Cheap formula

There are no adverts for milk under 6 months, but the ones for 6 month + are so bloody vague you don't even realise they're for 6 month + most of the time

Ive found asda cheapest on cow & gate.

Only one Seth used to take as well, he's a good boy :) lol

There are adverts for formula milk ...they just don't allow discounts etc and you can't get points on shopping for baby milk.

What do you mean by points on shopping for baby milk?

its a rewards system some shops do. 100 points for £1 off your shopping for example

Oh is it 6 months plus - never noticed myself its all the same method.

Toria whats the issue? Whats crawled up your ass an died? Seriously your approach on this thread regarding formula feeding and adverts is pretty appauling and anti looking.

Costco and Macro do sell formula as i had my mum take a look for me but tbh its really not any cheaper ... perhaps saving you £1 on a £25 spend.

Even nappies and stuff i dont find much cheaper either ... maybe £1 or £2 on a box of 100 odd nappies

Lidl is cheap for formula i used to get dd's follow on from there when she was on it x

Lidl? Own brand or something or do the stock what the super market does.

TBH if this is your choice of method I wouldn't try to cut costs and use foreign brands from outside your own country. I love a good bargain but I wouldn't try and cut costs on milk - My babies are fed and provided for before me and if that is done then the rest is a bonus. Obviously there are low income families ...if your on low income and in the UK visit here: www.healthystart.nhs.uk you also if meet the criteria get vouchers whist you are pregnant.

That is why shops won't count certain products on your clubcard/BOOTS cards etc because theres not much come back. BOOTS always have triple points on baby stuff but they must be making their money back with the company because they do things along side huggies and pampers like the changing bags etc they are promoting their brands ...never for nothing these things.

Regardless of the come back £££ wise if shops stock every day needs it attracts the customer to spend more money within their store like if Tesco stocked forumula and ASDA did not where would the customer go with a child needing this product to do their weekly shop. Its the same with local shops I have a spar & co-op I usually end up going to the furthest away because they stock something I buy often and the other one doesn't and I always buy more than that one item.

I thought that formula was all totally price controlled so EVERYWHERE has to stock it at the same price? I'm currently stocking up on the little cartons for my return to work and they are 57pm EVERYWHERE I go.

I'm not going there on the adverts!!

I'm all for a bit of bargain hunting but I'm suprised someone would constiously look for the cheapest brand. Yes I'd look for the cheapest place to buy the brand I wanted / baby needed but not try find the cheapest actual one. If someone posted where can I find the cheapest foods or veg and cuts of meat to feed my kids would people be  or am I being too idealistic?

They sell the top brand stuff like normal supermarkets just cheaper its uk stuff tho x

I can have an opinion on formula advertising without being anti-formula Wobbles  Not meaning to come across anti-formula..

See i use the ready made stuff and only Asda and Sainsburys sell the bigger cartons around here ... i used to be a big Tesco shopper but since they dont sell what i need i go to the others.

I dont think the OP is trying to scrimp on cost for the sake of quality if i understood it right? Just trying to find a way of perhaps saving some money over time ... you dont know if you dont ask right?

I think that was the point PP. Formula is pretty expensive really if you think about how much you would go through. I only formula fed for like 5-6 months but it must of cost us a fortune. The same as anything, if you can save £1 on the same brand somewhere else, you'd go and get it right? I dont think she was saying she wanted to compromise the quality of the milk. And anyway, if its unhealthy they wouldnt be allowed to sell it.

Also you can get healthy start vouchers for milk and stuff might be worth looking into? We found out about them a bit too late.

Also I dont see the problem with formula advertising. Alcohol is advertised, surely thats worse?

Toria Im not even getting into this with you ...your reply was short, rude and unnecessary ...If I asked you why you thought this I know the answer so its a case of if you have anything good to say say nothing.

Do I really have to start user grouping these sections to avoid the unneeded comments.

Jee you'd think people see an advert and can't make their own minds up and they are blind to other choices - that thick they were hypnotised by an advert to decide formula milk was the option they wanted to use.

Nothing 'bad' about an advert about milk for babies just like theres nothing bad about none eco nappies (pampers/huggies) or beer that causes illness and addictions to alcohol and adverts that pull you in to loans, credit cards and life debt.

We use generic formula. Can't afford the name brand stuff now that we've got two kids (poor lil dude is getting the cheap stuff while Char had the expensive stuff). DUnno if y'all have generic forms of it though. The one we get is $10 cheaper than the name brand for the same exact thing.

I thought that but I think there can be a matter of pence difference although my local co-op its around £1 more exspensive and the same with my local chemist. Different on cartons - they are a lil more.

I've just never trusted lidl after a bad experience a couple of years back now ...tub of colesaw full of hairs

Eeewww @ hairy coleslaw.....

Thanks for clarifying PP & Linzi :) I suppose the other thing is if you can find the one that's the best deal and try that first and you LO likes it, you'll save money over time. I've been fortunate with my 2 that they took to the first formula I offered them which was the one my mum used with me with #1 and the one my sister used with her LO with #2 :) But then they'll eat anything as they're a pair of gannets....:dohh:
