everyone is well - I'm just sort of bobbing on and off as I can right now. So effin' busy.
Not really wanting to have a big vaccine discussion, but we vaccinate fully. Flu shots are tested, but they are not necessarily accurate to the strains that actually hit. That's why they are considered ~20% "accurate". I plan to get them until all kids are over the age of 5; after that, we will probably only do it if we are travelling, or if there is another H1N1-type of threat. I think the suggestion that vaccinations are linked to allergies and asthma is ridiculous. I've heard several allergy specialists give interviews about over-cleanliness and lack of exposure to regular microbes as a huge culprit, as well as environmental toxins. And they have proper empirical data and scientific study to back them up. The whole Big Pharma/government conspiracy stuff is not something I buy into at all.

Tiff - Vit D is fat soluble, but you would have to exceed a very high dosage to reach toxicity danger.

I totally agree sarah with the allergy comment! Kids need to be outside, they need to be dirty once in awhile... they need to get sick to build up immunities :D

I definately don't think there is anything wrong with the flu vaccine... the only one I dont like is gardasil. I am not sure about the chicken pox either.

My ffun is over haha back to work today and most of the week :( Peytons finally started sleeping until 6:30 the last ew days and im worried this is going to mess it up. I am afraid he is going to sleep until after I leave too :(

Sorry you have to work all week Joss :(

I also agree that kids need dirt haha. I keep our house clean but I hardly ever "sanitize"...like I'll wash things with soapy water but not disinfectant or anything. I let Alia eat food off our floor too hahaha. The only thing that really was too much for me was when she bent over the grocery cart and put her mouth on the handle
But I was/am very healthy and I think a lot of it has to do with my parents being very underparanoid about germs, etc.

I've let Hannah eat a pear that fell on the floor of the mall  Yep great parent

getting the kiddo's pictures done today (well just a shot of her in her Halloween costume because Wal-mart has a cheap deal going on)

hope it doesn't mess up Peyton's new sleep schedule Joss :(

:hi: Sarah, glad to hear you are having a good visit :hugs:

I don't get into the whole vac debate... we vac, slightly delayed though. And the flu shot isn't "new", it's just got a new strain inserted every year. We do the flu shot, have since my brother got sick years and years ago.

sorry I've been away. October is always a bit of a rough ride for me. Been reading, just not posting much

:hugs: Terri :hugs: Missed your pretty face around here!

That's awesome that you guys got a good deal on the photos Vickie  Can't wait to see the results.

We do a delayed vacc schedule as well. :)

:hi: Hi Terri!! :hugs: Nice to hear from you!!!

There's a deal at a local photographer's place here where you bring in a canned good donation and receive a 5x7 shot of your kid in their Halloween costume :D I think I'll take Alia....Joss it's at the photographer's that you usually go to...About Image I thinK?

:hugs: Terri, understandable. You are missed though :)

Hannah ended up on a delayed schedule but that was mostly from sickness :haha:

That's an awesome deal Melissa!

The photos were okay, I liked the last ones we had better but since I was only going in for one pose (and got a free 8X10 in another pose because we have the smile savers card) I wasn't upset

we got some Christmas shopping done as well!!

They had some good deals going on and we had some coupons. We got Hannah a Thomas the train lego set that looks pretty cool (she is in love with Thomas right now for some reason), a Dora umbrella, some hair clips, and Minnie Mouse dvd

 And she told me she's going to ask Santa for some Minnie Mouse socks and cheetos :haha:

I can't resist sharing a pic of my little shark :)

Minnie mouse socks and cheetos? That makes it one easy shop for Santa when it comes for Hannah! :haha:

Adorable Amanda! :cloud9:

oh her list grew as the day wore on (and we were in Disney store) to pretty much every stuffed animal in the place

adorable pic Amanda!

Ahhh, kids. I can't wait for Claire to get to that stage. She still doesn't really understand Santa at the moment. I think it'll hit through to her after this year, hard to separate when Christmas and her Birthday are only 5 days apart.

Quiet in here! Guess everyone else is out having lives? :haha:

no melissa... i've never been to about image, but she is good... I know people who have gone to her. I may go... who knows haha... im supposed to work but I dont have any child care.

ya Peyton eats anything off the floor haha

https://www.thedecoratedcookieblog.com/2011/09/halloween-mummy-cookie-pops-guest-post.html

we made those with Hannah (Rach sent me the recipe :D) though I used Halloween M&Ms for the eyes instead of those candies as I couldn't find them and we just spread the royal icing on (homemade--it's just icing sugar and corn starch) and stuck the eyes and the white strips on all at the same time because I wasn't about to do all the waiting it asked for

they turned out pretty cool!

Hi Terri. :hi: Hope all is well!

Amanda - Very cute picture of Andrew the shark! :)

Vickie - Those cookies/pop thingies look really yummy!

So not much going on here. Just hanging out until its time to head to the Halloween dance! :)

Oh, and I definitely agree that kids need to be exposed to dirt and germs. Lets face it, kids are going to get sick... whether it be from school, playgroup, the mall, etc. And there's no point trying to protect them from everything because germs WILL find a way in eventually. :haha: And being exposed to it on a regular basis definitely keeps their immune systems stronger I think. ;)

Nope, I don't have a life. I'm just listening intently for Anberlin. She's projectile vomited 3 times in 3 hours, two of them were 10 minutes apart, but she's been okay for an hour now. Sent my husband out for food. Now I'm watching Private Practice and waiting for hockey.

Pretty much the story of my life.

Had a bit of a life tonight, went to visit OH's nephew and IL's for a while. B went to sleep and we watched the first episode of True Blood. We caught a few episodes of season 2 but are starting it from the beginning now.
Now OH is getting ready to go to work and I am crossing my fingers that my lovely daughter wants to sleep for a few hours in a row tonight.
On the possible teething note, her cheeks were fairly pink this evening so I am hoping that teeth will be coming soon for her. She has had a bit of a runny nose the past few days but So have I so I may be completely off and it may just be part of this cold that we have had.

Cute picture Amanda.

No life here :hi:

I've just been cleaning like a madwoman today. Nesting is in full force!!!

Joss - Oh I thought she was the one you go to usually...my bad! :winkwink: That sucks you have to work :( Do you work all night?

Amanda - Seriously cute shark!!!
