Canadian Moms & Moms to be!

I suppose Mike never had a choice. He had to learn it all on his own. Now I hope he learns to get off his ass and get a friggin job. Last severance cheque tomorrow

Amanda - YAY for passing the GD test! :D

I don't think P has ever taken either of the girls out on his own. :nope: Which sounds weird, but its true. He watches them himself at home, but has never gone out with them.

I will definitely be sending Kyree to JK next year too, even though she'll only be 3. Right now she does the pre-school class once a week at the Y and loves it. It's been great at teaching her how to take direction, listen for story time, etc. I think school will be great for her. She could probably go now tbh. :haha:

So I hope you ladies are doing well! I just got back from the gym and I'm heading to bed shortly... Im pooped!

Tom has to take the kids out haha... Tom had his friend over for football on sunday actuallly and they took the kids to timmies and giant tiger. I thought that was really cute :D His friend hangs out alot with us, the kids love him.

Tom bought Jasmine peter pan and return to neverland on ebay and it finally came today so Jasmine watch both movies while I cleaned haha... She loved them :D return to neverland made me cry at the end though hahaha

Oh I forgot to say earlier, I love that dollhouse Joss! I want to get one just like that for the girls someday, but this Christmas I have to ATTEMPT to be somewhat frugal. Last year I spent a small fortune.

I dont think I've seen Return to Neverland? Might have to watch it though! :haha: I like tearjerkers!

Oh ya, kate, I only got the dollhouse because it was on sale that week for $50 off plus I had gift cards that equaled $50... so technically I got it half price. It will be her big present and she wont get much else.

Return to neverland is a good one. I hadn't seen it until today. It was made fairly recently and is about Wendy's daughter going to neverland haha

Brian def. does everything I do, he just doesn't take babies out of the house alone. Plus he has ADHD and gets distracted and doesn't remember to bring things lol. He brings Helena all sorts of places now though.

Hi Ladies!!

Amanda great news on the test!!!

And Joss, great dollhouse!! I have no idea what to get Peyton this Christmas!? I don't think she'd really "get" a kitchen or dollhouse...hmm...we'll see I guess.

We're doing JK here. Peyton will turn 4 in august and then she'll go to JK that year. I find JK totally depend on the kid though. I have been in a JK/SK class and some of the JK's were more mature than the SK's...but on the other hand...some of the younger JKs were still really baby-ish.

And daddy parenting...I have to say Nathan is a star. I mean he has his faults like anyone...but he is seriously the best daddy I know (I might be biased:haha:) He'll get P up, fed, dressed, even attempt to put hair clips in her hair. He takes her out along all the time. In fact when she was a newborn and I was a zombie that first month...he took her to all her apts. alone. Bilirubin test, hearing test, etc... He's the one who does bath, snack and bed at night. I really think I have a keeper. :cloud9:

Alright, well just poked my head in for a bit...back to work now!

Thanks for the preschool/JK talk, who knew how complicated this stuff could be!

Elyse will be 4.5 the September she's due to start school so I definitely want to put her in preschool for next September if not this January. We have a few places that run "universal preschool" - which is free for kids 3+, but you have to live in a certain area and I think we live too far to the nearest one.

I've decided on school for Elyse- I want her to go in French immersion, Andrew doesn't really see the value, but even if it doesn't directly benefit her employment or anything, I think a second language opens sooo many doors for interesting experiences like exchange programs, and my dad grew up speaking French and English (his mom didn't learn English until her teens but his dad never learned French)... I always enjoyed it in school, can still understand it well and read it but not speak it very well :( so it's important to me. And she's going to a Catholic school too, because we are Catholic and I feel like the schools are a bit better here in the separate board :shy:

What should we be focusing on for preparing for school though? Elyse can count to 20, knows colours and shapes but the alphabet just seems uninteresting and a lot to remember still... I'm so worried that she will be behind and it will be my fault! But I'm pretty sure I knew like NOTHING when I went to school. And to people wanting to put their kids into French immersion (or Mandarin like Wendy?) what are you doing to prep them for the other language??

Andrew was also clueless with a newborn baby but now Elyse and him go out on their own all over, she loves it and he does too- she can ask for what she wants rather than him having to interpret cries and figure out what she wants lol and now that she's potty trained he only brings a spare outfit and they're off. It makes me sooo happy - I think daddy time is adorable!!! And I prefer him to be out with her rather than making a mess at home or letting her watch TV all night with him... Obviously he does bedtime too every night due to my work schedule.. And I can't say I mind - she never goes to bed for me without stalling. He can't dress her though- he puts her in mismatch prints and clashing colors and frilly socks with track pants and all kinds of stupid outfits.. :haha:

:hi: everyone!

School - not sure what we are going to do cause we are still debating. I want to homeschool and DH wants language immersion so we'll see where that ends LOL! At least daycare right now does a lot of the stuff a preschool would do, so I don't think E is missing out.

DH is just as good (sometimes better) at taking the boys out. He always has been willing, as long as he has milk for the nursing baby. He does get a little tense if I don't leave him milk and I take off to do something, but if he has milk, or once E was weaned, he has no problems just taking them where ever. It's pretty cool to watch.

Tasha, don't worry. You'd be surprised at how many kids go into Kindergarten and don't know their alphabet. It's funny, because the teacher will mention this to parents and parents go berserk, as if it's not their responsibility, lol.

Zoe DOES know all her letters and can recognize them all. That was a huge focus for us because we knew she would be going into school with a disadvantage so we wanted her to go in with some sort of advantage. She won an award from her teacher for being one of only 4 students (out of 18) who could recognize all her letters. So don't worry if Elyse isn't interested...she won't be the only one who doesn't know them.

Morning! Operation "baby sleep on her own" went well last night. we'll see if its a fluke or a new leaf tonight!

Im so impressed by Hannah and Alyssa (but honestly Hannah is more advanced than Alyssa) them being the only 3 year old i see regularly - with counting and alphabet. i know that i didn't know that much going into kindergarten at the age of 5 (born end of august so i had always just turned the right age for the school year). Im paranoid i should be doing more with J now LOL. but we do a sensory discovery class at the EYC, as well as sing and sign... i don't think she's quite ready for flash cards yet

ok - so maybe baby slept, but i didn't and proof is that i was sitting here drinking my tea, writing that post and thinking my tea tasted funny... and i got up turned on the light and looked, i didn't put a tea bag in my cup... it took me half the mug to figure this out :dohh:

Claire knows the alphabet and can count to 15. Never underestimate the power of Sesame Street, I totally contribute that to Claire's ability to do both of those. I'm horrible with flash cards, I barely use them with her.

i think maybe J should get some sesame street dvd's for xmas... good idea Thanks.

Tash, if you like, I can go through my files and try to find the Kindergarten curriculum and you can have a look at what is expected from kids. Let me know :flower:

Brig that would be awesome!! I can probably look online.. don't go out of your way but if you ever bump into the information or something I'm all ears!

I guess Elyse is not 'behind' with the alphabet- she is 2.5 :shy: I still have 2 years to have her ready for school basically. But I'd rather get things crossed off the list early if it makes sense.

No worries! I started looking after I posted and here it is! hopefully I can attach it.

Nope...too big...Ok, let's see if I can link you to it.

We don’t have Junior Kindergarten here either.

Yay for passing the GD test Amanda!
