child benifits UK girls....not good news

I feel if one parents salary isnt enough to pay for everyones needs, then both should work. rather than 1 work/1 claim, or neither work etc.

As already stated it is now always better off to work than it is to claim, this is the reason the benefits system is being overhauled.

Stay at home all you like, its when people claim benefits for the priviledge that gets me. We dont all have that luxury. i dont see why i should leave my baby at home, while others choose to stay behind and claim a chunk of my taxes to do so.

Anyone else want to have a go at hayley today? :dohh:

im not getting into an argument with u...you clearly think im scum but one day u may fall off ur high horse good bye

 I don't understand why you are singling Hayley out.......she is making valid points and is not targeting anyone.

And i think you are the 1st person in this entire thread to say the word 'scum' so clearly you have a problem with how the world sees you and not Hayley.

Oh and for the record, I too have nothing agaist SAHM's. But only if you can afford it, and it not state reliant.

just to say, in the 50's and 60's mums did work and even way before that they did too, especially through the war,
grandparents looked after my mum and dad, so thats not strictly too, and in the 70's znd 80's something call fis (family income supplement) came out my mum was a working single parent and she claimed this

i dont even know u but it seems you feel both parents should work and put their children into nursery when that isnt always as easy or worthwhile for some familys. Back in the 50's 60's etc the mother stayed at home thats how ive been brought up and i want the same for my children until they start school

To be fair, in the 50s and 60s people were not claiming benefits to do so.
WSS!!

It's not that worthwhile for me to go back to work, as it means we have to run a second car as we both work shifts, and then there is childcare, but I still have to go back, to fill the gap between OH's wages and our bills.

Having a child and staying at home is not a right, and I know that sounds harsh, but its very true, but because the government do assist families in the way they do, people seem to feel because it is there they must take it. I know there are people here who wouldn't gain much financially by going back to work, but it doesn't mean we can all take that mentality and not go back, as then there would be nobody left to pay tax to fund it.

Ahhh come on ladies, i thought this was dying off and becoming somewhat amicable again :(

i've got no arguement with a sahm who's oh works for a living, i'm a sahm and i always intended that when me and oh had children i would stay home till they started school, i have a good career to go back to, i was a working full time single parent with a disabled child in tow. i did miss out and before me and oh decided to have children ourselves we took a small mortgage and did a house up and made sure we could manage on his wage. if he was to come out of work tomorrow i'm pregnant but if i wasnt i'd get a job in my career tomorrow.

what bugs me is two parents sat at home on there backside and still producing children and going out seeking what ever handout they can without paying a penny back into the system and have no intention of either of them getting a job.

i got the hip grant by 2days, and i get the sure start grant as well, i dont rely on it, but they'll both go to the baby and wont be spent on anything else but the baby

 Absolutely. It's the parents sitting on their asses popping out babies like nobodies business expecting tax payers to keep them that are really abusing the system. As I stated earlier, at the very least one person in the household should be working, but if that doesn't cover all your finances then it's better for both to go to work than the other to just claim benefits. You are cutting your potential household income as now it's being made that going back to work makes you better off.

Why do you have to wait till your kids are at school before you work?

Because all of the wages id make would go on the childcare cost it seems a no brainer to me to just look after them myself...if it helped us id defo go to work tho im not lazy:thumbup:

Also, for all of those using the excuse about 'having to wait till my kids are at school" It sounds a bit pathetic. So many inspiring women on this forum, that use their loaf ( as my dad used to say ) and get creative. Make cakes, make things from home e.t.c to keep the funds coming in. I could not sit on my ass for 4-5 years doing sod all. I would literally go crazy.

i will be going back to work once by 3 are at school:))

Thats lovely, so if this kind of thread pops up when you are in work and you see people stating they dont want to work and are happy to live of your taxes, will you still be using the word scum?

And that is why the beneft system is changing, so it encourages people like you, and makes it more worth your while to work than stay at home.

coutrygirl no one is calling you scum  hayley was just voicing her opinion as you were doing yourself. i think its a little unfair to say she was practically name calling you when she said nothing what so ever to do with you personally. :nope:

Not to any one in particular just the whole thread.
