child benifits UK girls....not good news

There was a job in my village the other day and 1500 applied for it...Theres not even that many people IN my village!

that's what its like here. i have a few friends looking for jobs and over xmas vacanies came up at the local shopping centre,,, 0 hour temp contracts for 4-8 weeks.. more than 600 people applied for 4 positions at one of the shops.. all minimum wage and crazy hours (they did shopping till midnight) so not everyone is fussy!

I mentioned the jobs earlier. And the lack of them here. Theres 1 here. And if you go to jobs centre and type in my post code theres none!

local one had 1 advertised on it. Its very much favourable to be foreign here.

I'm pretty sure the 500 surestart grant is still going to be available to people who receive high tax credits and are on the first child? so you can still get it for your first baby, sorry if thats all ready been mentioned I'm not reading through 16 pages to find out, anyway i think its a good idea that its been scrapped! Imo people who dont really need it got it, we did and we could have easily been able to afford the kids with out it its no big loss to me that i wont be getting it this time round, why should the government hand out free money to people for having babies? its madness! i know some people are in a situation where they have no choice but to need help and thats fair enough but theres probably twice as many people who think they can get everything in life for free and when you have children that isnt the way life is going to be maybe the government need to stop think more about WHO they hand money out too rather than stopping things some people need theres plenty of unemployed mums and dads who are fit and healthy that have no reason for not working that sit on there arses all day sponging thinking of excuses! i dont work because i choose not to work, my husband doesn't earn alot of money and he does probably one of the most dangerous jobs in the country hes in the military, but i dont sit around complaining about being skint because its my choice not to work and i dont moan when i cant get benefits despite the fact that my husband puts his life on the line for this country and theres losers that sit at home on there arses that rake in twice as much as he does in benefits!

IN the jobs centre they expect you to travel hours a day,. I travelled near 50 mile a day once to a job, was my training but I had to do it and it cost me so much to do that. I didnt have a car and still dont. I know so many looking jobs, my friend was on jsa for 2 years and in job placements on some deal to see and she has a job now she was temp now permanent and certainly isnt letting go of it. papers are empty here now of jobs. You cant expect everyone to bother even applying for a job they arnt qualified for like the account technician job here.

But thats the thing, there is work available, it just depends on what area you live in. The way people carry on its like there is no work at all

I heard the best excuses last week on another baby forum. Because of the nursery workers who were jailed recently shown on the news, this was good enough excuse not to work and put baby in nursery.

Couldn't believe it:dohh:

I do sort of agree...
Although i don't like the thought of my child away all day at nursery, and if any thing was to happen she wouldn't be able to tell me, even something small and nothing big like that ^^ but still...
I understand that people have to put there children to private nursery in order to work though.

are you saying that I am lying because it feels like that ?:( I am not looking for work I have a job, mummy but I look for my friends and family and theres sometihng like thousands applying for like 1 job at a time here. My own lay about bro has been on the dole for years we look for him all the time and theres sometimes one or two but never get back to many applying.

Wow, reading some of your comments... I am shocked.
Jealous much?
I'm saying this as a US citizen BTW.
Girls in the UK got this grant because the government provided it to them, being a country that helps their citizens. It helped so many girls out taking care of their babies, and that's good. good for them.
Girls in the US didn't get it because, well, the USA just doesn't help the ones in need. You live with the money you have. That sucks, but that's what we have.
That is what our country gives us. Deal with it.
Someone said they're happy that the grant is being cut off. Why? Is it so hard for you to see people getting help?
We live in two very different countries, there's not room for comparison at all.

UK girls, sorry your grant is being cut off, I would have loved getting something such as this.

What makes you think that? Correct me if im wrong, but havent you and i indulged in this particular discussion before about availability of work depending on what area you come from?

If i wanted to call you a liar, id come right out with it and challenge your viewpoint

People do carry on like there is no work at all, you see it in the newspapers day in day out, there is work ... it just depends on what part of the country you are in, but because there is no work in some areas, it becomes a blanket statement for the whole country.

oh no I just meant theres no work in my area, not the whole country. Why so many also leave here. I cant remember yesterday never mind a conversation :blush: I remember when i was a teen applying for loads and loads! was such a choice then. My dad is looking a job he retired but wants something to do and he cant get anything 33 years of working in this country he is.

the sure start maternity grant is avalible to EVERYONE up until april 5th which is the end of the tax year i think...

and im with the ladies on this 1...we should pay our own way for the children fair enuff..but low income familys its abit hard to do and the £500 helped out alot and could get most of the things you need with it

as for OUR country been in so much debt ...the bankers still manage to get their bonuses(in a resession)
the mps done the country out of millions claiming for fu**ing light bulbs gardeners etc..

and to be quite frank we have enuff illigal imigrants in the country and polish in the country which work for less than minimum wage so people are employing these putting normal hard working people out of jobs just so the work place save on a couple of £££

£500 to an mp or bankers isnt alot but to a single parent of low income family its a huge amount of money

i think before saying that low income familys should support their own children and shouldnt have the £500 personally your the people that arnt allowed to claim it

and for claiming the money the country needs of pregnant women is vile they need to claim back all the money the mps took and the bankers are still taking that would go part of the way to paying back the debt..
i dont see david cameron taking some money off his salery

^ Actually, he did! He cut ALL of his MPs pay packets this year.

And before people say "yeah but they earn a fortune" thats because they do a difficult job. They earn more for a reason, and they had THOUSANDS taken off their annual pay.

Sorry, i just tapped away at that, went off to the kitchen and realised that probably sounded a little snappy  ... im just busying trying to sort a little problem out ;)

I remember you saying before about how there just is no work, and for that, you'd expect the benefeit rate to be higher in area's like yours, but then you get an area like mine, over 200+ jobs available the the benefeit rate is rising, not increasing, its crazy.

Here, we'll get 3 or 4 apply for a vacancy and thats it , i had some young lad randomly drop me his CV in during the week, it was the first one ive had for months.

Personally, i think that if you WANT to work, but there is none near you - then move.

My work ethic is that i will travel for miles into the city, or into others towns to go to work. If there are none in a certain distance to me, i will move closer to where there IS work. If i were to work in london it would cost me £1700 a year train fair ALONE. Id still do it, because there are better jobs and better salaries there.

No point saying "well there's nothing here, lets claim!" when you'd be better off working in a different town.

did he cut the bankers bonuses aswell if the country is in that much of a debt that would of been stopped months ago?

He doesnt control bankers bonuses. The banks do... its a massive spider web of micro-management which allows them all to be awarded bonuses from within. But the banks are being regulated now - there is only so much he can do. As for the expenses claims - they were LEGAL then. The labour party allowed this big black hole to happen, which spiralled out of control. Most of the claims were genuine, there were a percentage that were not.

Now that is illegal and is regulated. They cant fix everything all in one go!

UK is in billions of debt... its all areas that have overspent, not just some.

so because theres no work in an area you expect folk to pack up and move their whole life and family just for a job..so uprouting kids from schools from their home they have known ? talk about having your kids interests at heart

Yeaah I suppose...very difficult job, specially the mess our countries in.
Although look at all the people working in the emergency services, saving and risking lifes, and there wages is nothing compared to a MPs!
